@@vikbob4356 You definitely should play if you got the itch! Even with my raging at RNG, FTL is still endlessly varied in the runs and builds you come up with.
In my opinion, no. The main reason: charge time. Flak II's have a 21 second charge time, compared to a 10 second charge time for Flak 1. So 2 flak II's would be 14 projectiles every 21 seconds, 4 flak I's would be 12 projectiles every 10 seconds. Even if you added an extra flak 1 to the Flak 2 setup, you still get more projectiles over time because of how fast flak I's fire. So four flak 1's give you 24 projectiles every 21 seconds, compared to flak 2. Charge time is a HUGE deciding factor in many weapon choices.
I'm a physics major, and since gravitational fields caused space to bend, and that is the scifi excuse for how space ships move, it is 'maybe' possible for two missiles shot from the same ship to end up approaching from different angles.
It's simply simulating that the ships are maneuvering on a 3d plane but isn't represented in 2d so it just shows the artillery coming in at different angles to simulate it.

Only 5 years late 🎉
I always go early engine upgrade so diving isn't a massive problem for me...
Flak only was a mistake
I don't Play this game. From what are you escaping from?
FTL is about a ship running from a rebel fleet to warn the federation base about a super strong flagship coming to wipe out the federation. It's kinda like Star Wars: A New Hope, in that the Death Star is trying to destroy the rebel base....I think I just found out where they got their story from, btw...
lol :D
Why were you targeting shields? Flak ignores shields just like missiles right?
Flak does not ignore shields...only missiles do (and one random pierce laser that is only available on the Rock B ship). Flak is unique in that all its projectiles hit shields AT THE SAME TIME, which makes Flak weapons uniquely effective at shield busting. It's one of the reasons that Flak I is one of my favorite weapons.
@@rand118 ty 😊
Considering how much metal you are throwing at them at this point you are practically throwing another ship at them to kill them
There’s a few things wrong with this but it’s so much to type.
Tbh using the gravitational pull of an object (planet) it is entirely possible to hit a ship from two opposing directions at the same time
I like these videos, but why such low quality?
This video is from 3 1/2 years ago, and I didn't have the same setup I have now. My videos are much better quality now, although I do have some complaints about audio desync because I use a 2 PC setup to improve video/audio quality. Someday, I'll actually have a stream that is perfect quality...maybe!
@@rand118 No such thing haha! Thanks for your videos I've just been checking them out randomly (which is fitting). The double Glaive run was so much fun
@@matthewboutros2813 Yeah, we've had some pretty crazy runs, I always like taking OP ideas and running with them or ridiculous challenges and seeing if we can complete them, keeps the game fresh...and salty!
Why focus the shield room, tho.
If I hack shield room and attack it, their crew usually congregates there to try and repair it and you can get a lot of crew kills. Can make phase 3 boarding boss much easier. Also, it's just my habit to attack the boss's shields first.
I've played quite a lot of FTL in my life but HOW did you change the properties of the artillery weapon? I thought it was always a beam?
I've done nothing to the artillery beam, the Fed C has always been a flak artillery. Ever since the Fed C came out with Advanced Edition, this has been the case. Are you sure you've played a lot of FTL? Maybe you've always played on standard and not advanced?
@@rand118 I definitely thought I had, but it was a long time ago. Maybe I just forgot or haven't played the C ship before. This new information kind of makes me want to revisit the game. Thanks.
@@vikbob4356 You definitely should play if you got the itch! Even with my raging at RNG, FTL is still endlessly varied in the runs and builds you come up with.
You came really close to accidentally winning with the artillery beam at the end there instead of the flak
his artillery was flak lol
Why remove them from combat? You have a clone bay.
*sells burst 2* 1:11:06
39:55 You had 8 total jumps you could make, because the 2nd to last one still wouldnt have been a dive
Isn't it better to have 2 flak 2s?
Hey, I found another video where you play on easy mode! :D
you should try 4 burst laser 2
very funny
I'm a physics major, and since gravitational fields caused space to bend, and that is the scifi excuse for how space ships move, it is 'maybe' possible for two missiles shot from the same ship to end up approaching from different angles.
It's simply simulating that the ships are maneuvering on a 3d plane but isn't represented in 2d so it just shows the artillery coming in at different angles to simulate it.
Why didn't you call this "Flaknarok"
Hah, so many good names for Flak builds, the "Flakkening" just became the stream meme (I might have stolen that name from another streamer like LethalFrag, I can't remember, lol)!
I’m new to the channel, do you stream on TH-cam or twitch? Considering subscribing :p
Edit : Scratch that, read description, think I’d like to subscribe :)
Woah you upgrade your engines way less than me.
Welp you're way better at the game than me so I won't criticize (give you FLAK)
Rofl, you can give me Flak ANY time! But yeah, I think other people upgrade engines more than I do. I seem to prioritize other stuff like value points more.
480p? :x
nope
This video is from 3 years ago and I didn't have as nice a setup as I do now. Sorry I haven't been stream amazing quality since the dawn of time!
@@rand118 It's ok man. TBH I wanted to watch the video, and you seem pretty chill. However I'm watching on an LCD TV and 480p upscales horribly to 1080p. I suffer from double vision due to an eye injury so the blurriness would just end up giving me a terrible headache.
@@JohnSmith-ty2he Yeah, you might not be able to make it through some of my older videos, then. I used to stream on just my laptop, and streaming in higher quality/resolution wasn't as feasible back then.
the shape of the ship looks just like ....
*nuts*
FLAK 2 AND HEAVY LASER 2 ON SECTOR 1. BRUH.
The rng in this game hates me. I swear, shops rarely have weapons but plenty of people and drones but no drone module.
How could you miss the opportunity to call it Flakakke? Disappointed.
480p? Are you serious in this day and age?
3 potatoes a wire and a lens can make better quality then this.
Sorry, Bozebilly, this is one of my earlier videos. I'm not sure why it was at 480p, I'm pretty sure I have always streamed at least 720p since I started streaming. This video is about 3 and 1/2 years old, it's also possible the upload process from twitch to youtube wasn't as high quality as it is now. Hopefully my other videos will be up to your quality standards.
