I remember when this first aired in the fall of 1984 on Showtime and lasted a few seasons, but the first season was the funniest. The first tv series featuring "gay characters" too hot for network tv, but made it to cable & was pretty daring for it's time. This was the only show growing up that finally ackowleded more than one gay character on television without neither one of them getting sick or killed by the end of it's 5 year run. Thanks for posting. Brings back memories! (:>)
Agreed - unfortunately, Brothers was originally broadcast on Showtime, which meant it wasn't eligible for Emmys at the time. The cable equivalent was called the CableACE Awards. Philip Charles MacKenzie did win the Best Actor CableACE Award in 1985 for his work on Brothers, so at least his brilliance at playing Donald did not go unrecognized.
I remember being 8, and I had "heard" of 'BROTHERS' when I would just wait around Showtime for 'FAERIE TALE THEATRE' to begin. This takes me back. I love watching these episodes, thank you!
Yep, that was her. Robin's worked pretty consistently since the mid 70s, guesting on dozens of TV shows including Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Six Feet Under, Sliders, Sabrina The Teenage Witch, Boston Legal, Bones, etc. One of the hard-working under-recognized actresses in the business.
I don't know that CBS was ever involved. I'm not sure of the journey the show took before it was broadcast, but Brothers was first shown on the pay channel Showtime, from 1984 - 1989. After the initial run, it was sold into syndication and ran briefly on independent stations, but I don't think it has aired anywhere since the early 90s.
Too bad that the first and second parts of the 1st episode were blocked by TH-cam. Maybe if you uploaded the full episode with the beginning credits edited out would help from having it blocked?
I'm not sure what makes you think this is a syndication episode, is there something you recall from this episode that you think was cut? The syndication episodes usually run about 21 to 22 minutes without commercials, whereas the original episodes average 24 to 26 minutes. The three parts of this one add up to 25 minutes, and come from a tape of episodes from the original run. If it is a syndication episode, I'll label it as one like I did with the other syndication episodes I've uploaded.

Philip Charles MacKenzie deserved an Emmy. He's an amazing actor!

I hate that stereotype of the "flamboyant gay man."
