How To Find Your Soulmate - Plato (Platonic Idealism)

  • In this video we will be talking about how to find your soulmate from the philosophy of Plato. His philosophy is often referenced as Platonic idealism and he was one of the first thinkers who addressed the concept of soulmate.
For Plato, a soulmate is someone with whom we feel a very strong affinity, and the love we feel for that person goes beyond physical attraction. A soulmate is someone with whom we can be ourselves, in our complete nature. For Plato, romantic love is deemed to be of a higher metaphysical and ethical status than sexual or physical attractiveness alone. The idea of romantic love initially emerged from the Platonic concept of love as a deep affection, through which we can contemplate the real beauty of our being - and of the world. This beauty is not limited to physical beauty, but also involves a spiritual kind of beauty, Plato calling it “the Form of Beauty”. For Plato, the love of beauty culminates in the love of philosophy, the subject that pursues the highest capacity of thinking. So keeping his teachings in mind, in this video we bring you 5 ways to help you find your soulmate, from the philosophy of Plato:
    01. Believe that there is a soulmate for you
    02. Cultivate friendship
    03. Feel safe, like you belong
    04. Climb the ladder of love
    05. Reignite the poetry in your relationships
I hope you enjoyed watching the video and hope these 5 ways to help you find your soulmate from the philosophy of Plato will add value to your life.
Plato is one of the most famous philosophers of all time. He represented the philosophy of ancient Greece, belonging to its Classical Period. He was born into an aristocratic and influential family in Athens, where he founded the Academy, the first institution of higher learning in the entire Western world. Along with his mentor Socrates, and his student Aristotle, Plato is one of the most influential individuals in the entire history of humankind. It can even be said that he is one of the pillars of Western civilisation. His philosophy is often referenced as Platonic idealism and his biggest contribution is the Theory of Forms or Doctrine of Ideas, which asserts that the physical world is not the real world. Instead, ultimate reality exists beyond our physical world, in the world of ideas. Plato was not only a prominent figure of philosophy, but also of religion and spirituality; so-called Neo-platonism deeply influenced Christian theology. Plato invented the written dialogue and dialectic form of philosophy. Some of his most famous books are The Republic, The Symposium, The Apology of Socrates, Allegory of the Cave and The Dialogues of Plato, in which the main character is Socrates, who influenced Plato’s philosophy to a great extent. His entire work has survived for more than 2,400 years and has remained very popular the entire time. Like his mentor, Plato was a practical philosopher and there are many life lessons to learn from his philosophy.

Except that all relationships in his ideal society are subordinate to the state. You've missed the fact that the Republic rejects art, including a loathing of poets and how they and theatre challenge assumption and authority. So a larger inclusion of Plato's actual thought in the quote you've chosen is that love to him is ultimately something to be eliminated, and as such is why he's known as a Fascist. Platonic love is nothing but cold indifference for prioritising everything but love. He did not desire a loving society, and if love coukd heal the wound of the human condition, that it had to be kept at bay, so the state could insinuate itself in the place of love. No responsibly ethical approach to life or philosophy would recommend to anyone that they build their personal relationships around plato. You're sabotaging people.

You cannot classify illness based on what it makes you do, if that is the case literally everything is. Knowledge is an illness because it gives you ideas and those ideas makes you do bad things, eating or hunger is an illness because it makes you fight for food, being an introvert is an illness because it makes you anti-social and weird (for lack of a better word) and etc. Consequences doesn't make the action good or bad/illness or normal.
Like think about it, I am assuming you don't have a partner/girlfriend/boyfriend but if you did would you actually die for them? Well you don't need to consider this scenario for a partner only but apply this to Friends or Family or pets or a job that you love, like you love them but would you seriously die or kill yourself for them? Or do "crazy things" (like you implied) for them? No obviously! Everybody says that but how many actually do it? Not so many actually but we like to think about it because it gives the impression that you care for them and that is why it's so prevalent in media, it is prevalent in movies as acts of honour. But in actuality...those things are pretty rare...

The advice that Plato gives is no doubt very helpful and useful. However, the notion of there being 'the one' seems more like a wishful fantasy than something real. Even the idea is based on mythology.
In any case, it is important to ensure that you and your partner are compatible and you should definitely, under no circumstances, settle for a toxic partner. But you should also have realistic expectations of what real people are like and not have astronomically high standards.

Sadly, there's a point none seems willing to touch about all this:
_Not everyone has what it takes to become someone's soulmate._
Genetically, philosophically, abstractally... pick your point of view; it remains a fact not everyone has what it takes.
Or even more sadly: If there _is_ someone out there for everyone, there's too the chance that one passed away before meeting with their second.

The whole point is that "the one" becomes "the one" only after you've changed and improved yourself, so that you may earn their love. "The one" is a concept, not a specific individual person. If you want to find love you should first aim to make yourself capable of loving and capable of being loved. It's not about physically finding a single individual person among the whole human population that is "destined" for you. It's about transforming yourself first. When you do that, you will see there is a huge number of potential people who could become your "one".

The idea of a soulmate is fanciful, idealistically romanticized and delusional. You only see what a partnership is made of when life gets very hard. Are you better together or better apart. And, at the end of the day you are responsible for your own happiness. The soulmate idea is a dangerous concept in that it claims you will be fulfilled once your other is found and this diminishes personal responsibility to your happiness.

Thanks for the great video. Just one thing, if we're referring to romantic love, even though at the "bottom of the ladder" physical attraction is necessary. It is not the most important thing, of course, but it is necessary, otherwise that love becomes simply a friendship and nothing more, and two people in a romantic relationship who are "just friends" don't really work well together since we do have basic needs for physical intimacy and connection that can't be glossed over.

Wow! I must be a genius myself because that's pretty much the definition I have about a soulmate and I'm no relationship expert. Although I probably won't meet mine, if I do, I wouldn't know what to do really.

@@azizharrington1304 And then having a family and dumping your man 10 years later, breaking up the family cause "you want to be happy"? Ha ha. It's the irony of human life: there are no guarantees. All options have pros and cons, your example and R C's being the two common opposites. The difference in modern times in the Western world is that it's mostly women breaking up families (70-80% of the time) but we're somehow not supposed to mention it. As a man, it's sadly makes less and less sense to invest in something that can end at anytime and be penalized for it. Women are less happy than ever, on pills, families broken but hey, hurray for feminism LOL

And yet there is so much suffering in the world due to society's idea of what love "should" be like and the old destructive ideas most people have of having law get involved with love. Following conditioned beliefs that are not questioned by most and imply 'rules' can be harmful to our well being. Love is subjective and relative to each couple, the younger generations are realizing that and are drawing away from past distorted beliefs of love. One cannot read a book on how to love, for that is like reading a book on how to live (of course there are helpful external reasources such as books but)..your individual consciousness and experience will truly bring that to you as you progress onwards towards the unending journey of life.

A partner should be a friend, and then a lover: where there is honesty and friendship, then there might be true love. somebody with whom you can share your joys and troubles. Its highly important to cultivate friendship and respect from the start. The real soulmate would never intentionally cause you deep.suffering and despair. A soul mate is supposed to make you more confident in yourself to overcome life' s challenges. Dont setttle for a relationship that brings you down, that causes you harm.

True pure n simple love is sparks in the heart you feel that love in every fiber of the heart All or None Law in the medical terms then with conscious rational awareness and concrete actions you nourish and care for it! Buddha said that when You like a flower you plucked it but when you love a flower you nurture and take care of it!

It was identified that the androgynous two faced, four armed, red beings were not gaining control of their emotions. They were only controlling their environment. Living their lives without fear and not understanding how to react to fear. "A change was in order and nothing was lost," said Zeus. While the emotion of anger got the best of Prometheus. How do you deal with your fear?
