    Im tired of people always criticizing Bose because of using treated paper drivers they defenetly have not done their research, because alot of super espensive $150,000 and up speakers if you look at their specs of driver material, they are using treated paper. And this is because out of all fancy materials out there treated paper its still the best to reproduce sound waves. So again stop the bashing and the hate. BOSE drivers are syncom computer tested for accurate reproducion of sound.

      Hilda Reveron I agree! I mean the klipsch la Scala has paper drivers and that monster of a speaker is well over 8k. I have the Boss 301’s series V and the bose acoustimass 5 series V and I have them paired to a nice amp synced together and man oh man I found my sweetness.

      Poly mineral is better than paper. Stillwater (Kicker) used them in their early subwoofers.

    The reason why Bose was so successful, is also because of their iconic design.. No matter what you think about Bose, they look just incredible good and like nothing else.. A Design win..

      Bose is a style and trendiness company, not an audiophile company. Steve Jobs was an idol to Amar Bose and Amar knew that to be successful he would have to sell style. Some of their most popular systems are called lifestyle for a reason. It's their brand images

    I have the "Ol' Skool" models made of wood or MDF and had them since the 90's, still playing stronger than ever, also got those 901's w eq and they're still doing their thing too without any problems. Funny how people complain about the sound or quality of Bose speakers, but I'll betcha you'll see more of them O.G. Bose still hanging around and beating out most of these "Johnny come lately's"

      Me too dude, in fact I've had mine since 1976, the bass definitely gets better as soon as they aged a little, not that I've heard these or even the series III OR 4, I too owned 901's to complement the 301's or vice-versa, 901's are the perfect partner for 301's adding the much needed mid sounds (although I loved the 301 sound alone, after buying 901's and adding them heaven was here lol) I had one of the first 4 pairs in Australia and finally let them go after starting a relationship and using her crappy midi system and pretty much shelving MY system for 9 years :( The things we give up for another HAHAHA they simply took up too much room in "the lounge" yech... didn't have one of those in my place, just an entertainment "sound room" lol (without an IDIOT BOX!) So goodonya Michael and cheers to the old skool. Actually they're chipboard and so were the 901's (unless they downgraded after the 80's) but maybe they did go to compressed paper instead of compressed oatmeal (when wet)

    Great review / breakdown.......I am a Definitive Speaker guy across the board. That said I picked up the Bose 301V for my garage / game room. Couldn't be happier. It doesn't matter where I am shooting stick or throwing darts on the other side....these speakers to me sound great!

    I have adored Bose since the first listen of my aunts Wave Radio at 9 years old (I am 35 now). I believe it was the very first model produced. It had the single Waveguide from one of the drivers. I will never forget how much the sound captivated me! That was the only piece of technology that launched an obsession with audio reproduction. My aunts Wave Radio didn’t have the CD player either. My parents were middle class without extra money to spend $500 on a radio but my mom got it for me on my 11th birthday via Bose’s finance plan. I actually got the Radio only to save money but I ended up trading it out for the CD one a couple months later and Bose didn’t even charge the higher price tag. I told them it was my Bday present so they said Happy Birthday from Bose! I still have the Wave and it still plays perfectly! I can say I owe my career as an engineer to the Waveguide technology. I lived in a tiny TX town so I was alone as a science nerd that sucked at sports but I loved it. My senior year I applied for a grant that get the big Wave system with the dedicated woofer and 7’ long waveguide in the size of a briefcase to use for my high school. The grant was for $2500 so I got every single accessory. I had yet to hear the audio until it was delivered. I set it up for testing in the auditorium for acoustics and used play props to build a 3 sided wall behind the Wave two legs angled. I played a CD with high end live recordings and sat in center of auditorium with eyes closed. The sound was mesmerizing and sounded like o was actually at a live performance. I also tested a custom CD-R of lice Russian Byzantine Chant (Russian Orthodox Church) and it brought tears to my eyes. Later I tried the 901’s, 301, 201, etc, etc. Today I collect vintage stereo speakers from eBay and I love it. It makes me sad that they are moving away from the classic way. I am not a fan of all of the smart stuff although the sound production is astounding and jaw dropping. True true true engineering. NO OTHER audio company comes to close. My dream is to buy some 901’s and refurbish and replace the driver cones and surrounds! Pray for me that I find them!

    Agreed from a non audiophile. If you want accuracy buy studio monitors or expensive audiophile-type speakers whose sound spectrum flatlines. If you want warmth buy Bose. I’ve tried audiophile-type speakers. For me they’re all to bright and I yearn for an EQ that will hinder the accuracy anyway. I find that I don’t really need an EQ with Bose. I’ll sacrifice expensive/accurate for warmth of Bose.

      studio monitors speakers just too boring to me, sound too flat,i used to own yamaha and M-Audio (forgot model,long time ago) Im not say bad sound,just say add eq slightly tune it.to me sound way better or close my taste . my opinion is you love listen music have many and better choice than studio monitors.if for produce music or maybe for test hifi gear sounds like.then studio monitors is your best tools. nowday too many brand make "studio monitors speaker".sometimes make me wonder how they know or sure that monitors speaker sound really 100% honest ,no coloring .sorry for bad english. different people different taste .sound hard to use words to describe. so always trust your own ears.

      I know I'm replying on an old comment, but I have to make the statement that most audiophiles would never purchase studio monitors for thier system. But I'm glad you like Bose. They get too much hate. Actually, my only critique of them is that they are a little bit over priced.

    Treated paper is found on speakers back in the 80s and 90s costing $250,000 and why, well because treated paper gives you more natural sound.

    Discontinue? What a shame. Bought a pair of series 3 back in the early 90's. 30 years later and they still rock. I loved them so much that I bought a pair of series 5. The four of them paired with a 100 WPC Yamaha receiver really sound good in my 30×40 garage. No matter where you stand you have good sound. It's amazing how they spread the music in that big of area. I don't think any other bookcase speaker could achieve that.

    The 8 inch cone bass of the bose 301 needs to be use as a midrange not a bass driver so avoid sending low frequencies to it , crossover your amp around 150 or 200hz its where they shine, and use a sub for deep bass reproduction. If you send deep bass to this speakers below this frequencies you will distort them. They where not made to reproduce bass ,driver acts like a huge 8 inch mid voice speaker. If use correctly they get crazy loud🤗🔊

    • @lennygrunin8531
      @lennygrunin8531 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you have to hook up this speakers through subwoofer high / low level input ? or how would you set this up so it would cut the frequencies to main speakers, i never though of doing that, but you made a good point ?

    • @hildareveron6858
      @hildareveron6858 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lennygrunin8531 It depends on your system set up. If your using this speakers for a complete surround system then set the crossover on the recivers set up menu to around 150hz or 200hz see wish frequency works better in your room acoustics. And set the crossover on the sub around 100HZ. Dont follow that THX 80HZ with this speakers. THX speakers are design completely different than this speakers. Its why they recomend you use that frequency. This Bose use a proprietary bipole/ dipole technology and are design and engineered completly different. Now if your running stereo sound yes do take advantage of the high level in-out crossover if your subwoofer has one. Run your speaker wires from the amp to the sub line in and line out to each speaker and set the crossover knob on the back of the sub crossover to around 100HZ . Leave phase at 0. Only change phase if you have 2 subs and are in oposite side of the room facing each other then set ones phase at 180 degrees and the other 0 degrees. So the bass frequencys dont cancel out.

    • @hildareveron6858
      @hildareveron6858 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lennygrunin8531 Remember this is not a Bass driver but a "mid bass"one so treat it as one. Cut off deep Bass frequencies below 150 and they will play lound and clean for u.🤗

    • @zeroch1ll150
      @zeroch1ll150 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are good down to 80hz as long as your not running at loud volumes, or bass heavy music. You will hear port noise at high volume.

    • @hildareveron6858
      @hildareveron6858 ปีที่แล้ว

      No 80hz is mid bass and that big driver they got works more in the upper midrange frequencies. So avoid 80hz, cutt anywhere between 120 hz 160hz send bass to adequate sub.

    The Bose 301 series II was probably the best of the lot. The cabinets were much better, mostly
    MDF or something similar. They were slighlty larger and heavier and the tweeters were in a FREE array
    so less nonsense between them. That said, they were a decent midfi speaker in their day. I remember comparing them to some Cerwin Vega, JBL, and dpPlus (house brand made by the Energy group using that early 90s polycell tweeter). And they held their own. For the MONEY, the cheaper db Plus 440s were the winners. They had more detail up top and were more efficient, 94db to be exact.
    The Bose definitely had a spacious room filling sound and were good for background listening, absolutely. And, let's be honest, most people listen to their music that way. Hence their popularity, they did a phenomenal job with that, better than most!
    But, for me, the db Plus 440s were better for my purposes. That was back in 1990. I still have the 440s doing duty in a study. Had them refoamed a couple of years ago. Still a very nice speaker for less than $200 a pair back in the day. A 6.5" two way with a one inch polycell tweeter. Decent detail, not the most, but certainly enough for the average person. And good bass to 50 hz or so in a package weighing 16 pounds.
    If you see some db plus on ebay, give them a try. Best bet is the larger db 880 which is a 10" two way! If you want more bass and wish to fill up a room!

    I’ve had the 301s, lived with it for many years, loved it while I had it (upgraded to a pair of 901s and a pair of Mirage OMD28s. In my honest opinion, I don’t think this reviewer listened to these speakers at all. Or if he has, then it wasn’t critical or he already had a pre-conceived notion around how they sound or what he was going to say about their sound.

    don't get the point, I mean, I know Bose's sound is quite 'synthetic' (let me use this term) because of their direct/reflecting system and the bass surplus, I owned a pair of 901 series VI in the past, then I replaced them with a couple of Celestion Ditton 3, getting a more detailed sound, especially for jazz or blues music. Now, I'm in doubt if it's worth to replace the (old, if not vintage) 3 way Celestion system driven by a Mission Cyrus II amplifier (in perfect shape) with the Bose 301 series V in a new larger room (about 40 square meters living room) or not. Could someone give me some hints? Today, I know, music is almost 'digital' and I plan to use the audio system for listen stream music, for movies, and sometime for gaming, but also for a good vinyl. These speakers are nice to sound good in a bookshelf, so saving space in the room avoiding pedestals, (and cables around) but will I miss details when play a vinyl? Thanks for who would reply.

    But sound and music is kind of a subjective thing. Just because it doesn’t sound good to you doesn’t mean it’s bad. I personally love 301s. I love how it sounds. Its well balanced and provides a wide soundstage just the way I like my speakers to sound. It’s perfect for my small room and also good for listening to music critically.

    This guys has no clue what hes talking about, i have this babys with the 161as surrounds in a Thx Dolby Atmos , DTS X 9.2 setup an sounds amazing my home theater sound like a ride at universal studios...This people dont know how to adjust sound for this speakers they are use to stereo high pitch tweeters screaming at you and listening to beethoven and Mozart clasical music, that you listen in stereo only. Any speaker regardless of brand name or cost, if not properly use will give you diminishing sound quality period. So let's just "STOP THE BOSE HATE" Please. THIS SPEKERS were design with live sound stage or home theater in mind so lets keep our stereo and surround music separated. Learn yours speaker limits adjust sound accordingly and you will have an awesome experience. Set crossover point on your receiver 80hz THX and let the subs take the rumble, its what they were made for. And dont ever push any speaker to its limits always leave some headroom.

    sense of sound is subjective and based on the individual just like finger prints...some products sound great and some don’t...it’s solely based on the individual person...as often as new products are introduced to the market, in my opinion, anybody who spends thousands of dollars on such is a damn fool...i just bought a pair of these on ebay for $100 and i have another pair that i bought on OFFERUP for $75...they are used for surrounds and rear surrounds...i rather enjoy what i’m listening to, which is the purpose of music, rather than simply trying to analyze the speaker...that’s the equivalent to watching an action movie with the captions on so you can read the dialect...if it works for some, great! if it doesn’t, that’s great as well...nothing works for all...folk kill me trying to make subjective perception into objective perception...nothing against the author of this video

    I dont agreed with you. If you crossover them corectly and control the amount o bass they will sound amazing and if you pair them with the bose 161 in a complete surround system they will amazed. I have them and running all with a top of the line marantz THX reciver 120 per channel and a velodyne sub and believe me when i say this ,people that come and hear my room set up cant believe what they are hearing , given they hear so much Bose hate and negativism from audiophiles. If you dont use this speakers as intended and blast amplification like crazy to the point of distortion , its not the speaker its your adjustments. And another thing. This speakers where design for home theater use with the 161s . Not for stereo classical bethoven or mozart audiophile music. Movie sound differs from music listening, so even do you can listen to stereo and still enjoy the sound i recomend them for 5.1 set up with the bose 161.

    Deaf people have become audiophiles. This guy probably hasn't auditioned the speakers. What a foul review. The Bose 301 Series V is an amazing speaker.

    The idea of direct/reflecting speakers can be good if implemented correctly. But, these, whilst superficially aesthetic (eye of the beholder) seem absolutely dreadful in build quality and probably sound. Looks like the old rotten/rotting foam surrounds on the mid/bass driver. Thanks 🙏
