  • These commercials aired on KTTV on December 20th, 1987
    1. White Shoulders by Evyan
    2. Promo for "The 99th Annual Tournament of Roses Parade"
    3. "From All Of Us To All Of You" Intro (This was a Disney Christmas anthology show originally from 1958 with wraparound host segments featuring Jiminy Cricket. The cartoon clips shown were updated and rotated every few years to show previews of current and upcoming animated films. While no longer shown in the U.S. it has become a holiday tradition in many Nordic countries, with 40% of all Swedes watching it on Christmas Eve according to some polls. I grew up watching a slightly edited version of this special released on home video under the title "Jiminy Cricket's Christmas": archive.org/details/747AS)
    4. "The Wonderful World Of Disney" Commercial Bumper
    5. Faberge Brut 33 Gift Set at Thrifty
    6. Pepsi (With Michael Jackson)
    7. Hickory Farms
    8. Fabulous Fakes Perfume
    9. Festival On Ice
    10. Promo for "DuckTales"
    11. Ortega Salsa
    12. C&R
    13. Diet Pepsi (A longer version of this ad was shown at the beginning of the home video release of "Top Gun" and was likely made primarily for that purpose)
    14. Standard Shoes
    15. Diet Pepsi (With Michael J. Fox)
    16. Dodge
    17. NyQuil
    18. Miller's Outpost (Man, the sheer number of mullets in this ad is out of control)
    19. Walt Disney's World On Ice Starring Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs (1987 was the 50th anniversary of Snow White and it had been re-released to theaters that summer as well)
    20. Promo for "Son Of Paleface" (What a weird marathon to have around Christmas...featuring a bunch of old Bob Hope movies that have very little to do with the holiday)
    21. Thrifty
    22. Benylin
    23. Pepsi (I'm kind of surprised this one didn't become a perennial holiday commercial such as the McDonald's Ice Skating ad or the Christmas 7up ads, as it is pretty well made and timeless)
    24. Toyota
    25. Canada Dry
    26. NyQuil
    27. Thrifty
    28. Naugles (This southern California based chain later merged with Del Taco in 1988. By 1994 all Naugles locations had been converted to Del Tacos)
    29. Swatch Watch
    30. "The Wonderful World Of Disney" End Credits
    31. Promo for "The Seven Little Foys" and "The Lemon Drop Kid" (The plot of the "The Lemon Drop Kid" DOES actually involve Christmas, so I guess that one works)
    32. Knott's Merry Farm (Providing So Cal kids with the only snow they'll ever see without taking a trip up to Lake Arrowhead)
    33. Pepsi (With Michael Jackson)
    34. Miller's Outpost (Partial. Sorry it cuts out before we got to see MORE bad 80's hairstyles)

I want to meet the ad executive at Benylin who said, “You know, you don’t see many mimes on TV…”

Mimes are creepy. That commercial was nightmare fuel.

The Swatch commercial is the 80s in a nutshell in 30 seconds and I’m all for it.

That last Pepsi commercial with Jackson…I guess Michael needed better security if a kid could just walk in there…

This was a great set of commercials from KTTV Los Angeles. Seeing those Thrifty's commercials really takes me back to when it was a drug store that served their famous ice cream. That same ice cream can be found at Rite Aid today.

One thing Pepsi has over Coca Cola is celebrity endorsements. Pepsi was crushing it in the 80s and 90s, my favorite was the Cindy Crawford ad I believe was a super bowl commercial but may be wrong.
I know they recently updated their logo and it's way better than the old one they had before but I wish they would've gone back to that 90s design 😢

That Grilled Shrimp Fajita looked delicious. Especially for $3.99 ($11.41 in 2023 dollars).

I agree with your assessment of the Pepsi/kid/bunny ad. The little boy and the rabbit were very cute. The vibe reminds me a bit of the “Velveteen Rabbit” or “The Toy.”

I went and saw that snow white on ice and I went to Knotts and hurt my hands on a sledding area they had. I was 6.

3:54 - Changing Webby away from sickening cuteness was the smartest thing the DuckTales reboot did.

I love the 80s so much; however, I am unsure if I would want to live in a world without cherry NyQuil (notice they said new!). The green stuff looks (and probably tastes) vile.

Hickory Farms- Interesting idea for the company to have a conveyor belt that goes around the world in this commercial. I bet it would be very useful in real life.
    15. Diet Pepsi- Michael J. Fox looks so much like a grown up version of Marty McFly (from the Back To The Future movies) that, I almost expected him to use a hover board to retrieve the Diet Pepsi for his lady friend.

In the shoe commercial, is that Johnny Haymer, AKA Sgt. azalea from MASH?

Anyone else think "The Lemon Drop Kid" sounds like a bad Japanese wrestling gimmick?
