I have been watching so many tributes to Hayden Fry, a fellow TEXAN.....and this popped up....one thing I am certain of....as much as the fans and players enjoyed this ride...NO ONE enjoyed it more than HAYDEN FRY....a great guy!!! R.I.P. a job well-done....
I was the first one on the goal post when IA beat Michigan State in the game that sent Hawks to Rose Bowl in ‘81. I have picture from the Quad City Times as proof. It was spectacular!!
The pass @3:16 was ruled no touchdown, which completely changed the course of the 1985 Michigan game and led to Rob Houghtin's heorics. I was there. It rained all night and all morning, slowing to a drizzle by kickoff. I believe the officials were confused when Helverson's foot shot a stream of water, and they inferred that it had to have come from the end line.
Fair point. I put more emphasis in Larry Station's stop of Jamie Morris on third-and-short. If that defensive play doesn't happen, how that game finished doesn't happen.
@@johnvannostrand7612 station has admitted that he sold out to shooting one gap, and it was the one Morris was in. If he picks any other gap it's probably a first down.
Sweet video I wish would have had video of Illinois game in 1985 that 59-0 blowout was epic for Iowa fan in suburban Chicago. Great games back than especially Chuck Long Era. My sister wa at Iowa from 1982-1986 same time frame. Ohio State In 1983 to break the curse. Peach Bowl in 1982 against UT. The destruction of Texas at 1984 Freedom Bowl.. Both Michigan St and Michigan last second victories. Minnesota 1985 to clinch Rose Bowl. The black lab that managed to get on field during game. 1984 Indiana game that Long had 22 straight completions. 1984 Illinois game where Fry pulled a couple trick plays.
Interesting comment by the announcer: "Shattering any hopes of a national championship for this Nebraska team." Well, funny thing happened on the way to the Orange Bowl. The Huskers could have won the national title by beating Clemson, but lost 22-15 without Turner Gill, who also did not play that day against Iowa or for another three weeks in his sophomore year. Oh, for old days.
