    The 80's and 90's were the best era for this parody comedies. The Naked Gun trilogy and the two Hot Shots films are some of my favorite as well as others from Leslie Nielsen. Funny thing is he started out his career as a serious actor but became well know for his comedies.

    Weird Al first came on the scene in 1979, with his parody of "My Sharona" ("My Bologna"). It was recorded in the bathroom at the college radio station he was working at. That song got airplay on a weekly radio show "The Dr. Demento Show" and set him up for discovery with his next release, a parody of "Another One Bites the Dust" ("Another One Rides the Bus"). This launched him to the next level, and when MTV came on the scene, he took it to yet another level parodying videos as well as the music. His next "hit" was "I Lost on Jeopardy!", a parody of the Greg Kihn Band's "Jeopardy." After that, it was parody hit after parody hit for him.
    If you ever have the opportunity to see him perform live, DO IT. I've seen many, many concerts thru the years, and he was one of the best, simply for the fun and the show. He comes out in the costumes from all the videos and all that stuff. So obviously there is time between his songs for costume changes. These spaces are filled with video clips of Al's influence thru pop culture thru the years. Definitely worth the price of admission.

    • @tylerfoster6267
      @tylerfoster6267 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I still think you should see him live, but I think he may have retired the costume stuff because he's getting up there.
      Since you like the ZAZ humor, if you haven't seen it, you should react to Weird Al's movie UHF (1989). Alternatively, you could do his 2022 biopic, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.

    This was the "sequel" to the one season (six episode) TV show POLICE SQUAD! from 1982. It was "too weird for tv".. the exec's hated it, it had no laugh track, and it was expensive because the gags required a lot of extra planning. But the show was (and still is) hilarious and became a hit on VHS rental and on cable tv so the Zucker Bros gave it another shot as a movie. The intro to the film is a joke about what Frank Drebbin has been up to since the show got cancelled (saving the world)

    Okay, you unlocked this achievement, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. You should now check out the sequels. Nothing could match the original - especially, if you like the atmosphere created in this film. However, they do get progressively funnier, at a slight expense of the story. If this film's storyline is at a 2 hour TV movie level, I'd say the sequels are somewhere between that, and a good sitcom.

    You are correct, Nancy Marchand would go on to play Livia Soprano.
    There are, of course, two more Naked Gun movies, but I also recommend the Hot Shots! movies if you haven't seen them, which are just Abrahams by himself without the Zuckers. If you want to get really obscure and weird, you can also see the one by Bill S. Preston himself, Alex Winter, who co-directed Freaked (1993) with Tom Stern. I would also say that Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (2007), Hot Rod (2007), and Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping (2016) are in this same tradition.
    When Nielsen passed away, there was a script for a fourth Naked Gun floating around. It was written by Alan Spencer, who made a Naked Gun-esque TV show called "Sledge Hammer!" back in the 1980s. I only read some reviews of the script, but it had some great jokes that I wish had been realized, like Frank Drebin having to stop narrating because the whole city can hear him, and a line about aging I think about all the time: "I can do everything I used to do, just slower and with more mistakes."

    Denmark here, I'm not quite a Nielsen myself, but my name is Frank (though not Drebin), and my mother's sister and that part of my Family are all Nielsen's. Leslie Nielsen's father was actually a police officer, or more correctly he was an immigrant from Denmark who joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. His brother became the Deputy Prime Minister of Canada for a few years in the 80's and his half-uncle was the Danish-American actor Jean Hersholt who twice was awarded an honorary Oscar and a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and in his honor the "Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award" is still a special Oscar named by the Oscar Academy.

      @@RyanCarrington .. Well, he liked having family members as extras in his movies, like his wife Barbaree Earl Nielsen and his two daughters Thea Nielsen Disney and Maura Nielsen Kaplan, who were all in Dracula: Dead and Loving It, Family Plan and Wrongfully Accused.
      As for this movie you noticed his little Danish Viking food joke, when he invite Priscilla Presley out for dinner, saying that he knows this out of the way place, that serve great Viking food, and when offered a Cuban cigar he said that he is "Dutch-Irish, my father was from Wales", deliberately switching the "Wales" part from his mother to his father in this joke. Because in real life his mother was from Wales.
      Btw, when Leslie died, ESPN published a hilarious obituary for the opera singer "Enrico Pallazzo" in his honor, that you can go google and look up.

      @@RyanCarrington That is awesome! I got to see Clerks 3 on his Inconvenience Tour last year. Although, it was only Kevin and I did not get a picture (except the one that I took with my phone) it was still an incredible experience. I’m so happy that you are that much of a fan. Even if you don’t do a reaction, you should definitely treat yourself with Clerks 3. I appreciate you taking the time to chat. Have a great day!

    It's a sad coincidence that this reaction is released two days after Priscilla Presley's daughter makes sad headlines.
