    That story about the bank employee reminded me of my partner being told by his (now ex) boss: "when i was your age and a beginner i would stay up until 2am to figure out what i couldnt figure during my working hours and still get to work normally the next day. That's how you show passion" His reply: "oh so you're telling me that you are expecting me to work close to 80h/week without extra pay when working time is 38h with a max of 40h/week just so i can prove to you i like my job?".

      im so glad that that mentality is slowly being challenged and discarded; ive been treated the same and like everyone else i was afraid of being fired until i realized they needed me more then i needed them. unfortunetly to many people still fall for that fear mongering company knows all BS.

      I've been working extra due to covid and my college being online only. I personally don't like online learning. Feel like retaining the information is harder.
      But now that I'm working my minimum hours again some people at work are upset with me.
      Funny thing is. I don't need the job. The job is a convince for me. And I could have another in a day or two. So I just do my job now and go home. Why? Cause people are dicks to me.

      When I was a department manager I was putting in about an hour to an hour and a half overtime per day. I usually came in early so I'd leave around the regular knock-off time. My director once challenged me about "not putting in enough overtime, you should be an example to the rest of the department". I told him that if there was work to be done then I'd stay to do it but I wasn't going to sit around not doing anything if all the work was done. I also said that if he tried dumping work on me then I'd stop doing his work that I'd been doing for years (he knew what I was talking about). That was the only time overtime came up.

      If you have some kind of safety net then you can easily fight against that sorth of shit. If me losing my job means potentially starving and getting thrown on the street then the employ have all the power..and that WILL be used into making the work basically slave labor.
      If you however have a safety net to fall back on then they can't treat you like shit...because you will simply quit and so will everyone else.
      The people saying that "people will use it to get free stuff" are fucking morons. Yes, a few people will use the system for a few thousind bucks a month but that number is miniscule. People want to work as long as the work isn't a completly crapshoot.
      In Denmark we have a great safety net and I could easily earn enough for a living if I were to quit my job but it wont make me rich but it will keep me afloat untill I get a new job...meaning if my job abuse me...I can easily go "Nahh, fuck you!" and leave without a worry.

      Now that I am thinking of legal/illegal, is it legal to FORGET a kid that was sent to the principal’s office so that kid had to wait until someone to pass the doorway so they can ask to leave, because they were afraid to get in trouble again.

      @@raphaelagrace9891 I disagree for one reason alone. Specialized knowledge is priceless when you have millions upon millions of capital tied up in an industrial process. If OP decided he didn't want to deal with the a-hole middle manager and left, that company would have to spend a ton of money training someone new to replace him, and nothing will replace the years of experience and hands-on knowledge. When considered in this manner, an extra $7,800 a year ($150 a week * 52 weeks) is chump change.

    That first story reminded me of a comment I made reviewing a play for an acting class in college. A fellow student preformed a monologue from "The Last Days of Judas Iscariot"( the mother's opening monologue, in case someone wants to hear it), and she made me cry. When my teacher said he was going to direct a staged reading of that same play, I was hyped. I went to see it, and the actress playing the mother gave the opening speech; however, she made it sound like the opening statement in a cort case which to be fair is what the play is based around loosely. When I went back to class the teacher asked how I liked the play, and if I had any critics. I told him that I couldn't really believe that Judas' mother was sad that she lost her son, and that her acting seemed wooden. He proceeded to list all the plays she had done, and her experience with acting, and how dare I say she was wooden. I just shut my mouth for the rest of the class because clearly he was not going to listen to criticism.

    with the American company repackaging the Chinese product, if they were originally or said they were making it in the US, thats defiantly an issue. I don't mind paying a premium for "Australian Made", but if i found out something I was paying a premium for is just the cheaper, Chinese made product repackaged, I would be pissed.
    depending if there is anything in the contract about where the product is made it could be a massive legal problem too.
    If I was to sell a product and claim it was Australian made, but the people I bought it off were just 'drop shipping' it, I would be in deep shit unless I can prove that the other people deceived me, even then I may be in some trouble, not to mention the reputation damage.

      I believe that it is a loophole here in the US that very little has to be done in the US for it to be"US made" if it is from another country

      This is fraud, plain and simple. If the goods were sold as "made in the US" and also officially declared so you can get all kinds of problems. Depending on the goods it could also become an issue if they were shipped overseas. The EU and the US have preferential agreements for a whole lot of goods where you have reduced tariffs on importing them. If some European company was to import these "US goods" only for customs to find out they were actually Chinese they could end up being fined - which then of course may fall back on their seller who issued false documents, knowingly or not...

    Personally, for me as a manager that's the best thing that can happen to me: an employee who thinks, knows his stuff and who I can trust to do their work...

      The story of an old comic strip...
      The setting was an IBM (though they weren't named) office way back in the day when their logo and catchphrase was "Think."
      A manager walks into an employees office and sees the "Think" logo hanging on the wall.
      Manager takes it down and throws it in the trash and the employee ask "Why did you do that?"
      His reply was "You don't need to think now, we've got computer to do the thinking?"
      It's very old and I don't remember where I saw it, but I keep thinking of that when I hear stories like that.

      Workers dont leave bad jobs, they leave bad managers. You sound like a manager worth working for. I am training to take on a managerial position in my vocation. I have strong communication skills having been a former school teacher of many years experience. I am expecting (I won't say hoping, you will understand) my training will endow me with the rest of the skills needed to be a manager worth working for.

      my not paid to think story was short and sweet. i just said "OK I Quit" this was back in 99 when anyone who knew anything about cobol could have a job in literally the time it took to find a phone. I was on my way to a new contract within the hour.

    The one about the person sticking to exact business hours and then having their clients/collaborators adapt makes me so very happy for that person but also incredibly angry for my own situation. In the place I work, we regularly have to pick up the slack from clients getting us stuff late, all because our department head feels we need to bend over backwards in order to prevent people from seeking out rival companies, something that I feel that story disproves.

      Well, if you're in the US, and are being forced to work unpaid hours (overtime or otherwise) go to the labor board. Make sure you have some documentation of the issue first, though. If you can't prove it, nothing much will happen.

      @@OGSontar If someone is in the U.S. and a salaried employee, they are expected to work whatever hours are required and/or needed to get the job done. It's not considered overtime because being on salary comes with that understanding. It's not a strictly 40 hour a week position. Many store managers and assistant managers are paid salary so the owners and/or upper (regional or district) can exploit this.

      In my experience, salaried positions are a trap. They want all the unpaid overtime they can get, but always get pissy when you work shorter hours or take a day off to balance the scales. I've worked 5 different salaried positions in my life, and exactly one of them worked the way it should. That job was great; during seasonal changeovers I worked late at the beginning of the week, but my boss would always tell me on Thursday night to take a long weekend, or he'd take me out for lunch on Friday, order me a beer, and then tell me "It'd be a policy violation if I let you go back to work with booze in your system; you better go home early."
      But the other four that I worked, as well as the countless others I've known people in, have never been balanced. It's to the point now that the term "salaried position" leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and is a major turn-off in an interview.

      The only thing I'm wondering about that story is what country it was in, some countries are less protective of workers, OP mentioned they were sending things to the US, implying it isn't in the USA, thus not OSHA protected. That also said, I'd be looking for a New Job once it became clear that's what they were doing.

    10:09 I can't say for sure in Europe where the story took place, but as a salaried employee in the US you most certainly can be fired for not staying late and getting your work done. Salaried employees are paid to do a job, not paid by the hour. In theory this is supposed to mean that you leave when the work is done, regardless of whether that's more or less than 40 hours in a week. However, most employers just concentrate on the "more" part of that.

      At least in Germany, technically your work contract typically specifies that you owe a certain number of hours. That means that even poor quality of your work is no ground for termination. In fact, it's very difficult getting somebody fired in Germany and have that termination hold up in court. Similar in France I think...

      @@Lucas-zg1vz In the US, most states are "At Will Employment" which means that either you or your employer can terminate employment at any time for any reason. (There are exceptions to protect against discrimination but it's pretty easy to get around those). It's quite rare to have a contract in the US.

      In the UK it's a bit involved (the phrase "quarter to six" makes me think this is UK). Legally you're not meant to work more than 40 hours per week, but you can opt out of that, and most companies will hand you an opt out form with your job contract. Salaried employees are hired for a certain number of hours per week but often have a clause in there saying we're expected to work overtime according to business needs. In practise, if you're working your contracted hours, odds are you'll never need to find out if the law is on your side - and since OP apparently can get work done within those hours if the rest of the business gets their act together, I'd say they're pretty safe.

    The story about exact hours reminds me of a similar situation from a long time ago.
    I worked in a catering hall with 11 rooms. The whole place could hold around 6,000 people if all rooms were booked at capacity.
    November and December were crazy, 6 or 7 day weeks, 12+ hours a day. After New Years Eve the place was a ghost town for about 3-5 weeks, maybe 4-6 bookings a week.
    One day, a salary kitchen employee decided to leave an hour early. The next day the owner bitched him out yelling, among other things, "You're paid for 40 hours a week and I expect that!"
    The response was "Thanks, I'll remember that for Easter week, Secretaries week, Memorial day, Labor day, the 4th of July and the months of October, November and December."
    The owner never broached the subject again.

    The first story is probably true. The teachers are strict and literal thief. So every school has strict dress code and everyone has to wear a uniform, my school allowed hair lips and ribbons which were bought from out school store else it was confiscated. We would often see teachers wearing the clips and ribbons that they "confiscated" from us.

    So, forcing a student who suffered an accident during the trip to stay until the end (possibly worsening his condition, mind you) because you were too cheap to send him home early doesn't get you a lawsuit in India?

    I'm glad I live in a country where a student won't be punished for constructive criticism.
    After all, the school should prepare the child to become an adult - you know, a self-reliant person with a built-up character and an independent opinion.
    But what am I talking about, arranged marriages are still very frequent in India.

      Except the part where constructive criticism is punished...
      In this case...it's just bad teachers...
      Believe you me... I've had bad (someone who revealed something confidential to everyone on campus) and there are good ones too (the student therapist in our school).

      Most of the Indian people are very kind and hard-working.
      And trust me, I know this, because I used to work for a British company which used to have tons of Indian support.
      The problem is in the system and the establishment. If a moron is given a chunk of power, by law he must abuse it.

    My day:
    9am- Grab my coffee, get back into bed and listen to the new rSlash video.
    9:15am- Start to get a little sad that the new post is almost over.
    9:20am- Sad that the new one is over but still have hope because the video posted the day before is still somewhat new.
    9:40 am- repeat this process until I can no longer see a video I haven't played a thousand times.
    2:00pm- Go to work and and shuffle the 'All Videos" playlist for the next 8 hours.
    11pm- Go to sleep excited for the new r/slash video.

    5:16 what a terrible take. Just because you’re not well informed on something, doesn’t mean you should be exploited for it. That’s like saying, “I got overcharged to replace something on my car rather than having it fixed, but I didn’t do my due diligence to become a mechanic and figure it out myself so I guess good on them for exploiting me!”
    No! In these scenarios, ideally we want professionals to quote us for just what we need, even if we think we need more.

    3:24 sometimes I think some countries don't understand the fine lines between discipline and child abuse, this principle punished a kid after he got injured in a hotel ran on nepotism and didn't let them go home to heal and get patched because it "costs too much" I hope that principle gets reincarnated to lamb

    I was a over achieving mechanic at my bowling alley for a few years before covid
    Id take 3rd shift and the weekends cuz i wasent the senior mechanic, and i actually had a job for myself during the mornings and weekdays so it worked out
    As a mechanic i was incharge of
    -minor repairs/maintance
    -trouble shooting larger problems
    -cleaning and breakdowns
    I as a good over achiever
    Also -helped the porters with food on slow noghts (no league weekdays)
    -emptied the kitchen, bar, hall, mechanic and office trash
    -cleaned tables
    -did the laundry
    -hung and sorted decorations
    -swept and moped the floor
    And always stayed after we closed for 30 mins cleaning up so the manager/cashier and 1 porter didnt have to
    One night a year or so in, i had taken shit from everyone. But still had the famous workers smile going till the manager/cashier trys to get lippy with me
    "Where are you going?"
    Me: "home, why whats up?"
    "Well i dont know if you know how things work around here, but we stay after to clean up!"
    Me: "No I stay after and clean up, no other mechanic stays and cleans. No other mechanic makes there job harder for you guys out here. And if im haveing a bad day, i defenetly dont need more from you"
    "Well ill tell the owner"
    Me: *walks back to the counter grabs a paper and pen* "there show her that if you have the balls after you lie to her" (Wrote down my job title, mechanic. And the unpayed hours i dont get staying after)
    Never was bitched at again openly

    I'm Indian and from the school story, it was quite ballsy for the kid to even say what he said. Indian schools (in general of course) discourage talking back to teachers or remotely questioning their authority. There would be many such toxic stories if Indian students started sharing their stories on Reddit more often.

    When I use to live with my mom, I had to take an hour and a half long bus ride (two busses) to get from work to the town closest to her so I could get picked up (her "town" didn't have a bus service). Unfortunately, the busses were not exactly frequent, and there was a 4- hour window in the middle of the day where the bus didn't run. So, when I worked the morning shift at work, which ended at 10:45 am (off the floor at 10:15, and a half-hour to count my till), I would rush out to catch my first bus to get me to my second bus, which was the last bus before the four-hour break in service. I left two minutes early to catch the first bus and got written up for it. There was then an email sent out that "employees are to work from their scheduled start time (in my case 5:45 start, 15 minutes to count my till and then on the floor at 6 am) and not leave the store until the end of their shift. This did not go over well with everyone, especially those who had to bus.
    I started bring a book and my laptop, and when I missed my bus, I would hold up in the backroom, taking up space during the busiest time of the day until my second bus started to run again. My supervisors were annoyed but couldn't actually tell me to leave; my coworkers loved it because they would get me to go on coffee runs.
    Then the end of the month came.
    I (and others) would get to qork, count our tills and wait. Even if our till was counted fast and there was a huge line, we would wait until our exact floor time to log on.
    That new rule got changed fim " you can't leave" to "you can leave once you finish your work" pretty quickly after that

    OMG: I think I worked at the same bank as the 9 to 6 guy! We were told to be seated at our desks, pencils sharpened and ready to work at 8:30 sharp! We also had the same end of month/end of quarter cluster f**c. There were even desk checks (including purses) to be sure our filing was not only up to date but done in the same system as every one else. Some one complained about that and the company lawyers asked what they intended to do if they found alcohol, drugs or firearms in a purse. THAT practice was shut down. Once, I was in the hospital with pneumonia at quarter end and they were on the phone with me IN THE HOSPITAL to get info on my end of quarter reports! Yeah boss - I carry that info around in my brain just to vomit it up for you. Some people!

    I literally got yelled at by a boss for being 3 mins late. I have an office job that requires me to work late allot. I am 30 mins early nearly every day and stay late without pay allot. I was so pissed! All motivation disappeared.

"Sure, it will," they insisted. Nope. He was sent all over the world with the new 360 system. The 'floppy disk' weighed 35 pounds and I think it managed 12 mb. Cutting edge. The name of the magazine for IBM is simply "THINK". I should have read it more thoroughly in the 60's.

    My Father-In-Law only had about a 6th grade education, served in the Navy during WWII and ran a production line for a company that produced powdered "creamer" for many years until he retired. For many months after he retired the company still called him in to take care of problems with the production line despite many college trained engineers working there. He finally told them "No, I've shown you how to fix it. I'm retired." They finally stopped calling him.

    Once back in the 1990’s -I a -jewelry model maker (handcarves artistic renditions out of wax for casting) was told by my employer “A gorilla could do your job! It’s not hard-You should be going so much faster! These jobs shouldn’t take over a couple hours-some just an hour! “. I was prepared to hear him say this because he had previously said it to a former co worker but called us “Apes”that time. Ridiculous! FYI my job included practical engineering and geometry skills, the ability to draw, and the advanced ability to carve in 3 dimensions,plus the knowledge of proportions, balance and detailed engineering knowledge about stone proportions, stone strengths, wax to gold ratios, thickness requirements, setting styles,curvatures, shrinkages, moldings, etc etc. So I merely said “Well if a gorilla can do this-then you can do this one! Here is the easiest job in my box. You have an hour. Let’s see what you can do to help out.” He was shocked that I spoke to him that way but said, “Ok -Bet!” So he sat where I was and I moved over to the other spot which had less tools and I worked on and ignored him as he searched thru my hundreds of tools looking for the right ones. LOL! . (Picture the dental office tools-we use a lot of the same ones, same whirring from the flex shaft as well.) In an hour he stood up and said-Well I...guess you are right-it’s not as easy as just anyone can do it.”. He showed me the wax model-LOL! Imagine this-it was just a signet ring and supposed to have initials on the top-it not only looked melted and like it had been run over by a truck in a gravel lot but the whole thing was crooked and off kilter in all directions. It was too thick by far and would waste teice the gold needed. He said “At least it’s passable.” I said, “Are you kidding me? If we sent this down the customer would freak out-the salespeople would flip because of a lost commission and the jewelers who will set the stones and file and polish would refuse to even touch this- you haven’t even made openings for the stones! -It takes so much longer to drill thru metal than wax-this would slow their shop down-I mean you did better than I expected but now you better leave the carving to me-this GOrilLA.” He said “I’m sorry, you are right, take your time.” I tossed it in the trash heap and said “Hire me some help up here-look at these boxes. This job is a 6 hour carve-, this a 12, this is a 3 day carve, this is 6, 14, this another 3 day...Get me some help.” And I gestured to 10 times that amount of work as well... “Yes ma’am. I will.”. He left and did start advertising fir someone. He had to find someone all the way across the country to get to anyone near my level of expertise. The guy was pretty good too-not as artistically talented but really great at geometrics-better than me cuz I didn’t have time to be that overly fussy but he was also 3-6 times SLOWER than me, he also screwed up jobs on purpose after he stopped liking the salespeople/designers...He was a nutjob but with extreme OCD and he even caused personal problems with some staff, including calling child protective services to their homes. A REAL TROUBLE MAKER. Evil bastard. But he got some jobs done-eventually I was having to redo about half of his work however as he constantly maliciously screwed up things...I wound up quitting angry/mad -about 9 months later as he stole and presented and took credit for a design layout sheet I created and implemented and the employer believed him. I was so insulted and didn’t even contradict the jerk. I felt just looking at it the boss should have been able to tell that it was my work-me trying to help everyone and the whole system. But He was oblivious to this guy’s major faults-I kept putting up with the crap because I needed the help up there...And if he got fired there’s an avalanche of work back on me. I was so mad-so I gave 3 weeks notice I went independent and altho I almost starved until I could get enough clients eventually people I never heard of were calling me asking for designs. I am friends again with the employer-he’s not a bad guy at all-just was too busy then-The other wax guy went back to his home state-dunno the story there but I see him online still as our level of model making puts us in the top 10-15 in the country in this business. There are others in other industries who do great work too-the toy industry used to employ some. Much of this work has been taken over by CAD technology. CAD is great but still can’t do all I can do and honestly-it is slower as well.

    People who work unpaid overtime amaze me. I feel so bad, the company won't care how much you've done, you will always lose out and I hate seeing people lose. Don't let your employers take advantage of you, you have more power then you know

    I was working a very hard window manufacturing job. The warehouse always stayed a nice 100+degrees sometimes reaching 120+ in the summer. We worked 12 hour days from 7am to 7pm, 5 days a week, sometimes 6 depending on demand and demand was always high. I lived very close to an hours drive to and from work and when you add time to take a shower and eat dinner when you get home, and time to get ready for work in the morning I had no time at all on days I worked. One day I seen the line wasn't starting to shut down for clean up before 7pm so I figured there'd be no clean up so I kept working until 7pm...the line is still going full steam. By 7:15pm I was done and just stopped working and clocked out and went home. The next day my supervisor said
    "Did I see you clock out early yesterday and go home"
    Me :"Nope, I clocked out a little after 7 and went home"
    Supervisor "By law I can keep you up to an hour later than quitting time if need be"
    Me "Okay"
    Supervisor "you need to come to me before you clock out"
    Me "the only thing I'd come to you after 7pm is to let you know I am clocking out and going home"
    Supervisor *Surprised pikachu face*
    If they can't get it done in 12 hours then maybe they need to focus on hiring more people or something
    Ps. the plant ran 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

    I'm in India and our school was strict, but they weren't evil. In school trips they did everything to keep costs down but food was good and not stale and they did try everything best to keep us happy and safe. I think that OP's chool VP was just an evil person. Also if my school found some kid was sick during such a trip they would make sure they did everything to make that kid get well ASAP. Please don't think bad of Indian school or the staff because of 1 person.

    I do maintenance in a factory, and my favorite thing is when they call me and say "So and so just called, his machine is down" and then the operatorshows me exactly what it's doing/not doing. My least favorite thing is when they call and say "So and so called, and he needs his bla bla replaced." Sometimes, it is the bla bla, and other times it's the dur dur, and replacing the bla bla won't fix the machine.

      Nope, contract is usually to provide x number of widgets per time period for y dollars. Usually only audited suppliers have to provide from the audited facility. Food and drugs, for example, are from audited sites. Takata airbags… were not…

    Oh man the mr. Nitwit story reminds me of when my boss came in to check on what I was doing and I told him that I was researching a product that we're selling so that I could sell it more effectively. I'm in marketing and our sales team is not always knowledgeable so in most cases I'm the first line of knowledge that they have to sell a product. My boss literally told me that that wasn't necessary and that's not my job and that I have other things to do which completely flabbergasted me because if you want to sell a product it's sort of important to know how that product works and what makes it valuable to a customer LOL

    about the overtime showdown story: I kind of had a similar situation a while ago. except i was a part time trainee (traineeship is almost always a deal between a workplace and a school in my country, where the state founds part of the trainee's salary and emplyment costs if the school and workplace are in an agreement to split student and trainee time so that the student can get a field experience in its studies domain while still following classes) Companies are oblidged to pay their trainees only if their contracts is more than two months, so naturally they did a first contract of two months so to not pay me, and renevew it later. And the pay is low (lower than minimum wage), but it's still something nice to have.
    This traineeship went like this from november to june. I did my hours, did the best of i could with my abilities, didn't took any "cigarette pause" everyone was taking because I don't smoke, i barely took 15min of the hour long lunchbreak to eat my stuff, about a 2min pause per hour to make myself a cup of tea/coffee, and sometimes did some light overtime. Now, I have to say that it 's absolutelly illegal in my country for a trainee to produce any kind of valuable work for its employer, i shouldn't even make the coffee for people. I am able to just watch and take notes, at most do field exercices that do not represent any value to the employer. But i was absolutely being used as an employee, and frankly i didn't care because i needed the experience and it was a money intake anyways.
    However, two weeks before the end of contract, i had my shool's final exams, so my performance were a bit lower as I prepared for it and I had to leave the office exactly at the end of my shift the previous friday to go to an important appointment to my school, related to the exam. Everyone at the office was aware with weeks' notice. At the end of the crucial friday, an event happened that lead a coworker to yell-scold me like i was a child that bullied her son, pointing fingers at me, belittling, questioning what the "what the fuck you did all day", blahblahblah... I tried to reason with her and get her to calm down but she was mentally gone past that.
    That left taking the tramway shaking and wondering what on earth went wrong. It absolutely impacted me more than I would have wanted during my exam week. I tried to be diplomatic and message her about the issue, to understand what happened and give an apology because that's how I was raised, but all she did is "accept my apology" but without returning anything back, not even aknowledging that maybe - just maybe - her reaction was inappropriate and damaging, and instead telling me that it happened because "sometimes you just sound so arrogant". After that, i honestly stopped caring about it and focused on my exams. When i came back for my last week of traineeship, she acted like nothing happened, so i thought it was the end of the story...
    Then June 30th arrived, last day of my contract, I am supposed to have a chat with the two cofounders of the company as i leave them, kind of a report of how the traineeship went for me and them, advices for future me and so on.
    The first boss I chatted with - who was my actual traineeship advisor and the one competent in my skills, was total bliss of a boss. Very encouraging, gave me some advices for myself to improve and overall was very satisfied and very encouraging (he even told me i had gold in my hands and i should never let go of my career goals). This talk lasted for barely ten minutes and I was on cloud 9 after that. But then came the second boss. He wasn't my supervisor, wasn't skilled in any way in my expertise domain and we never got anything but normal boss - trainee discussions, so I thought he would basically just tell me good bye and I would pass the doors, right?
    Well, he spent more than an hour tearing me down, telling me how I didn't worked hard enough, how i was lucky to have this traineeship in this industry, how my attitude was trash... Complained how i was apparently going in and out "to the clock" and didn't put as many extra hours as them, ... And he mentioned that clash with my coworked. Apparently, the week i was gone, she went to him in tears, playing the "poor me what have I done I yelled at someone" and although she never told what happened, this boss guy though that this girl was such a kind angle that I absolutely must have done something really bad to her. He never asked her nor me what happened, because "at least you had the minimum decency of apologizing, but you clearly have issues with women!". He dumped all that crap with plenty other nitpickings and other studid stuff based on 10% reality 90% extrapolations or straight lies to make me feel horrible. During that hour long bashing, I tried to oppose what he said, but he would always cut me off saying "i am just telling you the truth, i am not arguing, you just take it and move on". He concluded on "these 8 months of traineeship could have been good, maybe i should have told you all of this sooner so you would have been able to correct yourself and make it worth the experience. But at least, if you succeed in your career later on, I would know that my little talk would have done you good".
    This destroyed me. For months after that, I had no trust in myself, and it took me more than a year to recompose myself. And in hindsight, I really did nothing wrong. I was a trainee, the very few legit mistakes he told me were benign and normal rookie mistakes I learned from, all the rest was a mix of bullshit, poor management on his side and gaslight-level harassment. He expected a trainee would put as much effort as him, and didn't liked that I was... Just teenager trainee discovering the employment world like it is the purpose of traineeships in the first place.
    But when it happened, I didn't have the experience and the bright of mind to just shield my mind against that. Now I know. If there is one good thing from that experience, it's that I got out tougher. But I would have proffered for this to not happen still.

    My brother has a friend that he went to scool with. That man stutter and has the habit to say "I mean" a lot in the sentence. Repedetly. The "I mean" in my language is said the same as "I think". The word is "mislim" So when my brothers friend was trying to explain something to his boss he said :"boss, I men, I mean, I have to ask...."

    I don't understand why paratrooper managers coming in as new hires try to rock the boat.
    If something ain't broke, why would you ruin your relationship with your employees to "fix" it?
    A true leader gently guides his team from behind, only correcting them when they go out of bounds. A tyrant jumps to the front and leads his team into tribulation because he doesn't SEE his team or their reactions/input/experience.
    I've become a new hire manager in the past. My suboordinates respected me because I acknowledged their experience and allowed it to be a part of my decision-making process. These people become more than employees; they become loyal, trusted teammates who will stick their necks out for you because you've done the same for them.
    It's absolutely appalling how few managers realize that the PEOPLE make the company, not the other way around.

    Un related to the video but tomorrow I'll finally get revenge 11 years after being a*used by a Karen and her son.
    Her son turned out to be a p*do 3 years ago after a 9 year old girl talked to me about what he did to her. (keeping the things she said private because she want to keep it that way.)
    Apparently he is growing on media and pretending to be nice and kind to others especially young kids, which is bad because of the intentions he has. He is doing this to gain their trust which unfortunately is very effective and my revenge plan is to stop all of this tomorrow.
    Karen always defends her son and tries to make people feel like they are in the wrong if her son did something bad. (her son is also a narcissist)
    Over the past few days I've been preparing to get revenge on this p*do and it'll finally happen tomorrow. (might bring up this story on reddit one day so I won't go into much detail here.)

    Wait, Mr. Nitwit still has a job there? If I were the managing director, soon as OP finished the fix, I would've marched Nitwit to HR for immediate termination. If you tell a worker, especially a high value one, "I don't pay you to think" it shows a gross level of incompetence and is not a good fit in the company ... at any level.

    That travel department thing reminds me of some fun ones of my former companies had...one such example they put the local fileservers "in the cloud" to save money (remote site using a T1 connection for ~100 people because few options or Internet at this location), now saving a MS Word doc took like 15-30 minutes so they're paying an office full of engineers multiple hours per day to do nothing while waiting for documents to open or save. Also because we were developers we were often working with DIFFERENT files (or generating files) every day which meant the caching "accelerator" software was useless since we didn't hit the same cached file every time.

    Bro. I don't understand managers sometimes. Like, mine is fine. She understands the jobs we do, so she's able to help and assist where necessary. But then there's dumbbutt managers like the last story who like to pick on employees with tenure and who have EXPONENTIAL knowledge about a company. If you decide to mess with those employees, your life will be a living hell. I don't understand how managers don't learn that yet

    THE FIRST STORY a student wrote a Google review about a place we were staying at, the teachers and staff delayed the departure just to threaten the girl to delete it or something, I was close by and heard some stuff about lawyers?? Darn where they entitled. After we left a few more students wrote bad reviews too, which I can't say weren't accurate, they just described how it was lol

    Last time in Malaysia and Singapore schools were very much like the one in the first story. You (might) be considered as being disrespectful for speaking up to your teacher and they were allowed to do anything in their power to discipline students- including smacking their heads with rulers or caning them.
    In Singapore punishing students like that for talking back against teachers is actually considered as assault now and teachers who resort to physical violence to discipline their students can actually be charged. (Not sure about Malaysia though)
    And side note: My grandmother knew someone who (apparently) ended up with permanent head damage because her teacher hit her head with a wooden ruler (deliberately, though that was like 50 years ago). That person's mother would complain to the teacher whenever that person got a headache.

    In Australia, at least, you should NEVER use your private vehicle unless you have a specific arrangement with your employer. The reason? Unless otherwise agreed with your insurer, you're most likely not covered in the event of an accident. Take a taxi & either claim it from your employer or off your taxes. It's simply not worth the risk.

    Girl Organization in Canada that sells cookies had a similar thing with trying to get their cookie recipe from Mr Christie. They asked Mr Christie to guarantee a peanut free facility and the company said no. So they went to Dare who promised peanut free. Mr Christie refused to give the recipe so Dare had to reverse engineer it. Dare’s been making the cookies ever since. And they’re better.

    Cumberland Farms required a person to work 'off the clock' as the store was not making money
    when the store was closing for the night. They would also have another person = in rank to the
    one being fired to call and tell the person not to bother coming in as you're fired.

    The last story was pretty similar to what happened my mother, I still starts to chuckle whenever I think about it. That was so priceless x)
