En esta lección del mes pasado, hubo tres versiones del verbo "haber" explicadas por la profesora Brenda. Puedes usar el verbo "hay" en tiempo presente. Por ejemplo; Hay al menos tres versiones del verbo haber. El verbo "había" puede usarse para describir cosas que existieron en el pasado, pero nunca puede describir eventos que ocurrieron en el pasado. Por ejemplo; Ayer, al supermercado había manzanas frescas y muchas otras frutas. El verbo "hubo" se puede utilizar para describir acciones en el pasado que ocurrieron una vez. Por ejemplo; La semana pasada hubo un accidente del carro muy cerca de mi casa. Ahora creo que entiendo esta lección después la tercera vez que la vi! No sé por qué fue tan difícil para mí.

@@butlermj76 Hi Matt. I actually did not remember writing this when I first read it. It did take 3 times for me to understand it, but now it seems much more simple. I joined the Hola Spanish platform last September and I love it! Brenda and her team are great!

Hubo / Había momentos en los que teníamos que vender algo de comida?. Ambas pueden ser correctas, pero hay que quitar el "antes".
Nunca pensamos que tendríamos este problema.

¡Hola Donna! En ese caso 'hubiera' está en el pasado del subjuntivo y lo podemos usar, por ejemplo, con situaciones hipotéticas de tercer grado (con el condicional): por ejemplo: si hubiera estudiado más, habría/hubiera aprobado el examen (if I had studied more, I would have passed the exam).

Can somebody tell me.. If I have to say.. "There was a reference to the war in the story. " What should I use.. Hubo o había and if hubo so then why.. And if había so why??. I'm bit confused
does it move the story or is it background? that is the question you need to ask yourself.
Preterite moves the story and imperfect sets the background.

Hola Brienda, esta explicacio'n esta' muy buena. Sin embargo, todavi'a tengo problemas con algunos puntos ma's finos. Cuando dijiste, "hubo sol", yo habri'a dicho "habi'a sol" porque me parecio' que estabas describiendo la escena, en lugar de contar sobre un evento. Yo se' que no es correcto, pero todavi'a no comprendo porque...
