I honestly think he was scared of getting exposed. He never faced real completion. Even when he went to Hillcrest, he was older than the playing field and he was held back which gave him an advantage. They probably thought if he went to college and didn’t dominate, his stock would drop but this isn’t the NFL draft where you can forgoe a year and train your body after two years of film. Not only did his stock drop as a result, it tanked and people surpassed him in that one year.

He’s still in good position. He may likely end up in the Greek First Division league after cooking in the Greek A2 league. This is the league that has powerhouse clubs like Panathonakos and Olympiocos. He never has to touch the NBA. He can play 10 years in Greece, France, Serbia,Italy,Turkey,Spain. Which are the top countries in Europe for basketball. If he buys into the concept of hooping abroad at a high level, he’ll easily clear $5 Mil after taxes in career earning at minimum. I’m a coach/lead trainer for an EYBL team. We have 5 star and 4 star dudes every year, some make it to the league and some don’t for various. No matter the stars. You’re not guaranteed a spot in the association and it’s about more than your playing ability. I’ve worked the NBA combine myself and been around all the execs. They focus more on your fitness, your work ethic, your parents behavior, your friends and affiliations than your jumpshot.
I also think us Americans have a wrapped view on basketball overseas and how high level it is and how paid many of those guys are. I personally know overseas guys who’ve banked more than NBA guys. Your average NBA player flames out in 4 years. I personally know 3 players like that from our program who’s career was 3 years and under and they all were 1st round guys. It’s guys from their draft class who never got drafted and never made a league roster but have made 600k a year after tax multiple seasons now. So they’ve made more that 1st round flame outs.
Jamaal Franklin former San Diego state Great and 2nd round pick who had a cup of coffee in the league but has been in China more than half a Decade has made more money playing basketball than the number 1 pick in his draft class has now.
Jamaal Franklin is pushing 15 million after taxes made in career Earning in China.
Mike James makes 3.5 million in Monaco
Shane Larkin makes 3.5 million in Turkey.
Hooping abroad for good money is still a shit load of success guys. And if the Saudi’s buy the EuroLeague like it’s rumored, it’s going to really be a success 😂😂😂💰💰💰💰💸💸💸💸💸

I really don't know how scouts be having jobs fr. The first time I seen him play I knew he was nowhere near as good as the hype claimed. It was extremely clear that he was just much bigger than the average kid his age in height and size. Didn'r have an off-hand (not that he needed it being so mich bigger and stronger than everyone), he couldn't really shoot either. Not very athletic his body shape was/is lowkey chubby so he not really working out or even hooping alot either. Young people who hoop alot or work hard don't be tend to be chubby like that. Even Zion in his teenage years had a very solid build but he didn't look chubby.

He clan play in the NBA. Worse case scenario he’s a Lance Stephenson for somebody. 6’7, strong. WILLING to play defense and do the little things. Can dribble and he can see the floor. Give him the opportunity Liangelo got and I bet an NBA team doesn’t cut him.
