People Are Going to Hate War Within After Remix

  • So Blizz didn't exactly make World of Warcraft Remix: Mists of Pandaria the smoothest experience; bugs, balance issues and more have plagued it from the start and many players gameplay look is just looking for whatever the best new bronze farming spot is in Remix.. But it's still great, and it's still going to make The War Within look very small, enclosed and short when the new expansion kicks off the World Soul Saga

Been saying it for like 15years. the thing that made wow popular back in the day was the fact that it was "casual" compared to DAoC, SWG, RS, EQ, etc... Players got it twisted in like Wrath and Cata when they started talking about how 'it use to be harder, now it's casual friendly' nah mate. I played Classic WoW since 2019, I was in almost full BiS every patch, raid logging 6 hours a week. Show me any Mythic raider in retail that got there playing 6 hours a week. You can't.

As someone who's played for 14 years, sometimes raided Mythic and often raided Hard and Normal... How on earth are you getting full BiS? I'm usually lucky to have 1-2. If they even drop, someone else gets them every time. And they usually don't drop. I once saw my BiS fist given away to a shaman who was already wielding his BiS maces. The fist was a downgrade for him. 🤦‍♀️ I'd like to join the magical world you live in? 😂

07:00 I've always been convinced, since TBC came out, that wow should have made better use of older content, not to keep it relevant but to make it an alternative for replayability.
I hope they learn the lesson and make every expansion a remix-like option for leveling alt.

    • @7PlayingWithFire7
      @7PlayingWithFire7 หลายเดือนก่อน

I think remix is an awful idea to make a permanent part of the game. FIrst of all the gems are not newbie friendly. Secondly it is fun when they arent empty. If there are suddenly 9 instances of remix leveling option realities, they will all be empty, or only one will be populated as it is "the fastest" or "best".
But I will assume that you mean just playing through the entire expansion, and doing the raids, and dungeons, etc. I agree that would work really well.
But the whole cloak, and super powerful, and leveling fast, might not work so well. However I have been preaching that WoW needs to do like LOTR has done: Make doing non-end game content worth your time.
Currently if you level an alt, you are wasting your time. If you compare your efforts using an alt to a guy who only plays 1 character: You WILL be behind. No matter what. There is no redeeming quality to leveling besides getting a new character. But LOTR has a special shop where you can spend a unique currency that you get from playing open world content, or rather by leveling a new character. In addition you can jack up the difficulty of the leveling, and get more currency in return, and use these to buy unique cosmetics. The hardest requiring a 5 man party to even be able to pull off regular questing.
So it is a fun challenge, you progress not only your character, but you get a currency like bronze, to buy unique cosmetics. It's brilliant.

People used to complain Cataclysm and MoP ruined the game by "catering to casuals", to the point of Blizzard putting heroic dungeons behind a silver Proving Grounds medal, removing tier sets from LFR, and inventing Pathfinder in WoD. In Legion, they introduced the "systems/borrowed power"- model. While Legion is still praised for its good story telling, the borrowed power system got worse in BfA and especially Shadowlands. That's why people want "casual friendly" content now. Because the last two expansions introduced systems that made more people appreciate the quality of life features they used to despise a decade ago.

I played since vanilla. Every expac people whined about casuals. Every, single, one. Wrath was the most casual it EVER was, and people ADORED it.
Then Cataclysm came, and they amped up the difficulty of dungeons by A LOT. People instantly dropped out. What was the point of being a PuGer who went into a dungeon, struggled 2-3 hours fighting, and then did not get a single drop, and did not get guaranteed loot like you got in TBC and Wrath with the tokens.

Hey, FF14 player here. I don't necessarily disagree with all of this, but there's some important context for the "Endwalker has no content" complaints- A lot of the post-6.0 stuff put out was very geared to solo players and lacked a social element, so it made the game feel dead. Island Sanctuary was all solo stuff, Eureka Orthos didn't change the Deep Dungeon formula much and its biggest achievement is soloing it, and there was no exploration zone like Eureka or Bozja. The relic grind also felt like an afterthought, being just a solo questline and turning in weekly tokens every patch. Endwalker's patches were pretty dull because there wasn't enough MMO to them.
Otherwise I do generally agree that people will probably have their expectations skewed going into new content pretty soon after having a good time in polished up old content

Yeah, I agree with Taliesin. As a very new player to WoW (I had been on and off for many years. But started consistently a year before Dragonflight came out) my first expansion that I experienced when it came out was Dragonflight. Now, the expansion was amazing and great fun but I have to say I could not for the love of god finish a single raid not even in LFR because we didn't have "enough dps" and people would cuss at me or kick me out of raids. The thing is I had spend so many hours playing almost every day and I did have a very decent item level and did some Keystones even but jesus it was never enough for raiding. Despite all the hours spent, I just wanted to enjoy the story of the raid a bit but yeah.
For experienced people maybe it was easier to follow the meta and stuff, but for someone who hasn't played this game for enormous amounts of time it really feels very daunting at times to interact with anything apart from the most basic parts of the game. That resulted into me stopping after Vault of Incarnates because it all felt very unapproachable. The Mists of Pandaria stuff was very fun though. A lot chiller.

The biggest problem is all the cross realm where you rarely ever see the same person again and the button bloat is getting out of hand. They cater everything when it comes to dungeons and raids to the top 1% for the world first but it has just too many things going on during most boss fights that if you don’t have all the weak auras and macros that do most of that stuff for them it makes it difficult for average players

    • @Jenkyllllls

@icy6129 Button bloat only exists on a few classes. The game is quite simply designed around wa's, big wigs, and or dbm. If you aren't using the basic dbm add on you will have a ton of issues. Also, no it's not designed for the 1%, you haven't been using the required add ons so it seems hard. If you hadn't noticed warcraft fails epically at showing incoming mechanics.

Personally i think burnout will be a bigger factor for ppl departing. Players are feasting/gourging themselves in MoP atm. Daily raiding and farming and levelling. When WW comes out they might just need a breather.
Do you think the shorter levelling experience was designed that way so that ALL these MoP could get taken through easily and quickly keeping subscribers busy as a trade off for making a larger amount of new content?

Somebody in your stream chat said they quit wow over Vashj'ir. It was 100% optional. In Cataclysm at level 80 you had a choice between Mount Hyjal and Vashj'ir. You didn't need to do both to reach level 85.

As someone who plays for the story (and to play with the fam), I'm confused and nervous, and hoping you (or someone) can clarify about the amount of story in TWW; I'm hearing that the leveling questline is short, but that there's nearly as much story post-leveling; is TWW light on the amount of story content? (Seems like the opposite of what was promised, which had me excited for TWW, so I think and hope I'm misunderstanding)
If compared to the average first part of the average WoW xpac, would you say the main story campaign (leveling + endgame) is longer, shorter, or about equal in length? Do you figure there will be plenty of significant side quests?
I keep hearing the idea that they don't want to keep us in their underground zones for too long, but I don't like that if it means less focus on story overall; I've been excited for TWW and the Worldsoul Saga since they were announced, please tell me truly that this will be a great story-driven experience

Remix is FAST, you can move quick, you can kill things quick, Fair chunk of the player base are going to cap their player speed (49%) within the event if they are playing daily. War within is going to feel slow if its directly after Remix for those playing up to the end time of it. Its going to feel slow, and empty.

Those older players almost automatically got much more casual on average because the majority of them will now have full-time jobs and/or families and/or other obligations that they didn't have when they were teens or young adults.

This is why Blizzard massively shot themselves in the foot with the previous expansions. There is no fun way to play through the old expansions with any level of challenge, they really really need to sort out timewalking. Now they have AI companions thing down there should be no reason why a player shouldn't be able to spend time in any expansion, playing the story in the intended order with all the dungeons and raids. Even in the current expansion, all storylines are unlocked at the same time. Even if you want to paly the story in order its hard to tell what goes where, it just doesn't make any sense.

It's more than that, even at the start, Mists had a lot more questing zones than you needed to level. For a main it meant plenty of things to do at max level, for alts, it meant a choice of where to level. It's been a while since we have had an expansion with that many zones or that much questing at the start. There was also a lot to do with daily quests even before the expansion hit its first patch. Then there was the farm, the fishing stuff with Anglers etc. For me, it felt a lot more fun as well to play the open world both originally and in remix because there was lot more to do. This is without the later patch stuff.
For Dragonflight when I hit max level it very much a a feeling of "now what". The open world was a few events you did not so often and on long timers, plus not a ton of world quests that reset not very often. I'm concerned that TWW is going to be the same way, and that there isn't going to be so much to do again outside of M+ and raids for the first long while of the expansion.

I agree that the sheer content of questing in MoP was what saved it later when the patches were too long apart. At some point Blizz changed course with this. Maybe it was too much dev time, maybe it was due to player complaints about the reputation grinds, idk.

What you highlight about amount of content could be an issue. I think the other issue is the loss of all the super duper power abilities and going back to playing a normal version of the class. Could make the class feel quite disappointing, I just experienced this when I levelled a troll shadow priest through MOP remix and it was a ton of fun. Then I made a troll shadow priest lvl 60 trial character on retail to do the troll heritage armour quest. It felt very different. I was going to level more specs that I have not played before through MOP but have now decided against that so I can learn the spec without all the whizz bang gem abilities.

I think you have stumbled upon the duality of gamers. Yes, there are those in the community that will continue to complain and cause a Shitshow, obviously. But nonetheless they will continue to play as they always have. The cycle will begin again and again for as long as there is a game to play. However, the quiet ones not aiming to stir the pot will enjoy what they are given or leave without a fuss if the game no longer suits their needs or interests. And should it realign, they will be back as well. It's the ones that don't cause a riot on the Forums that are usually the ones that leave and stay gone. And many times it won't even be due to the game state, life just gets in the way. But with their departure, a new wave of players always seems to find their way to the game as well.

War Within will be content created to be consumed for a year and a half , with each season being 4months and a last one reusing the 3 seasons.
By design they will not let them ravage through it. Whether that is timegating or weekly caps or daily farms is another topic, and the better question to make. How can we make these farms more organic and fun instead of chores

I guess I understand where you're coming from, but also it is a new xpac. If people don't realize how it works by now, then idk what to say. I think anyone who has been around knows that to expect, and anyone who hasn't is going to figure it out quick. As someone who has played since the beginning, I am super excited. Like many, I've been waiting for a lot of lore to be addressed for years and years, and this is our time.
I was one of many that was less than happy with Shadowlands and took an extended break after 9.1. Like others, I cautiously returned about a year ago, and I'm not super satisfied with DF, but I get that it's kind of Blizz getting themselves together, and also trying to build some good will again. They're trying, and that's more than could be said for a while. I am not personally interested in most casual types of content, but I think that it's good that they are more aware that it is a large part of the fan base. They are giving those players some fun things to do that feels valuable and rewarding. I think that is a step in a positive direction. That being said, if there are more casual types of gameplay that are just good fun, I would dabble in them on downtime from my usual activities.
I am hopeful for the Saga, and I hope for us that have been here for a long time, it answers a lot of questions, and brings back some awesome gameplay. For the new players, I hope that they can see what a great game that wow can be, and journey on to make years of memories like myself and many others have.

Hi Tali, love your takes, agree with you and love your bisexual theater kid energy.
My 2 cents about "ranting about casuals, asshole wowhead comment poster"
I always was a "hardcore player" in MY sense.
Not in the way that I did the top skill content, but I've been playing 24/7 for the last 17 years. Wow's basically my life in a way that it's not sad, basically saved me from doing bad stuff as a kid and helped me being a better person I think.
What ppl label "casual" has no meaning, and often just reads as "gurl stuff".
Ppl don't realize how the game became actually harder in group content actually.
Raids where not hard until Pandaria, players where just not good. That is just the truth. I don't bother going higher than 2,8k rio because rank don't matter for me if there are no rewards. I got the leg axe for TRANSMOG because I main holly and never ret outside of solo content, but my skills BACK THEN would have been considered top 0.5% playerbase because raids where not hard and dungeons content was basically storymode until m+ came.
There is just a toxic playerbase that was always there and grows thiner and thiner as the game wins a larger appeal (but they are lounder and lounder because they know they are not wanted anymore). Those ppl yell because now there are transmog options, battlepets and gay characters, that's it. None of their arguments are valid. Mop only had SOO for a YEAR for PVE and THAT'S IT. You had a questchain, a raid, and a boring rep in a patch. Now you have a lot of cosmetics to farm, m+ seasons, LFR for casuals who just want to see the raid AND MM that is actually hard for top raiders.
If some random comes to me arguing this game is for casual with 2k5 rio and no achievment I'd say "what even is your deal here ?". Like if you don't enjoy content with no skill cap and don't tryhard PVE why you complain ? (I don't pvp, so I accept pvp arguments about the content, there is indeed a big issue there).
I think they think the game is for "casual" because they are bad in PVE but think they are good because they are not getting 3 shot by random mobs in open world like in vanilla and they are unabled to enjoy anything.
They are bad in group PVE content, bad at having a good transmog, bad at mount collecting, bad at reading quest and understanding the lore, etc, etc.
Not even scking blizz balls, SL was indeed a joke and we are alowed to expect more from a multimillion dollar compagny and an expensive game, but the loud cringe gamers complains from wowhead are just cringe.

Nah Vashj'ir was great to level through on alts later on. You don't have to stay there! I didn't back in Cata when my main concern was getting to max level. But going through later on and levelling being so fast it didn't matter (years ago...) was chill and I loved going in the u-boat each time!

Dragonflight is the only WoW expansion I have played through consistently without unsubbing. I have loved it so much that when I ran out of stuff to do, I hopped to an alt and did it all again multiple times. Even pugged my way through AotC and Keystone achievements. It's been the most satisfying expansion I have played. Having said that, even I have trouble wanting to play Dragonflight again after playing Pandaria remix... So yes, your fears are well founded and shared by others.

As one of the few who absolutely loves Vashj’ir and the experience of the underwater zone, even I agree the storyline in it was a bit too long. I always felt like they should’ve just used the Abyssal Depths area as a post game content area for revisiting the zone instead of it being part of the zone’s main story.

I thought you were going to talk about, but my issue is, that there's going to be whiplash when getting into TWW. I much prefer all the collection acquisition to how Remix is vs. how it will suddenly feel in TWW. To me the bronze acts as a quasi bad luck protection, and I'm here for it... with the side effect of power gains, gear acquisition, gear level up by doing any content.

For what it's worth, they did slow down the FFXIV patch cadence in Shadowbringers and officially announced it was a (semi)permanent change in Endwalker. That and they didn't do the mid-core kind of grindy style content at all for Endwalker and some of the people who have already done the older content are just bored out of their minds if they are still playing. That said, I'm sure there are former WoW only players that are also making the same complaints.

One thing I’d love to see is the data on player stats. Like casual players, are they the majority of subs? The loud voices and raiders are they those who pay monthly subs with wow tokens so no real $ is actually hitting Blizzards books. How many of them only play for the duration of doing a raid and don’t know the content at all. While casual players play maybe 10-15 hrs a week but consistent.

The other reason also was that the shadowlands exodus made a lot of wow players stop being monogamers (gamers that only play a single game, because playing any other game means they fall behind on their main game), they started trying other games and enjoying it, finding out there are other games, specially games when other games, their content do not expire (i dont mean mmos except for ff14).
About FFXIV, the problem is that a lot of dev time was spend on Endwalker on things that either was not visible to new players (adding duty support to all msq dungeons), didnt much incentive to do so (criterion dungeon) and implementing the ff14 version of WoD's garrisons (Sanctuary Isle), but most important, they focused on content that isolated players from each other, specially coming from shadowbringers with Ishgard Restoration (a server-wide effort to build the ishgard housing district, requiring effort from all players to complete using their gatherer and crafter classes, that was also amazing to lvl up those too) and from Bozja (that is kinda hard to explain).

Since then FF14 exploded in popularity and I found my MMO but if WoW demonstrated a change that benefits casual players I'd probably check it out again.

The game has been made for the current playerbase without thought for the casual or new or returning player in mind, and this has been exacerbated by the meta difficulty creep.

then ALL the content will be released and I'll be allowed to play through it at my own pace (which can be fast or slow as i wish). For me grinding gear through X different seasons just to regrind it with the start of every new season dosen't count as content. it's a chore you have to do just to keep up with nubers increasing to stay able to play the game. I don't see any point in this grinding hamsterwheel and I really don't understand the mindset of people who think this benefits the game (aka contributes to a fun gameplay).

I don't remember anyone complaining WoW is not hardcore enough or too casual in BFA and Shadowlands. We just complained it's systems were absolutely dogshit and we were right all along. Artifact power, conduits, soulash, the maw, covenants, legendaries, etc. All of this we called out and we were 100% right in every single way.
Stop twisting it like it wasn't the case.
btw. I still want more hardcore / hard content in the game but Blizzard just isn't good in designing it. Whenever they are trying to create something hard, they just make it annoying, unfair, not readable enough, rng and shit. Dark Souls difficulty is what we wanted. Not garbage mechanics that are blue in color on a blue ground with trees covering your screen with full party soak mechanics that happen to randomly trigger while quaking explodes and you can't do anything with it. We wanted fair difficulty but we got bullshit.
    Shill.

The term of casual player has been changed. The thing made wow great it the freedom of your character. Now everything is sterile. For example. To me Legion was the breakpoint. I played rpvp as warlock from TBC to Legion. Instead of haste/int standard I was playing stamina/mastery. I could access to tank trinkets and gears with using/utilazing different non-meta talents and glyphs I was unique. I could find my playstyle. Now everyone is a demonhunter. Fck that sht. The community became metric centric. Geared and good players won't ever be around to help. They just boost.
    Pillar warriors and cash grabbers.

Remix is a huge success, in the sense that it is fun and people like it.
gatekeeping casuals is good. The other extreme is also bad. However in your rant, you're conflating the two with absolutism.
Vanilla and TBC are the other end of the spectrum. you are conflating quality of life with challenge.
You can have Quality of Life (premade group, cross realm, polish) with challenge and high skill (lots of buttons, no pruning, utility, game design having faith in the player)
Do not conflate the two. You CAN have both.

From what I can tell, the legacy playerbase in retail is just gone. They've exited. The remaining players are newish, don't have collections, and celebrate getting the rarest items for zero effort. To be fair, if I was a new player I'd love getting rare items for free too. It's clear that Blizz think pandering to new players is the key to their future success - do you agree? i don't think this will happen. because when TWW launches most of the people playing Remix. will be forced to return to SoD and Cataclysm.
And the people who have been playing DF and the like. have ran through mists content on an alt to level. or a plate user to SoO to get tusks. already. The only thing the Remix gives those people is a bunch of recolours of mounts. some neat Cosmetics. and a chance to go bonkers in end game. All of this content was already Readily available for anyone just doing Chromie time. and you could solo the raids once you hit 60 in chromie time anyways.
Its the Classic people who only have a sub. who will lose something when Remix stops. and it are the Classic people who are getting Sweaty and Toxic over this game mode as well.
