I know the feeling man. I bought my 2017 Golf R. Started modding it slowly over the years. Loved every minute in the car. Ran a 10sec 1/4 mile at the drags. Go on trips. I am hooked for life. Enjoy your STI. It's a beautiful machine.
When you say you don't get it till you drive one is an understatement. Owning a STi was also a childhood dream. I remember I was walking to a friend's house and seen a hawlk eye. He reveed it to down shift and ever since I've been in love with the ej motor. Now when I'm out driving and I see some kids that want to hear my car, I'm the one that down shifts and let them hear the beautiful ej rumble. The reaction is priceless and it puts a big smile on my face too.
This sounds exactly like how I fell in love with the STI. I was at a gas station with my mom and two STI’s pulled in revving while pulling up to the pump. Then they both hammered it when they drove off and I knew one day I wanted to own one! I’ll never sell mine. My daughter is in 5th grade and says everytime I pick her up from school in it all the kids talk about how cool her car is. It’s an absolute pleasure to own this car
Honestly I've had thoughts about selling my 21' STI over the last 2 months due to appreciation but I always end up dismissing it after truly thinking about it. Theres legitimately no newer car out there like the STI. The aesthetics, the aftermarket support, the raw driving feel, the character, the ancient EJ, the community, the heritage, etc. Yeah there are solid options like the GR corolla, 400z, Supra, Civic SI, but those cars just dont appeal to me like the STI does. At this point im planning on paying off the STI and then consider buying another car while keeping it. Thats truly the only option at this point lol
I agree the sti is one of those cars that deserves a permanent place in my stable. Once mine is paid off I’d like a Supra or whatever else catches my eye in 5 years lol.
Same as me I bought mys last May 20, 2021. I love my STI Crystal white Pearl. Only have 3550 miles I don’t drive it as much since i have a company car. But it’s fun on back roads. I keeping mys in maybe buy a GTR 5 years
same bro. i just got my 21 STi with 1.8k miles around December, wanted to sell it for a m340i or a supra a month into buying it. I stuck with it and now it’s a car I wouldn’t ever want to sell.
Your reason #4 was so true for me. I had an ‘18 STI for 2 years …. Even stock it was one of the most fun and rewarding cars I’ve ever driven. I’m old and I’ve owned a ton of driver’s cars… this one truly was special. I miss mine but get my fix once in a while by driving my son’s STI.
Your channel has become my favorite car/subaru channel period. Down to earth opinion and attention to detail like no other. Keep up the good work and be safe on that long trip to WBM.
I’ve owned my ‘21 STi for 15k miles and about a year now. I love the raw driving feel, the sound of the Tomei/intake, the power is good, and it looks great. The wing makes me smile every time I see it in my rear view mirror. I hate the rattle trap of an interior that it has, how horrible the gas mileage is for a daily driver (ignore it for a fun vehicle, but mine is a daily) the stereo sucks, and the seats are super uncomfortable for someone with a bad back. All that being said, it’s a great car and I’m glad I got to experience it as it was one of my dream cars. With the current market, I ordered a new WRX and will be making a good chunk of money by trading the STi in. I’m hoping the WRX is 75-80% of the fun that the STi is, but in a more comfortable and efficient package. The cladding is also a bonus for me since it is going to be driven in upstate NY winters and on gravel roads. The STi is a fantastic car and I’d suggest that anyone thinking about owning one should do it.
Enjoy!!! Your build is awesome! My fav….along with many, is your headlight modification !!! I had an opportunity to get a brand new STI two year ago and passed…..I regret it!
I'm glad you didn't sell it. I said that you would regret selling it if you did. You definitely did the right thing. It's my favorite car and mine is stage 3+ now. Thumbs up bro!
It was a pleasure meeting you today! I stopped by with my girlfriend and we spoke about what time you had to get in and all that. Have a safe trip home!
Nailed it Ive dreamed of an STI as a bucketlist car Ive honestly been very analog and mechanically raw This car did it for me and now i couldnt actually enjoy other new cars! Infact ive been hunting for older 90's cars to update and fix up as its not the subaru! Its a serious "cult" car or family i should better say its really is a family!
Mind you the reason the STI happened was criteria was NEW for reliability as its my daily and wife has her daily taco So having out old highschool cars finally retired and being our project cars we couldnt be more relieved when we start our dailys up and the old project just kicked the bucket again!
Well said. I couldn’t agree more. I have driven and continue to drive various higher hp new tech vehicles in my line of work, that still cannot provide the level of driving engagement my STI does. There is a reason many people who own these cars do wish to switch platforms. After owning several turbo Subarus over the years, I don’t intend to go elsewhere. There are a lot of people who try to bash the platform and they are often the ones who have never owned them. These cars are a freakin blast to drive and own.
I've also been thinking about going to a G80 M3 in MT. Sure, the newer motors and performance cars are much quicker and more powerful. The STi is still so fun, engaging and raw. My car is a DD, it's only so fast you can go on a public road before going straight to jail lol. I won't be selling mine!
Totally agree man! I chose the STi over other options because of the aftermarket support combined with the Subaru community. Glad to hear you’re hanging onto yours. 👍
1 Reason why I still keep my STI that Subie Rumble. The ej25 is the only 4 cylinder that doesn't sound like a vacuum cleaner(force induction) or raspy buzzing deep drone(NA 4 cylinder).
I had a 18 STI that I had to get rid of because I wanted to buy a house, after I got my house it took me a year to recover from the purchase of my home (very expensive buy) lol None the less I was checking out Golf R Civic Type R even a F80 m3 to get back into the car scene, because I missed it when I had my STI. Well fast forward now I ended picking up my SW STI because the feeling of driving the car just so engaging compared to the other cars, which were really good probably better then the STI but just not as demanding as the STI. Enjoy your weekend at Wicked meet bro you're gonna have a blast specially just seeing all those crazy builds!
I’m 48 and my 15 sti is my daily and I love it. Price starting to go crazy over here in Australia. Thought about selling but yea I can’t do it I just know I will regret it
I agree with you a hundred percent, I have a 2003 legacy and I don't intend to sell it even if I decide to buy another vehicle, after you putting so much time money and work plus it's like a part of the family and the overall love that you had develop after waited for so long to get what you had desires even before you could have afford to get it, if you sell it I would really miss it myself lol
I got my car back in 2015 and it has been one of my dream cars and i absolutely love it! the aftermarket support is what keeped me very excited to own it. thanks to these awesome companies. makes me feel like im playing nfs underground in real life. but nonetheless awesome video wish i lived on that side haha so i could get the opportunity to check out the car in person.
Great car to keep, especially when they’re ALL going electric. Beautiful STI. If it’s paid off just keep it for years as a collector piece. It will be in 10 years for sure. Maybe 15 years lol.
As much as I love the car (and those wheels are amazing) I say don’t get attached to cars. It’s always fun to experience new cars. I never missed any of the cars I sold - part of the journey. The whole idea that you’re addressing it tells you they you’re ready to let her go :)
Too late! Haha but I get you. I’ve gotten attached to others in the past but for some reason this one tugs at my heart strings a bit more. Hoping to just keeping adding to the stable 👍🏻 And get your ass over here to review the STI!! 😂

I purchased my STI last year when I was single, now im married and about to have my first boy. And I also just recently blew my engine at 22k miles so thank god it was still under warranty.

I thought about selling mine due to the fear of getting ringland failure but other than that, I love the car. Wished I would have done stage 2 last year. I hit up Brentuning about getting an e-tune for my STI but they said they cant do it no more due to the fact that most all catted downpipes throw codes now due to that Cobb/EPA scenario. Sucks too that I have the grimmspeed downpipe already purchased and sitting at home never to be installed
Ringland or spun bearings is always a fear with these cars but honestly this is one of the few cars I’ve owned that I would want to rebuild time and time again.
I pass up on lost of side work for plumbing because my only car is my sti. Im 23 years on and the sti is a financial disaster.
