    I currently have an MFJ end fed - 10 through 80 metres. 80 metres is a bit narrow, but with a small ldj tuner it works quite well. I currently have a short fibreglass pole (about 20 feet ) and run to the house. The height compromises the antenna and I plan on replacing the mast with a fourty foot spider beam in the spring.
    Thanks for yet another well done and interesting video.

    The smaller and simpler antenna with a good performance is more impressive for me compared to a elaborate set up that is expected to perform. I once tuned up a metal window frame out of desperation in a tower block at 120ft asl and made copies into Europe on 10m, the front to back of the metal framed building was off the scale when I put up a dipole there.

    I recently ran a Par EndFedz 20m (monoband) end-fed up a 12m Spiderbeam pole and ran SSB barefoot. With the matching unit about 2-3 ft above the ground, and then running the feedline horizontally along the ground, to the shack (< 10 ft away, in a houseboat rental) I managed 11,800 km DX on 100W (Ontario to Kenya), and also Japan and China on 80W. The SFI was low 90s, I'm sure it helped. I wonder if better take-off angles from the vertical also helped, and/or was it the freshwater ground plane nearby). My point is that since the pole is easily deployed, and the performance is very good, these are great options for limited space hams, and low visual impact, and low cost. Totally recommend these configurations to those with limitations.

      Many thabks. Yes I ha e had similar mila great results. Even shorter on 17m where I have had some good. DX. 73 Peter

    I have a spider beam pole and I use hose clamps you call them jubilee clips with plastic tube on them to hold the joints so the sections don’t collapse.
    Just put them just above the joint not on it or the fiberglass may fracture.

    If you put eyelet in with something like gorilla glue and leave it to set horizontally- the glue will expand and hopefully put less pressure at one point- failing that rod end tip and eyelet.
    Permanently will need more than a spade and multiple guy points, 3-4 foot apart to restrain and avoid wind damage. (I found out the hard way)
    Thanks for the video

    I wouldn't recommend that screw eye sticking out like that. Too large a thread will crack that top section. Leaving it sticking out so much risks putting torque on it and again breaking it.
    Instead, recommend getting a smaller one that fits fully inti the top. Use hot glue if you worry about it coming out. Much lest risk of breaking.
    Random end fed on fiberglass pole is my favorite POTA setup for three years now, couple hundred activations this way.

      I have a 5 band version configured as a sloper, high point about 12-13 meters above ground. I also have a couple of mono-band EFHW antennas from the German company lambdahalbe. They are cheap, have no match box, but have a window line stub on which you can ajust the SWR to any given situation. I hang the 20, 15, 11 (CB) and 10 meter antennas vertically from a fiberglass telescope mast. They seem to work ok.

      @@mumi009 Sounds like a good setup. I am a big fan of the EFHW for both performance and ease of use. In the field, I use a fiberglass SOTA pole and an arborist throw line to the nearest tree and it always seems to work.

    hi just wonder please if you could help me i see you a M0CVO LW-10 Long Wire Antenna . i have a simular one ht lw40, i see a yoytube video a gent put the wire around the roof . can this be done and where does the box go. do you fix it to the hightest spot . or ground level please . i wonder be grate full for you help please thank you , i have a small garden 30ft by 40ft back

    • @watersstanton
      @watersstanton  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      John, an antenna run around the roof will have its resonance changed. It really should be out in the open. The matching transformer is always at the feed end of the antenna and can be at ground level or in the air. 73s Peter

    Does sag of the antenna affect the end fed performance?

    • @watersstanton
      @watersstanton  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there,
      Not much. After all, most dipoles sage in the middle. But as the centre is the part that radiates most, it is best to try and get it as high as possible. Having said that, don't worry too much about any sag. 73s Peter.

    No earth lead? can you put a current meter on the coax and measure how much RF is on the coax braid?

    • @o00scorpion00o
      @o00scorpion00o 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's negligible current on these end feds however a good earth is recommended because of static but also allows the rf energy to flow further down the wire, there's a youtube video explaining it, Steve Ellington I think he's called he has these EFHW from myantennas.com and loads of people including myself highly recommend them.
      I got to the U.K no problem from Ireland on 5 watts with Xiegu X5105 on 80 meters and even got complimented on the signal from only 5 watts, I also got to Slovenia on 20 meters last night with the same rig on 5 watts. They are fantastic, resonant on multiple bands, I only need a tuner on the higher end of 80 meters to flatten out the SWR but if you request Danny of My antennas he can lower the swr on the higher portion of the band.
      The Antenna is obviously very efficient and much better than using the likes of a G5RV which needs a tuner for most bands but the antenna is not efficient, my EFHW 8010 is resonant on several bands.
      I got to the very North of Norway on an old Yaesy FT-77 with about 80 watts and he was very impressed because he said he rarely hears people this far down on 80 meters, I live in Ireland. So the antenna is obviously working very well, I only have my license since the 20th May so still trying it out.
      The Antenna in the video is the EFHW 4010.
      The magic seems to be in the transformer which is a 48:1 UnUn and not the normal 9:1 you would find in a normal end fed but this will require radials the my antennas EFHW do not and the normal 9:1 end fed is not a multiband antenna meaning it's a lot less efficient.
      Danny from myantennas worked for Cushcraft so he knows what he's doing.
      I also do not have my station Grounded apart from Normal electrical earth for the house mains I see little point. The Antenna is grounded via the ground terminal on the transformer box. I have no issues with RF.
