  • 5lb, 7oz. Not yet convinced that we have the best of both worlds, but I kind of love this quirky bird!
More later from the younger chicks. There's 12 of them to ponder as they grow.

On the White Chantecler, the males would not be hen feathered, but on the Partridge Chantecler, a female line male might be slightly more hen feathered. This is most evident on Partridge Wyandotte males that are hen breeders. To get the really nice 3 concentric rings of penciling on the females, a nice wide feather helps, and when bred to the extreme in show stock, that shows up in the males of that line to a degree as well.

I really have nothing of value to add here, except to say I LOVE the look of this bird!
I'm still carrying the sting from a marauding skunk tragedy a week ago, wishing I had started my own flock expansion project already, with some American Bresse. 😢 I'm not quiiiite ready for them...especially after the skunk penetrated my Premiere 1 setup at night last week, and dug under my Chicken Tractor, beheading 4. Which Included my favorite, broody hen, Hairy-ette. A FULL ON pet, who'd follow me around the property like a puppy if I ignored her, pecking my pantsleg until I'd pick her up.
So I'm watching lots of Mandelyn's videos, to ease the pain. And upgrading anti-predator measures.

That's so hard! We have a skunk stealing Turkey eggs that I need to address, carefully. Our dogs got skunked one time and that smell...

I have a buckeye hen the acts just like that. Good looking white bird I'm not much on white but she is good looking

The look seems to be more Chantecler, differences I can spot between her and her sire is that she has a higher tail, slightly. Tighter feathers, leg color changed and the fleshing seems thicker/earlier.

I'm seeing a lot more hen characteristics; tail, tone, even the type of nipping save for the one that broke the skin on your hand. It's rare for a hen to be that ornery unless she's broody. I agree about the Cornish looking head. I have a small batch 3.5 weeks old and the similarities are stark. However, not sure if its a trick of the camera or the contrast in color, but those have to be the biggest eyes I've ever seen on a chicken.

I've been leaning 90% towards pullet since 12 weeks and nothing male has popped out. But she has hopped at me. I quickly caught her after that and it seems to be an isolated event. Until she pecked me hard when I was grabbing the drinker to refill. She's a nut.

I don’t own chickens yet, but she seems like a bit of a rowdy pullet. Very unusual 🤔 I know this is an ongoing experiment of yours, but I wonder what would happen if you bred a pure American Bresse male back into her if she proves female 🤔

Yeah I might see 1 in 200 with her brand of temperament.
I do want to breed back into the Bresse. Which might cause a rise in height for the cushion comb to reduce later on but I'm really hoping to get the blue legs coming through and the faster growth rate.
