Probably because Goodson-Todman's legal team thought their couples' format, guessing the percentage was too similar to the poll question main game on Card Sharks...To avoid any legal action, they simply went to a one-on-one format, with the contestants picking their favorite category (out of a series of predetermined categories) and a catch-all 'Potluck' category, which was a jump-in question. Near the end of the run, all questions were jump-in, speeding up the game. Champion Tom was the biggest winner of the second format, winning eight games and over $20,000 in cash and prizes, until the series folded.
+Woodie B. Another B&E game show that had some similarity to a Goodson-Todman/Mark Goodson game show would be "Hot Potato," which had a survey-type question with seven answers and a three strikes = out feel from "Family Feud."
Seems like all of the B&E game show themes had the disco-techno sound; from TJW and TTD all the way up to Hot Potato, with Bullseye's theme being the most prominent.

When this debuted in 1980, I thought it was an outstanding game. It was educational, and rather exciting. Then the giant % sign on the floor broke, and they amended the jackpot to being won during the main game (first mistake). Then they eventually changed formats again and just made it a 1 vs 1 game (second and most fatal mistake). The first few shows with that giant percent sign and a target percentage to win a $25,000 progressive jackpot was awesome...
What would have been awesome was if PTP used the bonus round format from the 1979 pilot episode. The winning couple started with 100 percentage points, and had to determine the percentages to five questions. The percentage sign recorded their guess on the lower right circle, and the actual number was revealed on the upper left circle. For each number, he/she was off, one point was taken away. If the couple had any points left after three questions, they received $500. They could stop, or go for the fourth question--if they still had points, they received $1,000. They could risk the grand for one final question worth $3,000, if they succeeded in maintaining at least one point at the end. The couple also received a big cash jackpot if their percentage guess matched exactly to any of the five questions. Some of the pilot audio commercials I heard had jackpots of $25,000...or more--some even mentioning $48,000!
The biggest problem was that Dan Enright was the executive producer for PTP, not Jack Barry. Enright did well for Tic Tac Dough (although it was most likely that Barry was calling the shots), but everyone was still leary of Enright until the day he died.
@Dodgerfn5 I agree with you on that. I could see myself posting a video of me doing a mock game show using this theme, Without them saying Play the Percentages.

This really is a fantastic piece of music.
2 people who disliked this can't seem to stay away from the zero.
Also used on Nipsey Russell's Juvenile Jury in the early days of BET, ( I MEAN REALLL EARLY DAYS!!!) LOL
@Dodgerfn5 Hal Hidey seemed to do that with a few of his theme songs...I know his "Joker's Wild" and "Strike it Rich" themes ended abruptly as well...
we all love Jack Barry
Great game show host. Rest in peace...
He was a Genius and a legend Rip
And America could use more Judge Von Eric, too... :D
Play the Percentages basically became Twenty-One by the end of its run.

@@rwboa22 Kudos to Hal Hidey for them... :-)
I think even Hollywood Connection's theme was like that, too.
ELOVE4U Very disco and very clear
This may be the only theme song ever that you didn't know when the end of the song was. Great theme though.

+Woodie B., that pilot bonus round you just mentioned sounds a little like the "Lucky Seven" pricing game on TPIR.
"Play The Percentages" is a Sony Pictures Television Production. This is Rohan Padiyar speaking.
The center of the PTP set where the percentages were revealed during the main game looks like the NBC logo.
RIP Geoff Edwards.
I hope the percentages are always in your favor.
