Seiko 7019A Service Part 1 Disassembly

  • Here is my first attempt at filming for upload a movement strip, clean & service having been inspired by Mark Lovick of the Watch Repair Channel and his enviable 'manipulation under a camera lens' skills and Michael Bolton of My Retro Watches and his fascinating channel incredible setup, super detailed microscope closeups and neverending Seiko collection, (before even getting started on his others).
    This watch was purchased at a flea market in Hamburg while on holiday there and should contain a 7S26 movement, it has a 7019A in there instead and while I could have swapped out the movement for a 7S26, those being popular and quite common and having a spare or two, I decided it wouldn't be the 'same' watch I purchased as a holiday keepsake and I had intended to service this anyway as I tend to factor in with any second hand watch I buy.
    This first video was filmed on my mobile phone and surprisingly didn't look as bad as i'd anticipated once rendered, the rebuild was filmed on my regular camera after I'd had a chance to play with placement and settings and I now have an even greater respect for anyone working on a movement with a camera lens fighting for access and trying to not block said view along with keeping the movement in view.
    I hope someone finds this useful and you enjoy.
    While I can't imagine doing a lot for upload as it really does increase the time spent on them I hope to film a few of the less commonly seen movements for those interested.
    Please accept my apologies for youtubes butchery of the first 4 minutes of footage which despite selecting 1080p looks like it's shot in 480, at the 4 minute point the quality improves and if this doesn't rectify in the next day or so I may have to re upload.
    I don't know if this is due to shooting on my phone, (as a test run) in 4K so I could crop in for a 1080p view without having it too close or not but the original rendered video looks decent.
    The rebuild is shot using my normal camera and should not look as bad.

      @@spidiq8 Hello! How reliable, durable and accurate is the 7019 movement? Thank you.

      @@alexandrsv2596 Very reliable and durable, accuracy is generally decent, obviously this movement is a very old one now so the conditions and use of an older movement will affect its performance and timekeeping.

      @@spidiq8 Thank you. I have a 1974 Seiko Advan. I decided to give it for service and use it. Still history...50 years of the watch...Thank you again

    I guess at 20:29 escapement wheel got lost somewhere 😅. Thanks for the great job my Actus is on the way to beat again! :)

      Haha yes indeed. It's one of those special stealth escape wheels. This I think was my first attempt at filming working on a watch and I was trying to work around a very close mounted camcorder. It was incredibly awkward and I never even noticed I'd missed that but out in the editing.
      I have a much better setup for recording now though.
      Glad you enjoyed it and good luck with your Seiko.

    Super video n thank you. Where would you rate the 7019 movement to 6119 or 6619. Will appreciate your response.

      They're an excellent movement. The main problem with any vintage Seiko movement is that they're often neglected and badly worn from lack of attention and servicing as they were cheap workaday watches primarily, the rise in popularity has seen more people caring for and restoring older ones.

    I have a Seiko 5 with a 7019 movement that says 17 jewels, and a Seiko 5Actus with a 7019 movement that says 21 jewels. It is possible that the same movement comes with different amount of jewels???

    • @spidiq8
      @spidiq8  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. The 7019 was a 21 jewel movement.
      The likelihood is that the 17 jewel movement is a 7009, many Seiko variants are almost identical in appearance with jewel count differences, because of this it's not uncommon for plates, bridges and oscillating weights to be used for repairs across other models.
      Does it actually say 7019A 17 jewels on the bridge?
      If you could upload a photo of the movements to my messenger I'll take a look.

    Is it possible to purchase new replacement mainsprings for this movement?

    • @spidiq8
      @spidiq8  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely yes. Seiko only offer complete barrel assemblies but you can order generic replacement mainsprings from material houses.

      The 70XX series are no longer made. Depending on the model they're between £20 to £50 second hand on eBay.
