I have 4th Edition Organic Chemistry book by David Klein and Nitrile & Nitro are not present in the book for functional groups. What could be the reason they are not present in the book?
It’s an acid or base anhydride. The reason it is not an ether is because ethers don’t react well when mixed with other reactants unless it is a strong acid and its reactions are similar to the alcohol group ; whereas an acid anhydride because it has an extra oxygen depending on what is added to a solution the oxygen can either give or donate a hydrogen which causes it to make strong basic or acidic reactions.
