The Avigdor Yentl scene...wow...great directorial coaching. Intense. The Amy Irving scene...that moment when Streisand said "move in tighter" was genius catching Irving's facial pure look of love for her husband. And the burnt cookie scene...OMG how funny!!!
The last scene here was brilliant. For me, actually, perfection. Both of them were so invested in it and so dedicated to the moment. One of the all-time great cinematic moments
WOW I LOVE YOU TUBE THEY HAVE THINGS I THOUGHT I WOULD NEVER SEE. I LIKE AT THE END WHERE HE SAYS F**K SO HE CAN REALLY GET INTO CHARACTER. GREAT ACTING.
How can you turn that intensity off and on in a moment? You can’t. Good on Barbra to keep it going and not stop him. That scene is brilliant in the movie.
absolutely brilliant. the best movie that didn't win an oscar. it transcends awards. like hitchcock, citizen kane, judy garland ... not winning only adds to the legend.
From a religious standpoint it's actually legit. According to the gmara you cannot waste your sperm in vain so gay men struggle allot more within the community, especially if they're still believers. Women can genuinely find ways to be together now but this film was along time ago and speaks of a time where it was a sin sadly.
@Dusty Grady No. It fucking isn't. They were SHOOTING WITH A MOVIE CAMERA IN COSTUME. Which means these were outtakes. Rehearsals aren't started with a clapper. These are outtakes with Barbra directing either on camera or off. Learn the difference.
There was much written about how difficult it is to direct oneself in a film.... as much as I love this film, it looks like Barbra is struggling with directing and acting simultaneously..
Probably, but that adds to the appeal for me. I don’t see it as struggling in a negative sense...I see it as she rose to the challenge and succeeded splendidly.
Wow, I had no idea she was this good! To direct in the middle of these emotional scenes without breaking the acting intensity? Amazing.
Wow…the last scene gives me goosebumps! She is insanely talented…seamlessly bouncing between acting and directing.
Wow Mandy is so good that last scene!!! Even Barbra was like scared…so good!

S Robin Dittrich That scene WAS really intense, eek! He must have been trying to keep himself psyched up but I was almost afraid haha
::star girl:: I was scared out of my skull when Avigdor's rage became so violent! HOLY MOLY!
S Robin Dittrich Same!! I was worried he was going to hurt something! 😅
Streisand is really something! Brilliant!

I laughed so hard at "he who can eat these cookies." :)
I love Streisand's laugh after the "he who can eat these cookies" line. So full out belly cackle.
the guy eating the cookie scene was so cute
Its a Great film, with Fantastic Locations
What a genius woman! Amazing! Everything she does is magic!
Wonderful direction wonderful acting.

Mandy staying in character even in between takes was a bit frightening. He even shook Barbra there if you watch closely.

She strives for excellence
And for that she was incredibly hated in the industry, which doesn't make sense at all to me. :(
Barbra is a genius! Also I love Amy in this movie, kinda wish her character had ended up with Yentl

Barbra is even more a genius that I thought. Amazing!!!
Wonderful to watch her directing as well as playing, "at the same time" (oh, it was one of her song... "At the same time", in 'Higher ground" album).
She manages the movie.
So genious.
She acts, she is thinking in right possition of the other actor for the camera take.
She is AWESOME
Genus... Pure Genus...
It's not rehearsal footage, it's outtakes.

How did she not win an academy award and others for this idk. Injustice. Super under rated.
Robert Duval had the same problem in making THE APOSTLE a movie he directed and starred in.
Brilliant Streisand
Todah :-)

The movie is beautifully done. Mandy and Amy are great. Streisand is unwatchable. Since the owl and the pussycat.
