I think they changed it, because I said "I can't do this" once and it literally told me there's a checkpoint in the lobby to the boss, or maybe it was referring to the forlornness one
noice, the maze part helped me so much! I got lucky and got the bad ending after the good one on my 2nd try :3 (Doing good ending first makes you get no checkpoints when you go for the bad ending, so you have to do that in one go which includes the first game part)

i died and my screen went all black so i alt-f4ed to go to the lobby and the checkpoint wasnt there

The chase in the sewer is random, just follow where it lead you.
For the maze, idk is it random or not but I go with the same way and still pass it.
