When I’m using a light color and the darker yarn will show through, I don’t crochet over the darker color. I just carry it along behind the stitches instead. It does leave a length of yarn on the inside of the plushy from where the dark yarn ended to wear it picks up again, but I prefer this to having it show through. I’m just careful when I stuff. I especially love the owl you made! I also usually find free patterns on Instagram, but I agree, that intrusive AI is annoying!
All of the turned out so cute! I’m a TH-cam tutorial girlie through and through. That’s how I learned and I still don’t trust myself enough to make something solely based on a pattern. I still feel like I need someone to show me exactly where things go with amigurumi. There are a lot of tutorials on here where the creator also sells the pattern, or has the pattern on their blog. My next goal is to find one of those, start with the written pattern, and only go to the video if I absolutely have to. Time to get out of my comfort zone! lol Instagram still overwhelms me a bit. (Totally showing my age here, lol.) I’m trying to get on there more and figure things out. Tonight while watching, I’m actually working on a tapestry, which I am doing by a chart and written pattern. I had to study a billion tapestry tutorials first to make sure I knew what I was doing. We shall see how it turns out!
@@jenbrooke403 that’s a great idea for your first written pattern! Good luck with the tapestry. I have failed a couple times at tapestry but I really want to try again!
i did not know digital libraries like that existed!!! Im rlly trying to get back into reading so im definitely gonna take advantage of it PLUS crochet books?? SO SMART!!
@@allycantspell8111 digital books from the library keep me reading! I have a kindle paper white so I read on there a lot. But both Libby and hoopla have audio books as well which I take advantage of. This was a really great video! I loved how you took patterns from 4 different sources and tried them. So fun to watch and making them gifts was a good idea as well. Color changing is something you will get more comfortable with the more you do it. It does make the project look a little different but as you get use to it and find a technique you like you will start to really like it I think. There are many videos on here showing how to do color changes. Thank you for sharing some cute patterns. Blessings 💜💜💜
@@hartofcrochetbysheryl I’m so glad you enjoyed this video! It was one of my favorites to film and edit! I think I need to look up some different methods of carrying the color through. We will see what works best. I still think I’ll mostly rely on sewing on a new piece but I’m always up for learning new methods even after 14 years 🤣
Okkkk that owl!! He’s so cute!! And I love the tiny astronaut and planets idea, a mobile would be adorable. Thanks for the tip about Hoopla! I’m excited to check that out 😄 and I was cracking up about the cat YT search 😂
@@CatCakeCrochet the owl makes me so happy every time I look at him. If I ever do a market again I will make more of him. I actually used to sell planet mobiles on my Etsy shop. I think I need to tweak the design and bring them back soon. I thought that was so funny. Of course TH-cam would show your videos because you have cat in your name lol. TH-cam search is so weird sometimes.
Great video idea I love this! When I do color changes within the row, I don’t float the yarn along every stitch with the contrast color. I color change the first stitch for that color, then go like max 4 stitches then catch the yarn in the 5th st if it calls for a longer stretch of the contrast color. I don’t think I can ever see the darker contrast color when I stuff. Hope that helps!
The owl is for sure favorite! I really love the little feets, do you remember how you made those? My favorite way to get free patterns is through discord, cuz then you have lots of people sharing all sorts of things so you don't have to rely on your own algorithms, plus then you have a built in community of people to ask questions to really easily.
I have no idea how I did the feet lol. I just freehanded them and didn’t write down what I did. I am in a discord group but I have been absent from it for a while. I should check in. Thanks for the reminder!
I use mainly Instagram (but HATE the Meta AI!!!) and You Tube tutorials. When I watch the videos I usually advance the tutorial manually to just read the pattern rather than playing the tutorial in its entirety. I am busy market prepping right now and worked on a purple Milo the Monkey by Traveling Pony Studio. I am working on a blue version at the same time.
I’m confused about the color change problem- I’m not experienced enough to feel comfortable, or even able, to tell you what it is we are doing differently- but I gravitate towards patterns often with color changes and I just don’t have this happen with having one color show up behind another. I believe the technique I use is called jacquard, if that’s any help. I’ll keep watching back here because I’m really interested to know if someone will be able to pinpoint what is happening in the your color changes!
I found that the color won't show through if you carry it every other stitch instead of every stitch. It used to bug me all the time, especially on my tapestries! Hope this helps!
With the hot air balloon, I would have just let it be loose, not crocheted in. Once the stuffing is in you wouldn't know what you did with those threads. I often checkout a library book as a way to see if I want to buy the book or ebook. I also don't use pininterest. I find all it has is pictures, it never leads to the pattern or recipe and I've just given up on them.
I have a very hard time learning how to do this can you try to do a video with maybe regular yarn close up so that total beginner can learn and see the stitches
