As I am aging, I find stowing your equipment at the put in, driving truck to takeout and riding bike back. That way you avoid the biking workout when you may be tired. I've done this for many years starting with canoes. Good info again John. Always enjoy your videos!

Creek fishing by kayak is great! Relaxing and much better fishing (usually) than the more pressured spots!

Continue, professor you've earned your degree. Doctor John of rivers and Creek fishing. You have taught me a few things at 73. Just wish I could kayak, that's all. I used to do this when I was younger with a friend of mine he would drop me off at one Bridge then drive to the next one we did this till we ran out of bridges some of the best times I had in my life. We walked it could get in 10 to 20 miles. Pace for us was the key always stayed in that 5 minute window. Miss it! Good details John very informative. You are blessed and you are a blessing to us old folks.

Yes yes 🙌 thank you John a great explanation that anyone should adapt into their successful river float! I probably will always go with someone and let someone know the time the day how long I’m going to be gone and the expected time I will arrive home! Safety is not a joke and just like if you were fishing on a lake you should not take a river trip lightly as well! John I expect you to join me every time I go river fishing LOL! Goodness those are some scary scenarios wow! Tight lines take care and God bless!❤❤

Very informative video. It's nice to see how you map out your trips and how others do. After a few years I kind of take my mental checklist for granted until I've got some newbies with me. Also VERY IMPORTANT!!!! Always let someone know where you're going to fish and a change of plans if it happens that you switch spots.

Great information brother. Not a kayaker but thanks for the information. I have a Bass Raider and my son has a kayak sometimes I wish we could go more places together. Bass Raider and rapids don’t go together.

Good job on this information video!
I would say that all water temps below 70 degrees is dangerous if you cannot get out of it quickly. The outside air temps matter, as does what the person is wearing, but it doesn't take long to lose your dexterity in water below 70. Loss of dexterity can result in a longer time spent in that water.

The 140 rule! If the outside temp and water temp does not add up to over 140, you can be exposed to hyperthermia. Take extra precautions.

Great info! I think its also important to know about water levels. There are usually geographical or meteorological measuring stations on your waterway where you can get readings online!

waterdata.usgs.gov then type in your river or creek.

We have a place where the get out access is a path that leads up to the parking area. It's hard to see from the river. We hang a cloth or something on a tree we can see from the river. I always have a small extra paddle. I have a back pack I tie in the kayak. I have my lure cases velcroed to each other and to the kayak, under my seat. If I'm headed through rapids or not using a rod, I bungie them in. I always wear my PFD.

I do the same timing as you do, 1hr per mile to be safe on time. We have a local river we float, it's right under 5.5 miles, without fishing we done it in 4.5hrs (stopping to eat half way and swim), just riding the slow current and relaxing. I will say, I'm worried about seeing what it looks like this spring after Hurricane Helene hit us.
