29 years later. Still awesome.
Can anyone explain what this song is about? I understand "Hobo humpin". But "Left for dead, not understood". And: "Baby, we dont love you. Baby we dont know you".
@@IvanRatama Its the 90´s. Sometimes lyrics mattered, sometimes they completely didnt. I remember interviews with Kurt Cobain, laughing about all the interpretations of his lyrics, which in fact didnt have much meaning. Or at least not as much as people wished them to have.
@@corneliussulla9963 it's crazy because reading the first line of your comment, I immediately thought of kurt cobain and then I read the rest. Great minds lol
@@IvanRatamathe urban legend story in the nineties, was the song is based on a true story of a middle class girl in Seattle, I think, who would go around having sex with homeless guys for kicks. Hobo humping slobo babe.
I saw this video on MTV once in the 990's and it was like no one else I knew had heard of it. Finally, today, it pops up randomly in my suggested after watching a few other music videos. I never thought I'd ever see it again. C,mon youtube algorithm. Work your magic and find me more songs from my life I might never hear again, otherwise!
I'd also forgotten the sheer brilliantness of this video. I need more of that sweet 90s weird rock TH-cam. I need more.
The 90s. The last great decade of music.
Early 2000s everyone said how bad the 90s were for music, looking back we didn’t know how good we had it 😢😢
No truer words have ever been spoken! The 90s really were so eclectic. Id give a kidney to get back my HUGE CD collection that got stolen over the summer of 96 in Charleston SC.
I remember hearing this song and wondering if Bjork and the Beastie Boys got into a car accident together.
Guy 1: you got Björk in my Beastie Boys!
Guy 2: you got Beastie Boys in my Björk!
(Looks at each other, does a Keanu 'whoa' in unison)
I love this video because it looks like they're having a lot of fun instead of trying to make some high concept vid.
27 years after the fact still rocks and brings a smile to face!
Yep. The cutest, biggest, smile that takes you from Sweden all the way to Tinseltown! Get it? Her braces? Tinsel-teeth? Tap tap! Is this thing on?
My dad actually saw these guys open up for another band. Thing was he was a fan of them, the rest of the crowd didnt know them very well, he was singing along with this song and had his arms in the air. The bass player took note of this, pointed at him and said "you gotta get up here man" so he then got up on stage and performed with them, even shared a mic with cia berg.
My brother got me into these guys, think he saw them at Reading festival in 96 or around that time.
I saw them live in a club once. I had heard this song (yes, from Beavis and Butthead), but knew nothing else about them. They blew the damn roof off they were so awesome. Guitarist even let my friend strum for a few seconds from the audience reaching up on stage. They were just awesome. They went on before someone, I don't even remember, and I felt bad for that guy when he got on stage because the crowd wanted these guys back the entire time. Didn't help he was playing some sort of weird, dark techno with no energy to it. But yeah, their live show was one of the best surprise performances I've had the pleasure of stumbling into.
The 712 persons who disliked this are hobos who would rather be left alone.
Jesus, I remember this on Beavis and Butthead! Lol
"You call those nads, sir!? Drop and give me 20!"
"wow wow.. check it out!!!! she licked his Armpit!!!!" Beavis
or was it butthead? ^^
I have not heard this in a long time. Fantastic! I miss 90's music!
This is one of the best music vids ever made. Man I miss the 90s as a teen!!!
I think thee director was Mark Pellington, who was also the director of Pearl Jam's Jeremy video.
I remember being hooked to this song so much that I waited the whole day to be played on MTV. I would then put a tape recorder to the TV speaker to have it recorded for my walkman. Endless rewinds and repeats.
Those were the days, slappin a tape in the boombox and recording off the radio and what not. Music was like weed back then, getting it was half the fun
Dedication - but better now; all the music you could want at your fingertips, it's a dream! 🤩 No trawling elitist record shops, trying to track down a song you once heard by mumbling some of the lyrics, lugging around your body-weight in vinyl -Which even if kept in plastic sleeves, & not allowing anyone to breathe near it, (since nearly having a coronary when your 'mate' gives back a borrowed LP covered in greasy fingerprints) still gets scratched - or having to re-spool your precious C-90 mix with a pencil after the tape player randomly decides to eat it, so it then sounds like it's being played underwater; Meh.
And not having access to decent music videos unless 1 of your mate's parents had satellite TV; Boo! - Then again, we were able to get into some amazing alt/rock gigs & Pubs clubs age 14+ thanks to the common sense laxer-licensing in UK 💖 before it got americanised criminalised; swings & roundabouts..
I remember this got a lot of rotation on MTV Europe. Whenever I think of Breeders Cannonball I think of this anyway, Beck, Beastie Boys, Henry Rollins , if you caught an hour or so a day of MTV, you'll have seen them.
This is one of the most gloriously weird songs/clips from the 90's.......maybe ever.....I STILL LOVE IT! 🤣
This kind of music could only be made in the nineties. I couldn't imagine anything this bonkers coming out today.
I miss this kind of great mad stuff. Oh yeah the next track was liar by the Rollins band. Hear the drum roll before the video stops ?
I had that exact same red dress. Ahh. The 90's were a wonderful time.
Man, this is SO avantgarde. It's aesthetically raw, rude, noisy, groovy. It has aged pretty well.
@@PasleyAviationPhotography
I was thinking the same thing. This comment is so over the top artsy i barfed in my mouth a little upon reading it.
Before Boy Bands emerged, and Clear Channel destroyed radio, 90s music was peak weird, and I still love it!
EXACTLY. These folks and Primus and The Butthole Surfers. Half the time I was saying, "What the Hell is going on?" and I LOVED IT.
f**k, I LOVED this song as a kid in the 90s, the energy is off the charts. I would sit in front of MTV and wait for it and then jump around the room, happy as crap when it came on. My parents were probably right to be worried about me.
Sweet Jesus, haven't heard this since the 90's. What a flashback.
There's probably a good reason why you haven't heard this since the 90's.... some songs stand the test of time....others lived and died the years they were recorded.
The 90's rocked, no matter what age you were, I was in my 20's , all of Seattle rocked, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Screaming Trees ,Nirvana, the Melvins. 90's Alternative was also the best with Morphine, Grant Lee Buffalo, Belly, The Sundays, Enigma, Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Janes Addiction, Rage Against The Machine, and Nine Inch Nails.
Two Swedish guys meet while making a TV commercial, discover a love of music and decide to collaborate. Get one of their girlfriends to sing and you get one of the most memorable songs of the 90's.
That's awesome. I just heard this song on a random Spotify Playlist and it blew my mind how good it was.
Yeah... If you're from Europe. If Americans saw this video, they'd freak - especially millennials. They'd use the word "creepy" in every other sentence to describe it.
Even though this was kind of a one-hit wonder buzz clip, I gotta say, it really holds up after all these years.
Love this song....still sounds as good as did all those years ago
This was from a monthly VHS video Complilation feature from "HuH Magazine" back in 1994. I can tell because the first second and a half of the song "Liar" from (Rollins Band) is clearly recognizable right after this song and video ends. A good friend of mine back in the day was a subscriber to that magazine and he recieved monthly music-video complilations on good ole VHS format. I remember first seeing this video and my friend and me were pretty blown away by the sheer dynamics of this ground-breaking style of sound that resonated so enchantingly from that big ole tv he'd be blaring these videos out of. LOL. Good-Ole Days !
Oh wow Rob I subscribed to that, thats how I learned of this song! I got the CD, only years later did I know of the video, and just now of that adorable gal in it.. I know nothing else of the band but you can tell they totally worship her.. Ill bet she was a real hell-raiser and lot of fun to be friends with
@@caseyh2115 not actually a band this, I think. Just got together for this. The guy in orange is a comedic actor, the girl was Sweden's biggest profile in television for youth
Being a teen and seeing that AVALANCHE of new insanely good music, was THE best time ever. Nothing past that, like the internet rising came even close to those years of finding new bands and summer festivals.
This entire album is AWESOME. Needs to be release in a vinyl deluxe edition.
Wasn't Whale a 1 trick pony? After this track I never heard from them again
@@annemariecandyflip6531 The ENTIRE album this song comes from is awesome. The.Entire.Thing. There were 4 singles from it: 'Hobo Humpin', 'Pay for Me', Kickin' and 'I'll Do Ya'. Just because y'ens miss out on all the best music, 'cuz you're singles queens, radioheads & Greatest Hits compilation dorks, doesn't make anyone a "one trick pony". Neither does it make YOU an actual music fan: It makes you a casual music listener. Vapid & daft when it comes to good music. Actual music fans need not listen to anything you say. Full Stop. (Yah, just sick of people like you chimin' in here at me talking your idiocy.)

It is IMPOSSIBLE for me to enjoy this masterpiece without doing a Beavis and Butthead "YEahhhhhhh!" when the chorus kicks in! 🏆👍🏻
A totally original tune from 1993. I so love this tune. Should have had much more airplay than it received.
i literally have not listed to this song for -- what?! -- 25 years? something about it popped into my head and had to search for it. it's so WEIRD and yet so AWESOME! makes me miss the 90s all over again. ha
i forgot how awesome this chick is man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
love this video
20 years later I still can't quite peg this band's concept, and still find them completely hilarious.
Greatest song ever ❤️
Ugh, I just got chills hearing that chant! It was like being 16 again for a hot second. God, I loved this song.
If you didnt completely lose your head dancing to this in a grungy niteclub sometime during the 1990s, you werent there
Alternative was the last breath for decent FM radio. 1991-1998 RIP.
And this was one of the coolest songs from that era.
Это шедеврально! Когда я услышал эту группу, будучи советским, и за границей(у нас их не крутили) это произвело на меня неизгладимое впечатление. И сейчас прокручиваю их регулярно
An almost forgotten 90s gem. A 120 minutes classic. This brings me back to my teenage youth.
Bjork meets Faith No More, what a glorious noise !
If the club you went to didnt play this on the dance floor it wasnt a good night (and faith no more as well)
Enjoyed every second of this visually provocative video.
Yes those magical early 1990's were so fun!!! I love this song, the general hysteria and the rather simple lyrics....
But you , always came back!
I remember seeing this video and first hearing it in 1994. I was about 9 or 10.
Truth be told, I saw it on Beavis and Butthead when theyd make fun of videos. But then this shit used to play on The Box a lot. For anyone who doesn't remember or weren't alive at the time, The Box was a channel that would constantly scroll the titles of music videos. And each video had a 3 digit code. So for $1.99 on the phone bill, if you were willing to risk your dad whooping your ass, you could call the phone number on the screen, and punch in the 3 digit code to the video you want to watch. And then they played it. You see, there was no internet, or TH-cam, or google, or Apple Music or anything like that. You saw music you liked on MTV, or the box, and you went to the mall to buy the CD.
Somehow this song grew on me because it came on a lot during the later evening in the summer. And sometimes you'd just wait around for your favorite videos to play. I was discriminately a STRICTLY rap kid. And then I started finding out about more broad music styles through the box. Ended up loving this video. Here I am, well into adult hood pulling it up to listen for a bit.
What a song! It was my favorite in 94. Thanks to MTV which was a music channel back then.
I have a horse named Mayo and sometimes Mayo neighs. I tried to eat a watch but it was too time consuming. I’m trying to read a book in braille but I’m not feeling it
1994 spank-bank material. Love this video.

I used rock this cd down in our laundry area on my ship when I was in the navy in the mid 90’s!! Bought this cd, never hearing any songs by Whale! Great memories!!

15 years later, and I STILL love this song...
All these years later and it still kicks ass! This was a heavy album with a huge sound.
Frigging love this one, as well as it's B-side "Eye 842" Was 24 when this came out, and I can recall being quite taken with the lovely and wholesome Ms. Cia Berg. I had really hoped to find a nice young Lady who is also absolutely chaotic and insane. But "want what you may, get what you not"
I remember 30 years ago when they released this. Sitting at a mates place on a Saturday night about 3am and this came on the tv. Monday morning I bought the CD single! 🤣
This isn't even close to the best track on the album! Whole album is gold. I miss these guys so much
I agree. Pay For Me and the last song (don't remember name) are awesome!
There is more energy in this song/clip than there was in all music that followed for the next two decades.
I have been looking for this video for about 20 years!!! One of my all-time favorite songs. Seriously. Thank you Beavis and Butthead.
Probably the most 90's tune ever!
I remember when this was on Beavis and Butthead. I miss the 90s!!!!!!!!!!!
