John Wall Superstar Ride Pull Down and Build Up Timelapse

- Back in 2019 John and Buck Wall pulled down their family's Superstar ride after being open at a Popley carnival, drove 40 miles to Wickham and built it back up ready to open the next day. That's some serious hard graft, proving that showmen really are tough workers when it comes to providing all the fun of the fair.
The two brothers worked like a well oiled machine knowing exactly where to be and when to do each part of the pull down/build up. Showing how strong they are as a family.

Great video. I love how they swing the arms out and bolt them to the centre hub. Very compact design. Do you know what mechanism is in place to prevent the boom from rotating on the ground? I assume that the boom is locked into place with a pin which retracts when it's in the fully raised position?

Can't help but appreciate not just what a flat ride will do, but how it folds into 1 or 2 trailer units, that's more of a skill..
My mouth dropped open when I saw that marvel operating - Especially when all I saw them do was slide the cars on their rails - next thing they were spinning upside down with patrons!

They're heavy duty steel pins, would take something immense to break them.

I wonder how long it took to design that ride so it all fits on one trailer. Clever. Very clever!
Not really hard. When it was designed it was when one trailer , and no stairs with a big platform was the craz. The simplest design,
I often think designing how to pack it away takes more skill than how to make a ride actually work.
With computers and technology the way we now have them, it wouldn’t be hard to simplify what was once a very complex matter of storing an adult fairground ride onto the back of a number of trailers. The old Waltzer rides for example, used to be broken down and spread onto the back of a trailer with the centre section on its own set of wheels. Now its all part of one trailer.
I once helped build and pull down a Waltzer and every single part, nut and bolt had its own pride of place of storage. This not only made it easier to make room for on the trailer but also made it quicker to locate as each piece was added during the build.
I am always amazed at the planning of a carnival or club-day where every ride, stall, caravan and lorry-trailer unit are fitted so precisely within what usually looks like the small space of a market town car-park or village green.
@@KebabMusicLtd Whats even better is that most of the time its all done with counting the number of steps! When they pull outside my familys house every year they pack in the rides like that and just pace it out. Year and years of experience.
Holy engineering Batman. How long would a time-lapse be on the engineering process of that ride ? Seems like a ride that would have more viewers than riders . Have you ridden it ?

there is a ride kinda like this called Remix II extra rush and i wish it return because they had the fog machine and the strobe lights on it going and the ride was fun as all heck!

Definitely not as hard on the back as lifting dodgem track plates or waltzer panels. Still hard work though, especially with how closer together they open on different grounds.

Yes we do the east coast year round, but I originally started as just a green horn working for someone else then I bought one ride and then another and another 20 years later I own a zipper, cliffhanger ferris-wheel scrambler, Pharaoh's Fury, starship3000,hurricane, sizzler,casino, salt n pepper shakers, skydiver,Roundup, 16 games fried dough cotton candy and about 15 kiddie land rides suxh as double hamptons, super fun slide, elephants,kid power, house of mirrors, pumpkin patch, tea cups, a couple other s too, looking into a delusion and bumper cars but seems like it's not worth the set up time for bumper cars/scooters seems like to small of an arena for scooters on a mobile unit
So the main boom arm has no support while in transport?
No, but it has a lot less weight on it with the cars removed.

that fold up isnt nothing try a real ride like a skywheel or an spider those will test your metal as a showmen
How does a Sky Wheel or Spider compare with an old school dodgem track with the metal plates weighing a tonne.
At least being fold up means they can move rides quickly. Such as this occasion where the Superstar closed at 5pm, moved 50 miles and was ready to go at 10 am the next morning.
