  • The Joie Spin 360 is a swivel ISOfix car seat that can be used rear facing from birth to 18kg. In this video I explain how to install the Spin 360, as well as how to adjust the harness and how to use the newborn insert.
    If you only came here to find out how to adjust the harness and strap your little one in, you can go straight to 3.37. And if you would like to know how to use the newborn insert and wedge, this information can be found from 5.24 onwards.

    Great video and very informative I had one of these spin 360s for my son when he was born 4 years ago it worked well for a few months and me and Mrs took my son out and we put him in his seat we heard the click when turned the seat soon as I moved off and went round a round about the swivel lock unlocked itself and the seat spun all the way round and not locking which left me losing confidence in the design and resulted going back to a traditional baby car seat

    Fab video thank you😊 My little boy is 9 & a half months. We are currently using the stage 3 wedge in the seat I know it’s recommended around 15 months taking it out but at nearly 10 months old he’s basically sitting on top of the seat with the wedge and looks so uncomfortable the straps also don’t sit next to his neck properly. With wedge taken out he sits more in the seat properly now but is this safe for the wedge to be out at his age?

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally. All babies are different sizes, the age given is just a guide, but you can remove the wedge when it no longer looks comfortable.

    Fits perfectly rear-facing in our truck, which has a slightly smaller back seats. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx6_FKRYB2ClSPRyjcd8HptiCS3EiQoNX4 Feels as comfy and plush as our Graco Contender carseat

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  ปีที่แล้ว

      This car seat goes up to 18kg or about 105cm, which is around four years. Children need to be in a car seat til they're at least 135cm, ideally 150cm. So whilst this is a great car seat for the first four years, it doesn't 'have it all'. You will need a high back booster, or ideally a longer lasting rear facing seat and followed by a high back booster at the age of about six.

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use any recline position that is comfortable. It is generally better to make the seat more upright the heavier the child gets, but this seat has no set rules about which position should be used and which size or weight.

    How do you loosen the straps? Can’t find it on our seat as the straps are digging in my daughters arms and there not over her shoulders properly x

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a slit in the cover just above the adjuster strap. Put your finger in there and you'll feel a smooth flat metal button. Push the far end of that button down and hold it while you pull the straps. Only pull the straps, not the pads.
      Before you tighten the staps you need to put them on her shoulders so that they're touching the side of her neck. Then pull the chest straps up through the buckle to remove the slack from the straps on her hips, and pull tight. The straps should be as parallel as possible, if they're very v-shaped the straps are too low on the arms.

      At 13 months she is unlikely to need any inserts unless she is very small for her age, in which case you may want to leave the wedge in for a bit longer. But the head and body support should come out now.

      Just pinch the grey buttons on either side of the block at the bottom to adjust the length. It needs to be firmly in contact with the floor, but not over extended, the seat's base needs to be flat on the vehicle seat.

    • @RearFacingToddlers

      By rail, do you mean the support leg? The leg on Joie's seats does drop down very easily and that can make the installation a bit tricky. But if you retract it all the way up and then rest it lightly on the floor without over extending it, you should be able to click the ISOfix arms into place.

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that can happen with this seat, especially if the ISOfix points aren't very deep. And long as you have closed the gap as I explain from 1.30 onwards, some movement is fine.

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a slit in the cover just above the adjuster strap. If you put your finger in there you will feel a flat piece of metal. Push that down and hold it while you pull the straps down with the other hand. You only pull the straps themselves, not the pads, these are attached to the seat and won't move, so you're basically pully the straps through the pads. It's best to grab both straps in one hand and pull them down together so that their length stays even.

    Hi i travel a lot and heard a flat car seat is best for baby as the others can cause lung problems for the baby. Im confused if this car seat is flat and is good for babies travelling for 3+ hours. Thanks

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The safest way for a baby to travel is as upright as possible in a rear facing car seat, with just enough recline to keep the head up and the airways open. A recline ange of 45 degrees is upright enough to protect the baby in a crash and reclined enough to stop the head from falling forward. There are a few lie-flat car seats available, but they are still not completely horizontal as this would not be safe for the baby's neck, nor would they fit well behind the front seat.
      The maximum amount of time that anyone, babies, children and adults, should be in a car without a break is two hours. A 15 minute break is enough, and during this break you should get the baby out of the car seat. If you take two hourly breaks a healthy baby is perfectly safe in a regular car seat.
      A 45 degree rear facing car seat does not cause lung or breathing problems in healthy babies, and there is no need for a lie-flat seat unless the baby has medical issues.

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The car seat in this video has a newborn insert which gives the backrest the safe 45 degree angle. For older babies and toddlers this insert is removed which makes the seat more upright.

  • @courtneystansfield8859
    @courtneystansfield8859 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can I ask, my son if he is forward facing can push his feet against the front seat and tilt his seat back lifting the isofix leg up. Is this normal?? Or is the isofix not fitted properly

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds like something that would be possible with this seat, yes, but if he can push that hard then the front seat is definitely too close to him and that's not safe in a crash.
      I highly recommend that you don't use this seat forward facing though. Its rear facing limit is the same as forward, and rear facing is much safer.

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ISOfix car seats will wobble a bit in some cars depending on how deep the ISOfix points are, the further forward the more movement there will be in the seat. This is normal and nothing to worry about.

    When my baby has the wedge in he seems far too outwards and just doesn’t seem comfortable at all. He’s 6 weeks old and is the length of his auntie who is 8 months old. Do I still need to use the wedge ? Just doesn’t look like he’s sitting right at all when it’s in :/ and makes it so hard to put click his straps in

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The wedge gives the seat a better recline angle which a young baby (no matter how big) will still need as they can't lift their head up for long periods of time yet. Being too upright can affect their breathing. I do know what you mean though, the insert can be quite difficult to get right when the baby gets bigger. Try to keep it in for at least five to six months if you can when he will have better head control.

    As a former professional installer of child restraints this video is very good. So great to see a video with adequate information and clear demonstration and good advice. If you're wondering how tight "very tight" is for 5 point harnesses : place two fingers together flat on the child's shoulder top beneath the strap pads along side the head. If you can roll them up vertically with the harness locked then it's still too loose. So basically you want one finger's worth of wiggle room across the circumference of the shoulder but no more. This will allow enough space for comfort and breathing room but they won't be able to to slip the harness during driving or a collision . Most people always have the straps too loose for fear of hurting the child. However if you start them off like this they'll never complain that it's too tight. This method will work every time and was instructed to me direct from the big name manufacturers . Hope that helps anyone who's interested.

      Hi,
      I never ever use those things. They are supplied with all ISOfix seats, in case the ISOfix points are deep and hard to get to. But I have found that when they are so hard to reach that you need these guides, the guides themselves are also really hard to fit. With the guides in place you can't push the seat/base in as far as you can when they're not used, so the seat always wobbles a bit more. I would just put them in the bin.

      Have you closed the gap between the base of the car seat and the car's backrest? You can see how to do this from 1:30 onwards. The front of the base needs to rest on the front edge of the vehicle seat. If the leg is too long the base will be too high and this car also cause the seat to wobble.

    My baby is only 10 months and he’s already getting too big for rear facing, his legs are crammed and he looks uncomfortable! Do we start using forward facing as I thought by law we have to use rear facing for children up 2/3 years

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  ปีที่แล้ว

      Infant car seats last up to roughly 15 months (75-85cm/13kg). After that there are seats up to about four (105cm/18kg) or up to six years old (125cm/25kg). These seats are designed to fit children up to those weights and heights comfortably. As they get bigger they will need to bend or cross their legs. This may look uncomfortable to us, but children do not find it uncomfortable, nor is it unsafe.
      By law children can face forward from either 9kg in an R44 seat or 15 months in an R129 seat. However, these minimums are far too low and forward facing before the age of four carries a much greater risk of injury in a crash. The safest thing to do is to get a rear facing seat with the highest limits and use it until the child no longer fits, usually around six years old.

    Please can you help!
    My little one is 8 month old and I was told to remove the wedge as he’s too big for it so I did but when he falls asleep his neck drops down so I don’t think it’s safe.
    My only problem is when he’s in the wedge I can’t get the straps tight enough on his shoulders but they are really tight round his legs, what am I doing wrong 😩

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think eight months is still quite young to remove the wedge, the head and body inserts should be out now, but not the wedge. Is he big for his age? Could you maybe send me a couple of pictures on my FB page? facebook.com/RearFacingToddlers/

    We brought this car seat yesterday for our new born who is 2 weeks old and roughly 7/8lb when we put her in the seat today her head didn't reach the head rest even with it fully lowered and her head flopped forwards a few times while driving and I had to sit in the back to make sure her head wasn't forwards, any tips to avoid this ?

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The top of the insert, behind the baby's neck, has a bit of a ledge to allow the head to tilt back a little and keep the airways open. I have never seen such a tiny baby in this seat, but I can visualise what you're describing. It's not something I have come across before. Is she pulled all the way down to the buckle? It may be worth sending Joie customer service a few pictures, they must have come across this before.

    Hi, does anyone know how to loosen the straps? I just cant work it out! 😫

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a slit in the cover just above the adjuster strap. Put your finger in there and you'll feel a smooth flat metal button. Push the far end of that button down and hold it while you pull the straps. Only pull the straps, not the pads.

    Is it normal for it to be a bit wobbly? I've adjusted the isofix tight and the leg is right but the car seat wobbles

    • @RearFacingToddlers

      Yes, this car seat will never be 100% solid, and that's normal for this seat.

    I have read to use the grey button to provide more legroom, is this false? Must the gap always be closed even for a toddler? Thanks.

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi,
      You are allowed to open that gap for more legroom, in a crash the ISOfix arms will instantly retract to close that gap before the seat can tip forward. But... in some cars the gap doesn't stay open and will close as the car moves. So because of that Joie now advise closing the gap in all cars.

    Hi, if you fit this to the front passenger seat which does not have isofix, how do you secure it in place? thanks

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That can't be done. ISOfix seats cannot be belt fitted, so if you do not have ISOfix in the front seat (most cars don't) this seat can only go in the back.

  • @jordanfarrell6989

    Hi please could you tell me if this car seat is suitable for a van? My van seats don’t seem to have the metal clips under the seats to attach the car seat into

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  ปีที่แล้ว

      In that case you will need a belt fitted seat. This is an ISOfix seat and can only be installed in cars/vans that have ISOfix points. The Joie Stages is a good belt fitted seat that fits well in the front seat of a van. rearfacingtoddlers.com/products/joie-stages

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi,
      Are you pulling the straps down? The chest pads are attached to the seat, so you need to pull just the straps, not the pads. Press the button down with one hand and then pull both straps at the same time with the other.

    There appears to be two plastic parts that look as though they go 8t o the isofix settings. Is this correct?

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, they are ISOfix guides for cars where the points are deep down in the upholstery. They are hardly ever needed, I think I’ve only ever fitted them in two cars and I’ve been doing this for 11 years. So you can probably just throw them in the bin.

    All well and good. But how do you slacken the straps once you tighten them????

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  ปีที่แล้ว

      There’s a slit in the seat cover above the strap that you pull to tighten the harness straps. Put your finger in there and you will feel a flat button. Press and hold that and then pull the straps with the other hand to loosen the harness.

      No, this is an ISOfix car seat, it doesn't use the seat belt.

    It looks so uncomfortable, no leg room and the exposed poppers in their back.

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rear facing is not uncomfortable for children, their skeletons are far more flexible than ours.
      I'm not sure which poppers you mean, there are a couple at the sides, but they don't dig into their back. It's not something that anyone has ever had an issue with.

    Our 10 month old is in this just with the wedge in and her head is so far forward at the top what do we do

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The wedge has a little flat ledge at the top to tilt a small baby’s heat back and keep the airways open. I have never heard of it causing any issues for older babies, but maybe try taking it out? As long as the shoulder straps are not too high, you can take the wedge out to see if that’s any better.

  • @emzoneill6735

    • @RearFacingToddlers

      The buttons are at the side, they won't touch the baby's back.

    • @RearFacingToddlers
      @RearFacingToddlers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Possibly. A good way of knowing whether the wedge is still needed is to put her in the seat without the wedge and with the headrest on its lowest setting. If the straps are above her shoulders, the wedge needs to go back in.
