Brilliant car, my daughter’s first car in fact. Soon after she bought it (old and somewhat rusty) the UK had a big freeze-up. On a long trip with my wife the motorway hard shoulder was littered with ‘more modern’ cars with the owners forced to stop to clean their windscreens by hand as their washers had frozen up. The Favorit had its washers hidden in the ‘warm’ under the bonnet-lip out of the cold airstream so my daughter and my wife sailed onwards with no problems, perfectly able to see. We have fond memories of that car! Les in UK 🇬🇧

God, that starter noise brings back memories - my Dad had an 120L Estelle 1 and a later 130LSE Estelle 2 and I briefly had a 120L5. That colour is known as Vauxhall Racing Pink here in as the propensity of all flat red Vauxhalls doing that... Though my old Citroen BX did the same thing... LOL

Your faded red flower, called skramle is really a piece of history, when I first visited Denmark in the mid-seventies, people drove old British small cars and Jaguars, along with Volvo 140 and PV 544 series. As a boy I felt moved into a different world of the past that I only knew from movies. Then came a time where most people drove Peugeot, then Toyota. This summer at crossing the border until reaching Thy, there were nothing but Tesla models to be seen on the road. It made me miss my good old anachronistic and yet modern, charming Denmark. Thats why I love to watch your channel, brings back the fine humour of the Danes along with your accent, the old cars, and the roads you are taking them for a spin (jeg elsker dine Margarite Ruten). Sorry for being a little nostalgic, but we all have our reasons for doing the things we do. Good luck with your channel and many more thriving ideas for the future. Try to make the shows a little longer...16 minutes is a little short imho.

The fact that you know Hub Nut makes me very happy. It fits with my "moderate" car TH-cam universe featuring you, the nut, Ageing Wheels and Two Stroke Turbo.
I do appreciate TH-cam channels where guys try to rescue drowned hypercars and give them several million horsepower, but I love these underappreciated gems that are the backbone of daily motoring.

We had so many of these in DK.
While many people may not consider these a “Favorit(e)”, they actually were here, due to our insanely high registration tax of 180 percent, which meant that even small differences in “factory” price, would amount to 3x before the car could be driven off the dealer lot.
Just found my trusty old yearbook from 1994, and the list price for a basic Favorit 135 LX was DKK 87.996, while a basic 1.3 ltr. 5-door Corolla (which you compare it to in the video) was DKK 152.994.
Many people here happily lived with its shortcomings, to save that ~70 pct. premium.
My impression is that many of them were eaten by rust, long before the drivetrain would have given up.

When on holiday in Prague this year, I did take the opportunity to visit the Ṣ̌today museum.
They have a pretty long and storied history starting with Laurin and Klement and have produced some pretty decent cars over the years despite the communist period.
Even today despite building cars based on VW architecture, they have retained some of their independence and often produce cars that are better than the VW's they are based on.

First favorit was made from 1987. The design of the car was made by bertone. But this model is a facelift. It has another door covers inside another instrument cluster. And It is from VW era of Škoda. First models have some components from Fiat. For example wheels have 98x4. This has 100x4 as vw. And the injection is vw too. And favorit was always with 1,3 engine. And the engine is based on engine from MB1000 from 60’ 😂

Good video, lots of memories for me. In the late 1980s and early 1990s a work collegue bought the cheapest family new cars he could, a series of rear engined Skoda Estelles and then a Favorit in light green, the paint went matt like your red one. He never ever washed it. For a few years we car shared commuting about 80 miles aday. I remember the carpet was made from pan scrubber like material and the front passenger foot well slowly filed up with various interior trim that fell or snapped off. It was however pretty reliable for a well used family hack. The only time I remember it having a problem was the fuel tank or fuel pipes rusted and emptied the petrol out all over works car park. Eventually he traded it in for a Peugeot Diesel.

I knew a guy who bought one of these, in white with all the spoilers you could order for it (may have been a demo), and owned it for at least 8 years (we lost connection at that time). It was absolutely faultless in that time period, only requiring service and maintenance. ..and yeah, the engine does sound rough, but it’s a decently comfortable car for 80km/t or less, if you can deal with how much it leans in the bends. I actually liked it.

This one is an LXi meaning it's the base trim level with the most powerful 50kW (67hp) engine, it's also a Special Line which was a limited run model offered towards the end of production in mid 1994 with some extra goodies such as that center console or the side moldings on the doors. When you do the odometer fix there are two scenarios: either the plastic wheel is split and it's an easy fix or the metal wheel that transmits the movement between the main odometer and the odometer trip is slipping on the shaft. The latter is harder to fix but HubNut has a video on that, or you can glue it with some stronger adhesive.

As far as I remember, Porsche among others helped develop the engine (1289 cm3) in the Skoda Favorit. Volkswagen became a co-owner of Skoda from 1994 and took over the business completely in 2000. Incidentally, it was Bertone who designed the Favorit (exterior).

    • @frglee
      @frglee 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

I believe that the cylinder chambers were modified by Ricardo Consulting, a British company, to get the very best out of the then rather elderly (but perfectly decent) Skoda engine. Porsche improved the engine mountings and front suspension. So, with a Bertone design, there was quite a bit of international collaboration for the Favorit!
I had the GLXi Estate in the 90s and took it all over Europe for work year after year. A very reliable, economical and pleasant car to drive. I had two Felicia Estates after it, much the same car, but Skoda were still tinkering with the design right up until the end - my 1999 Felicia Magic had engine braces/struts which greatly improved the handling.

Skoda was always good at building factory rally cars. First the rear engined cars (130 rapid coupe) but later also this Favorit and the facelift Felicia. Skoda got many class wins with these cars. Later they also made WRC cars like the Octavia and Fabia ( not very succesful as WRC cars but the later lower rally class Fabia's were succesful again.

This era for me was peak car ( I am that many years old ) - supermini's, family cars and big cars were all different and had their appeal but more importantly its the fact that in every level there was a new car to suit your pocket be it a Lada Riva, a Favorit or say an Escort or a Renault 19

Reliable car, a bit wallowy to drive

We had red 94 estate about the same time it was a great car it was bought from the local Skoda dealership as a second car but ended up staying with us for nearly 15 years. It was involved in a head on crash with a MK2 Astra GTi, they wrote the Astra off but repaired the Skoda and repainted better than new we couldn't believe it. We lost the immobilizer key but bypassed quite easily the thing wouldn't die. By the mid 2000s the Skoda UK were discounting parts by up to 90% so I bought just about anything on offer. Ended up selling it to someone from Scarborough with all the spare parts only because we had two many cars although it never really worked out cause we have 7 now.
