- As many of you may know, I have worked with my pals The Longest Johns for a number of years - and today is (I believe) the 10 YEAR anniversary of their wonderful song, Bones in the Ocean. I thought it only fitting to do a cover myself. Written by the one and only Dave Robinson, who is moving on to pastures new. Thank you, Dave. :)

Thank you everyone for all the lovely comments on this! ♥
I absolutely love this 🖤
It gives me goosebumps every time I hear it ...... 🏴☠️
You sing wonderfully, so I subscribed, only to find out you do very little singing. If brass is your primary love, so be it, but perhaps a bit more vocals?
If you are looking for material to stand out with, there are not many modern covers of old school filk. I recommend Dawson's Christian (there are a few old versions online) a space shanty/ghost story, Elfland, and Hymn of the Nightmare.
Hymn of the Nightmare might be particularly suited to your interpretation.
Coming from an unbiased opinion, I'd agree
I've never heard of his song or band before. But I had to look up the lyrics and listen to it again.
It made me think of my best friend from Junior High. I was the best man at his wedding. I moved away and lost touch. And I remember the phone call from a mutual friend that he had taken his own life. My best friend, and I wasn't there for him when he needed it.
Thank you for being my friend when no one else would be. I miss you man.
I have a few best friends that have been going along with me for years since I was in secondary school. I cannot imagine if anyone of them died. May your friend rest in peace and I wish you and the friend will meet again in another life.
I might be biased, but I think this is rather good
Adequate, even
You’re allowed to be biased when it’s that good.
October 10th
You’re not biased, this is an amazing cover of it.
Yes you are biased. This may be good but nothing can beat the longest John's
When I hear this, an Anglo-Irish sailor comes to mind who wants to sail the sea in search of interesting adventures and discover new lands.
I love how she never looks at the camera directly. It gives the impression that the character that she is portraying is so distressed by their guilt that they cannot focus on anything else, but loss.
On this Memorial Day a thought: absolutely beautiful.
Don't usually comment but have to say this is the best version I've ever heard. Very well done
We will all miss Dave. I wish him a prosperous future.
Beautiful and poignant, very much does the theme justice. The trumpets really suit the powerful rise of the discovery that we can carry on without our loved ones. Really appreciate the sorrowful little smile at 3:17, nice touch
The "AS THE" in the last verse hits like a 16 wheeler with the horns leading in. Great job.
Absolutely beautiful Lucy.❤ A great tribute to Dave & the song.
As a longtime fan of TLJ, brass instruments, and more recently your version of Haul Away Jo, I'm very glad youtube decided to suggest this to me the other day. A very lovely cover, adequate even.
I don't know why but this cover made me bawl my eyes out. Absoluteoy beautiful. Thank you for making this!
This is my absolute favorite sea shanty and you did it well! 👌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I lost some people I really care about this year. This is a great reminder that they would want me to keep moving forward.
Ooof that was breathtaking
I can neither confirm nor deny that I have this playing on loop through my entire workday. (oh who am I kidding, I am doing that)
Breathtaking. (I'm not crying, you're crying!)
That was beautiful! Dammit Lucy, why you make me cry.
Me too
This receives the Duck Man seal of approval :) absolutely love it Lucy 🦆
Coming back to this after nearly a year; it was exactly what I needed to hear today. Thanks, Lucy.
You have a beautiful voice!
November Tenth!
That was absolutely beautiful, Lucy and now my eyes may be a tiny bit wet ❤
What an ethereal-sounding cover! Well done!
This has to be one of the most beautiful covers I've ever heard. So good.
The most adequate thing. I wish we can get a version with the johns too! plus the doot obviously.
I have never liked and subscribed so fast after seeing a video. Well done.
Beautiful
This is awesome! This or something else would make a great entry to 'The Trumpeter's Multi-Track Competition'!
An incredible finish to an already wonderful song. It makes you a bit more committed to living. That's handy.
"I make sail for the Dawn till the Darkness is gone." ...and we start living again, even if damaged.
Oh wow, just stumbled upon this, thanks YT algorithm! That was absolutely gorgeous!
Wow. This was
really good.
I'm in love with this!!! Lucy, you're amazing!!!
Adequate beyond belief, definitely in my top 2 favourite versions ;)
Marvelous stuff, this will be on loop for days!
Absolutely amazing! I hope you collab more with TLJ, would love to hear your voice with JD, Andy and Robbie :)
Lucy has sung with the lads on a few live streams & her harmonies with them are amazing. Her voice blends beautifully.❤
Beautiful ❤ Thank you, Lucy!
Amazing. Thank you.
Hermoso, gracias por compartir.
This is breathtaking! So beautiful...
What a beautiful song and voice. The simplistic nature of the video only gives it so much more. Subscribed.
This is fantastic! You are so talented.
CHILLS ABSOLUTE CHILLS!

Just beautiful Lucy ❤
love how triumphant and hopeful it feels from 2:50 on, perfect word painting, even better than the original.
Amazing, just absolutely amazing.
the emotion is palpable
truly breathtaking delivery
Lucy this is so beautiful!! I love it so much ❤❤
This makes me want to plan my last adventure as a sailing trip that takes me around the world until I pass gripping the helm like my adventuring ancestors
Very melodic! I think Bones in the ocean is good to sing for every kind of voice. This is actually a good counterpart for Dave's bass. I Love it!
Absolutely the best cover of this song I have ever heard!
Great presentation and great everything!
This was absolutely lovely
Wow, just wow! Amazing!
this is one of my favorite songs by the Longest Johns, and you absolutely nailed it with this cover! 😁
❤
Love it!
Quite a beautiful cover. Thank you for sharing this.
I don't know if anything waits for us on the other side, but if there is heaven, I hope the first voice I hear is at least half as beautiful as this
You deserve more views and subscribers.

I think this is my favorite tlj cover ever, your voice is so majestic and your playing is phenomenal, you certainly did the song justice ❤❤
You have a beautiful voice and I hope you keep singing not for others but for yourself 😊
This is one of my favorite songs. I love this rendition, and I also love a French Horn!
Wait, the triumphant rise after "till the darkness has gone"? What? Had to listen to the verse 10 times. Amazing.
So I was just listening to the longest johns remix 2023 and the original of this song multiple times, comparing... Then I scrolled down and saw your version and went Ok, lets hear it. And... That was just plain good. Like, really nice. Adequate. Well done. I liked the brass, too.
amazing vocals!!!!
Stunningly beautiful....thank you so much.
Well done Lucy. Absolutely beautiful. It really also is a masterpiece...
it was beautiful!
Good job!!👍👍

Lucy, you have a timeless voice and you've made that song timeless. Well done! Well done indeed!
(By the way, I could smell the salt air!)
So much emotion in your voice i love it. ❤
A lovely rendition of a true classic. You should be proud of your work.
Magnificent. I am definitely subscribed after this. I look forward to everything ahead.
great singing and phrasing !! 😍
This is absolutely beautiful ❤ (And I’ve never been moved to comment on anything on youtube before now!)
Utterly beautiful Lucy. Thank you.
Gorgeous cover! ❤❤❤
100% beautiful. There’s true feeling here
So sirens do exist
I think I might have become a fan of yours
I listened to this a while ago when it came out but seeing you in the new community project required I come back
This is up there with Loreena McKennit's "Lady of Shalott" and Amy Sky's "I Will Take Care of You" for songs that go straight to my tear ducts. 😭
Beautiful, really nice arrangement and performance!
