There's a few awards there that caught me out years ago.The General Assault badge JFS.This badge was never produced by JFS.The fantasy SS Gau Munchen badge .The gold wound badge is an infamous Floch fake.Floch made some very dangerous fakes that have fooled many collectors.Once you recognise the chracteristics of a Floch fake they are easy to spot.

@@paulforfreedom780 Yes indeed, on TH-cam about 2 months ago. We all know it's fake but Thomas still 'believes' it's genuine and he didn't tell the sender's name. So strange.

@@christophemacker5338 Like those Nuremberg rally etched HJ knives that have absolutely no historical evidence of ever being produced. No one has ever found an old sales catalogue featuring them.He went on a story ,his old pal Johnson got them when the Berlin Wall came down and he stands by them.Although he has the odd questionable item on his videos he is entertaining and very knowledgeable about daggers.

When buying antiques it always pays too go through reputable dealers with a good reputation

Even reputable dealers get it wrong.I know dealers that have been going for years that still list fake crap on their websites .The very best way to protect yourself is to research before you buy.

I stay away from medals, badges, daggers, not only because the originals are so expensive, there are so many fakes. I'm even very skeptical of cloth items like armbands, patches, etc. So, I only buy those from people I know, that know people, that lived in the WW2 era. Personally, I prefer signed books, photos, postcards, documents as they are personally attached to a individual of notoriety. It's very hard to produced a signature aged as a old book it's in. Love your videos. As a expat American I prefer foreign voices.😊

relic condition also is no guarantee of authenticity. some unscrupulous characters will bury fakes for a time in the ground to artificially age items to fool buyers.

Excellent presentation Alex! Thanks for sharing this one. The fake memorabilia today has unfortunately become very sophisticated. Even high end dealers can unknowingly have a fake within inventory/ collection. I have been around German WW II memorabilia since a very young age and for a long time has been part of family business. Years ago, advanced collectors could spot a fake extremely quick. And beyond that, decades ago some good replicas were sold with full disclosure that they were facsimiles. People would purchase them until fund's permitted purchase of authentic item. They served also as good comparison references. Have had a couple cases of them that were set aside. A few years ago destroyed them, as I would never want any to enter the market inadvertently.

There is a finite amount of original items and collectors are asking stupid money for them. The message is - be aware and buy from me

Yes, I was given two German WW2 fakes recently, quite good quality, but they'd used the USSR method for attaching to the uniform, a small bolt with tightening nut/disc. So assume they originated from Russia/Ukraine? Luckily I was given them, not paid for. I have a good colection of kit, badges, webbing etc. But I also display the fakes as it teaches people what to look for. In the UK when the 1914-18 100th anniversary, shells, bullet cases and other items were sent over to Pakistan and China where they were tooled into Trench Art items, then brought back into the country in container loads. These were sold as authentic to feed into the public's enthusiasm for remembering WW1. Happy hunting!

Thanks for this presentation I don't have a lot of medals and badges a few of my dads bringbacks and other vet ones. Have you picked up any Russian badges over here?
