So nice of you that you are able to think as a human, not a nationality. It´s the same in every country. We raise with the propaganda of fatherland and mother tongue to build emotional family links to our nation. We start to be proud on shit we didn´t do and hate people we never met. It has nothing to do with drugs. He is comparing the worth of humans compared to their skin color or even religion. Like he said 5 Americans are 10 times more worth than 1 million Africans. A dead Afghan is worth 200 bucks. How much worth has the live of a black Afghan?

He said the Companies who bought Bush's presidency did not want to give their patents away. That's why Bush said this. So it's not about the USA or their Government. Its just about the Pharma Companies from the US who have like all over the world extreme influence in politics ;)
Pharma companies in the USA are FAR bigger in their influence than elsewhere, because "health" is something TO MAKE MONEY ... BIG MONEY! Elsewhere the prices are capped, thus limiting the profits, but not in the USA ... where simple stuff like Insulin costs hundreds of $$$.

About the discussion in the middle; the WorldTradeOrganization is so powerful, countries have to accept their ‚interpretation‘ of patent rights and they can exclude any country from world trade if the country does not accept their interpretation dominance on what inventions are based on what foregoing inventions and so on.
This way the ‚west‘ ensures their technological and economic dominance by simply extorting other countries by threat of embargos(aka ‚sanctions‘) and threat of not extending their interest rate payback deadlines.
In detail: nearly every new invention is based on an older invention or knowledge, making research and industry in third world countries useless and unprofitable.

7:24 No, according to Pispers South Africa had everything they needed but you guys owned the license to the drugs aka an American company developed it so they owned the license and are the only one's to produce and sell it because otherwise why would you invest exorbitant amounts of money into research and development of new medicines if everyone else can just copy it and make money without investing a penny.
And in general that's a good thing since otherwise we wouldn't have any research and development but there should be limits to it so that things like with insulin don't happen were the production costs are around $1/dose while you pay hundreds of dollars a dose when buying it.
Yes, in general patents and licensing are a good thing… the main goal of pharmaceutical companies should be developing and producing medicine and treatments to save peoples lives not to get filthy rich and let people die who can’t afford it.
Only in the US the price for insulin is so ridiculously high. It’s generally 10 times higher than in other (developed) countries, because they have those limits on prices of insuline (and other medicine). In the US the government could do the same if they hadn’t been bought by those companies.

About the medicine: It's basically a Copyright by the Company that invented it. To copy the formula would be stealing and illegal therefore they asked for the permission to use the formula and were denied. Reprehensible.
