I write character driven short stories. Within the first 20 minutes of this video, I was thinking about how someone like Lights Camera Jackson would make a great main character for a short story. I think I might actually follow through and write one.
"These characters look good in CG form, why isnt there a movie?" w...what? When I wanted a sonic movie as a 9 year old it was because I thought the action scenes from the games would be really fun and crazy to watch in a movie format. I thought shadow had a compelling story and character arch that reminded me of scifi animes I was watching at the time, I remember thinking "wow this is beautifully animated, feels like a movie" during the sonic unleashed opening cinematic. I thought the world they created was interesting and I wanted to know how it worked with humans and these weird animal creatures. Thats what 9 year old me thought, not "I like his design, why isnt there a movie? They translate into animation so well, where the movie?" He's truly one of those people that only sees the numbers and not the art at all. He can't explain anything past "I like it." "I never saw me or my friends break a tennis racket, therefore that doesnt happen" type stuff.
It's weird how I don't even need to see the movie to know his _Challengers_ review is bollocks. Too much praise and adulation will stunt your professional, and perhaps emotional, growth. People desperately need struggle to improve. People are claiming nepotism but I disagree. He did have what mainstream talent-spotters look for in a child performer: confidence and energy. And a child film reviewer does have a certain amount of novelty. But he became frozen in time and never developed any substance, a regular hazard of child stardom. His persona and style are reminiscent of 1980s variety show performance: always smile, keep up the energy, stay positive, never take the audience beyond the comfort zone of a church congregation, and in this, the age of edginess and authenticity, he comes across as an insipid relic of a thankfully long dead show biz culture. ⭐
I love Adam, but needing to find a justification for being mean-spirited is a bit dumb. Be mean-spirited or don’t, but don’t be self-righteous about it (not directed at Adam, just in general).
I really don't think this is that mean-spirited. Adum is critical of Jackson here, for sure, but critical =/= mean-spirited. I actually think the criticisms are all in good faith, and maybe this video will give Jackson a much-needed moment of self-reflection.
I get what you mean - at first I was wondering why Adum was crowing in delight so much over some sad guy who used to be famous as a kid - but the deeper it goes the more you see how clumsily manipulative he is. I guess Adum knows that being serious and supportive for psychological healing won't get through but a jab like this might hit home.
The slow motion thing is really annoying me more than anything else, it shows how worthless he as an adult crirtic and the disconnect he has at even trying to understand what he's watching. Slow mo in movies is usually used the emphasize how fast paced things are. In tennis you get to appreciate just how far and agile people are moving, so when they show normal speed again it's like "oh damn, I didnt relaize just how hard they landed but now I do. That's why nature docts use it so much, so you can appreciate the sheer power of the animals movements in a way that you simply can not in regular speed. LCJ is one of those people that would implode if you asked them "why" too many times. I wanna see him talk to Derek savage, honestly. I think they would kill eachother.
I dont think his parents are forcing him to do this. I do think they're funding it though. You're totally on point about not growing. There's nothing wrong with doing youtube since you were young. The problem is not growing, and the endless fakeness.
I genuinely think that the reason he got upset at Challengers' soundtrack is because it actually made him experience emotions and he feels like he got tricked or cheated or something
Him calling family movies "content" is so telling that he's still stuck in 2010. Who the hell thinks to themselves "I need something to distract my kid, let's go to the movie theatre"??

Bro not only didn’t watch the many dialogue scenes in challengers where the characters were mad at each other and didn’t smash their rackets, but as somebody who used to play tennis that is literally what competitive tennis players do when they get mad.

He reminds me of Jeff from Clarence.
I see it.
I was taking a piss with this in the BG and bro kinda sounds like Nick Fuentes with his weird enthusiasm.

This felt mean-spirited at first, but Adam justified it by the end
Mean spirited? This could not have been more tame to me
On cinema but real
He certainly has the expertise you need to be a great film critic.
5 corn 2 soda.
Hey guys
He's aping what a critic should act like.
God. I only heard of Lights Camera Jackson from Mega64 talking about him at some point. Bewildering to see him still doing it.
I dont think his parents are forcing him to do this. I do think they're funding it though. You're totally on point about not growing. There's nothing wrong with doing youtube since you were young. The problem is not growing, and the endless fakeness.
Also...he doesnt seem to like films that make him feel emotions. That says a lot about him.
1:15:51 Perfect touch of the vape smoke for the reaction.
I genuinely think that the reason he got upset at Challengers' soundtrack is because it actually made him experience emotions and he feels like he got tricked or cheated or something
Him calling family movies "content" is so telling that he's still stuck in 2010.
Who the hell thinks to themselves "I need something to distract my kid, let's go to the movie theatre"??
anyone who has young children thinks like that

Here with you (on a delay) and there hasn’t been one point in slow motion yet! He was right about the movie being unrealistic
1:06:50 Adum, I’m an atheist, but “faith-based” is honestly just as, if not more neutral, than “religious”. I know you probably don’t mean it that seriously, but it’s still a weird hangup.

@@Varooooooom I think the person is trying to imply that saying "faith based" is somehow more Mormon than saying "religious." I'm not from Utah, but it sounds like nonsense to me.
@@Abcdefg-tf7cu No, I'm saying that fundie communities use 'faith-based' as a signifier for 'propaganda' and 'family friendly' as 'no gay people or progressive messages'. It's insidious and widely practiced.

1:11:08 this is borderline experimental
Adum didn't say it, but this is the definition of an INDUSTRY PLANT
I don't know anything about tennis but I thought the point of the racket smash is to first show it causes the player to get a penalty and then the second smash is used to show that one of the characters may be throwing the game by using penalty to give his opponent a point?
Bro not only didn’t watch the many dialogue scenes in challengers where the characters were mad at each other and didn’t smash their rackets, but as somebody who used to play tennis that is literally what competitive tennis players do when they get mad.
His picks for the dvd bit were... interesting. Mostly inoffensive and family friendly with a couple token 'scarier' movies mixed in. Has he even heard of stuff like Junk Head or Mad God?
They seemed like they were just everything that was on a supermarket shelf. Even when he was older he was being gifted childrens films.
Mad God is such a dark and disturbing film. I'd go as far as to call it a tragic yet reasonable hate letter to humanity. I wouldn't recomend it to people going through a rough patch or sheltered people.
