My parents always assure me that growing up will let me explore my dreams and achieve them. Hey! I felt the exact same, and to be completely transparent, it was rough for me at times in my first year, but i'm in my second year and things are a lot better. Remember though, that everyone's journey is different and different flowers blossom at different times (cheesy, i know, but it's true!) and just because someone looks like they've got it together, it doesn't necessarily mean they do. Also, just because that's how my first years have been, doesn't mean yours will be! My word of advice for homesickness is to reach out whenever you're feeling down rather than holing yourself up, whether that's to your family or friends or to a professional at university. Take it one day at a time, do your best while doing your best to take care of yourself, continue doing the things that truly bring you joy, and don't try to change yourself into someone else. I'm still navigating this journey too, and I wish you a fulfilling first year:)

@@olaolech5438 you're right, the fear necessarily doesn't go away even when we know it'll be okay. I think everyone is scared going to uni ( p.s. no matter how cool or "put together" someone looks, i promise they're scared too), and it's normal for you to be scared because it's a big change and a new chapter of life. I try to remind myself that "right now" is just a page in a giant novel, and even tho idk what's next, it doesn't mean i'm not on the right path. I’m 17 so while I am 10 years younger than him I am at the time in my life where this song is so relatable. I am terrified that my childhood is over and that in less than a year I will be an adult. Obviously I know that 18 year olds are not supposed to have their lives figured out and that 18 is an arbitrary age for adulthood so actual adults still see kids. Still, I’ll be graduating high school and I have dreading this since 6th grade. At the beginning of 7th grade I had a freak out because all of the people that were in seventh grade when I started middle school were in high school and it felt like I just started middle school. Mentally I have not moved past 8th grade. Almost all of my favorite characters are younger than me. I still think of high school as for big kids and now I’m a senior. I’m not ready for collage! I have had it planned out for years that I would be taking a gap year but that just means that college is only two years away and next year I will be on my own. I won’t have school. I don’t know how to function without school for more than just a summer break. I know that I need to look be in the present but that is so much easier said than done and I have a freak out about this at least once every single day without fail. I’m not ready to get older. This song is everything I am feeling about my life and future.

Mentally I have not moved past 8th grade. Almost all of my favorite characters are younger than me. I still think of high school as for big kids and now I’m a senior. I’m not ready for collage! I have had it planned out for years that I would be taking a gap year but that just means that college is only two years away and next year I will be on my own. I won’t have school. I don’t know how to function without school for more than just a summer break. I know that I need to look be in the present but that is so much easier said than done and I have a freak out about this at least once every single day without fail. I’m not ready to get older. This song is everything I am feeling about my life and future.
