@@oliscurra Mine is similar to yours. My M10R. I have a Sony A7rIV also which produces incredible images. But with the M10 I feel like I am making images, with the Sony I feel like I am taking images
Mine was the M4 / 35 Summicron V4 that I foolishly sold a decade ago. Take anywhere, fully manual, updated film rewind lever, vs M3/2, rangefinder with 28mm framelines, always reliable - everything I needed, nothing I didn't. Sony (A6000/A6500/A7RII) was my interim 'fix' but I loathed the UI and felt detached from the results. The Q2 Monochrom finally got me back into the fold at the end of last year, and I love its conveniences and its ability to see in the dark... but the M system has had a relentless tug on my photographer heartstrings. No surprise I guess that I bought the most M4-like digital I could 6 weeks ago - the silver M10-P, along with the 50 Summilux ASPH and 28 Elmarit ASPH
@@oliscurra I thought I was done with film. I donated my V35 enlarger and full darkroom setup a few years ago. But your Tuscany video has me thinking about an MP even though the shutter speed dial rotates the opposite direction
Nick, thank you sincerely for your kind words. It is lovely to read. 🙂 Although there are times when I like my work and other times when I can't stand it and think of what an amateur I still am after 17 years of photography.
A month after buying my M10-P, I broke my right hand. While it heals I'm learning what I can online. Yours is the most comprehensive take on the camera I've seen anywhere, thank you. I can't wait to shed the cast so I can get out there again
@@oliscurra End of the month. I can just about cradle it and use Live View. It's awkward to use my thumb to release the shutter. Necessity is the mother of invention
THANKS a lot for that magnification buton tweak for the bulb function. I've had my M10 for 2 years and recently switched to the M10-p and didn't have a clue :D It will get in handy these darker month of the year :D
Whenever you’re on the fence for a pre-owned digital Leica M, the M10-P and the M10-R are perhaps the best options out there. Quite modern, but with all the classic M benefits. Sure, the M11 has some nice improvements, but generally, I’m so happy with my M10-R and M7, that I’m not considering an M11 yet.
I was on Minolta SRT 101 from 1969 to 1999, then I bought my first Leica, a R6.2. After trying some digital cameras from different makes I choose a Leica Digilux 2, which I still own and use. The next step was a M8, and now I've a M240 with a 50 mm Lux glued on. The perfect set up for a press photographer. That's my 'Gold Standard' for sure. Instead of a 28 mm Lux I've a Q and for long tele lenses I've a Lumix GX8. The EVF is very handy on the M240 if I shoot from a low angle, or I use R-lenses. Keep on rolling!
I'm curious about the M240. I've never used it and I wonder if it is more similar to the M8/M9 in terms of the dng it produces. How do you feel the M8 & the M240 compare to one another specifically comparing untouched raw files to one another.
@@oliscurra M8 vs. M240 is like day'n'night. The M240 files are more rich. I haven't had a M9 because I avoided it due to the corrosions problems on the sensor. But I do not pay much attention to the files, because press photos are not subject too much photo shopping. If you want a M240, go for the M240P due to the larger buffer and ISO 6400 instead of 3200.
Olivier, Greetings from Okinawa, Japan. I completely by chance happened upon this video and it instantly became the highlight of my day - at least as that relates to photography. Now don’t think me a blasphemer but I’ve just agreed to trade my Leica M10 and (breathe) my Leica M7 along with some other small accessories in order to trade up for either the Leica M10-R OR the Leica M10-P Reporter. I’m already locked into the M10 M Leitz Wetzler LE through a pre-order. And I’ve been waffling back and forth over having two high res digital bodies. I LOVE B&W imagery so the monochrom is a no brainer for me. And paying a $1000 dollars more for a P with nothing more than a savvy paint job doesn’t feel intelligent. But photography for isn’t about intelligence in the first place. Photography for me is about passion. And all things considered, it’s an exceptionally good paint job. I loved this video and I enjoyed your thoughts about the P. So thank you for this passionate endorsement of the P and please share your thoughts as to which body you might pursue. And I already have GREAT glass. APO 50, 75, & 90. And the Lux 28 1.4. Thank you, Chaps PS I’m a military Chaplain and Educator. Photography is my passion and escape. Leica and rangefinder shooting is my joy. Be Blessed,
Hey Chaps, nice to read you again. We've written before on my previous videos. 🙂 First of all, a moment of silence for the M7 trade-in "--------". But hey, you gotta do, what you gotta do. Very cool on the M10 M. I'd love to hear your thoughts on that when you get it. BW is the most honest form of photography in terms of edit for me. I miss shooting BW film. So please remember to come back here once you've got it and let me know, what you think of it. 🙂 Here are my thoughts in brief: 1. I downloaded a few M10-R dng's to test them out and when I slap my presets on them, they look exactly like I've come to expect from my M10-P. 2. When I decided for silver, I was deciding on a paint job between the same camera. Here of course the reporter paint job has you buying a different camera. 3. The immediate things I noticed in the samples, are are my fans kicking in a little bit on my Macbook, largely (no pun intended) due to the increased file size. Which can take a toll on your storage situation, but this is something we as photographers will just have to live with forever... 4.a With increased file size you get double the resolution as well. I think 24MP is more than adequate. Even if I have to crop by 50%, specifically because I don't need the image to be perfect. In fact I look for the rough, the imperfections. In film that meant grain and dust in digital it means less resolution, more digital noise... 4.b That being said, I don't mind the extra 26MP either. I've certainly enjoyed it on my Fuji GFX50R, although that sensor can't be compared fairly. 5. The only area you'd have to maybe test some samples yourself are in high iso situations. More megapixels generally results in more noise. If that doesn't bother, then you can stop right here. For me, I don't care about noise. In fact, I welcome it. If it were me, even though that green does look awesome, I'd go with the M10-R. 🙂
@@oliscurra - Olivier, you’re awesome and I really appreciate and value your thoughts and opinion. I will make a note reminding myself to get back to you wrt my thoughts and experiences with the M10 M. Now given that the bulk of my glass is f2 vs the faster 1.4, the lowlight capability of the new sensor isn’t lost on me at all. And based on my trade in value, an additional $800 scores me the R. But in addition to loving rangefinder shooting, I also love that -for me- I don’t buy Leica and lease it. The resale value is unlike any ecosystem that I’ve over owned. Leica is an investment. So while the R has gained ground because of your shared insights; the 450 LE copies of that Reporter still has my attention. Technology is ever in motion but for Leica connoisseurs I think that maybe this Reporter be the ‘flavor’ choice moving down the road. And dang, but that’s a BEAUTIFUL paint job! Almost hypnotic! Be Blessed,😇
And Olivier, one more fun note. You’re right of course that the 10R sensor can’t compare to the GFX 50R. No way. But!!! I bet you dollars to donuts that your M7 has an equal to potentially higher resale value than the GFX 50R. And it wouldn’t even be close with a modern digital M.😇
Great and timely video, Olivier! I, too, have an M9 and just recently ordered a silver M10-P myself after deciding between it and an M10-R. I ended up getting the P because, from what I can tell, the only real significant difference between it and the R is the 40mp sensor. I was just drawn to the aesthetic of the P and was willing to give up the higher resolution because I can use my Q2 for that. Great points and am now very excited for my M10-P to arrive. Subscribed. Cheers, Martin
I am certain you will enjoy the camera quite a bit Martin. Truth be told it is probably one of the most well designed digital cameras ever made… cheers, Olivier. PS which lens do you see sitting on the camera mostly?
@@oliscurra I love my 50mm Summicron so that's what on my M's most of the time. Would love to try that Noctilux, though. What lens do you mostly use on your M10-P?
Ah, so two things. 1. I sold my M10-P, in lieu of the SL2-S. I needed to have high quality video in a lot of situations, where I couldn’t take my Sony A7SIII (my main video cam) with me. I’ve got a pretty in depth review of the SL2-S and another one of the kickass black and whites it shoots on my channel. Still stand behind what I said, M10-P best designed digital camera I’ve used. 2. I just double-checked my stats. Third most used lens: 21 mm 1.8 Second most: 35mm summi First most: 50mm Nocti Surprised by that actually. Was expecting the 35 to be on top but the nocti edged it out by faaar. More than twice as many photos. 🤔
@@oliscurra I'm just getting into Leica. I've been a Sony shooter for a while now and I still use my A1 for video and action photos. I got into Leica for my personal work. I thought about the SL2-S but I've got too much invested in my A1 to make that switch and there doesn't seem to be much to differentiate the SL2-S IMO. I'm planning to get a 35mm for my Ms and, if I can swing it, a fast 50mm also.
I have watched many TH-cam channels and catch myself thinking - how does this channel have so many subscribers. Yours is the only one I watch and think - How has Olivier got so few subscribers, your content is great! Do you ever share/sell your presets, I love the colors in your digital photos, seem very punchy, so I assume from a preset. I like using presets for the same reasons you mention, kinda snapshot photos etc. Great Video!
Thank you very much for the kind words Jonathan. I really appreciate that. I guess everyone starts somewhere and to be honest, I mull every single video over so many times. I think I suffer from sever imposter syndrome. 😐 Either way there will be more content coming soon. I've received a few questions about my presets so I will certainly be referring to them more in future as well as how I edit. 🙂
Great vid. So much of photography for me is how much fun I have taking pics w the camera. For that, nothing beats Leica Ms. I have the SL2, but to be honest it doesn’t offer me more than my canon or Fuji does. My M9 is pure magic.
At the time of filming this, (or actually the first edit, not the one I ended up posting), I had the SL2-S for a bit of a test shoot. I love the viewfinder, I love that it can film, it's super heavy and yes it's UX and it's body doesn't share the same charm that the M's do. You mention the M9 & magic in the same sentence and rightfully so. Still today, the best sensor Leica has ever put in a camera. Hands down. My goodness, what I would give, for the modern capabilities of the M10P (or R), with the viewfinder res of the SL2 (or S) and the M9 sensor. Absolute magic. What do you use the SL2 for?
@@oliscurra update- just sold the sl2 and now have a Fuji GFX 100s. Loving it so far. That, with My everyday carry M9 and I’m all set. (U till the M11??)
Thank you very much Markus. That's very nice of you to say. Just out of curiosity, do you mean more the edit, or the actual shooting and composing itself? 🙂
@@oliscurra Your video comes with some great images. Like your framing, the dynamic in your images. Would love to learn how you compose und shoot them. Thxs.
I'd be interested in hearing more about the Zeiss Sonnar. I already have two 50mm, a Leica and a Voigtlander so I don't need it but I've always been interested in how it renders the more classic look.
And right you are. It's classic look is very distinct. Especially when shooting it on film. It's like a multiplier. I've got the sonnar on my Leica M10-P and am shooting it with the intents of putting up a video soon. Which of the two 50's do you prefer?
Great video Olivier! You capture what makes some of us love photography, and our cameras' role in that. Curious if you ever play with the 10-R and whether you've found any reason to favourite it or the P?
I am using a leather strap from Luigi. Google Luigi cases and you will find him. Fantastic straps for the M cameras. For my SL2-S (which is significantly heavier I use a peak design).
Wonderful video.... I'm a Fuji X100V and X-Pro3 shooter and I love the images they produce and the dials are great, but I have been wanting to try a Leica range finder for sometime now... Thanks....
Two cameras I’d love to shoot once. I’ve owned every x100 except for the t & v and they are such fun cameras. The X-Pro2 is also a cool camera. Which Leica are you looking at getting?
@@oliscurra As the prices for a Leica anything are high, I was looking at the first digital Leica the M8 as my entry into range finders. I use manual TTArtisan lenses on my Fujifilm cameras and found they make them for Leica also.
I recently got a Leica M11; and I am so disappointed in that camera. It's funny because for the past few weeks I've been thinking of sending the M11 back and trade it in for the older M10-p. I'm glad I stumbled upon this video. It made my decision easy. I'll be trading my M11 for the M10-P. New does not always mean better. I also found out that I don't need all the pixels in the M11. 24mp is more than enough for me.
@@oliscurra Most pictures I've taken with the M11 have a Magenta cast to them. Sure, I can snap a gray card before shooting and or fix the cast in LR, but that is not the least of it; the M11 color science does not look as gorgeous as my M-P 240. I have to work extra hard in LR to just get it to a good starting point. Maybe it is just me, but I just don't see that Leica magic I get on my SL2-s or on my M-P 240 out of my RAW files of M11. I hope maybe a firmware update might fix the color cast issue....
Oh really? I am surprised to be honest. I would've expected a relatively neutral / clean look from the M11. If you're already shooting the SL2-S, you might be disappointed with the M10-P. Definitely wouldn't buy it without testing it first. It's a great camera, especially for when you really nail the lighting in camera. But editing wise, the BSI sensor of the SL2-S is really super impressive. I prefer it to the M10-P to be honest.
@@oliscurra Thanks Oli. That's good to know, I think for now, I'll be Keeping the M11. I might have been to harsh on my evaluation of the M11 since I had so much high hopes; for those reading this, it is a great camera (the M11). I just suppose I might have had such high and very very very high expectation for the M11 (and that's always a recipe for let down). The color cast issue on the M11, after all can be corrected in LR and etc, and perhaps with a firmware update hopefully.
I enjoyed watching your video from start to finish. Thank you for shooting it & sharing it with us. One thing I am curious about is that your fondness of the M7 & the experience of shooting with a film camera shone through, so did you contemplate going for an M10-D? I don't own a Leica camera (yet), but I have been looking at many videos such as yours, & the thing I am struggling with, is 'which' M10 I'd want to go with. I can make a case for M10, M10-P, M10-D or M10-R! My logic goes something like this: M10: I can get a used one from around £3.5k (almost affordable!), its 'louder' shutter is still quiet enough, & I don't think I'd miss a touch screen M10-P: It has the nice engraving on the top plate(!) M10-D: It has the nice engraving on the top plate too, plus it has the fold out thumb grip which seems like a great aesthetic & yet practical addition to me, plus not having the LCD, it gets you one step closer to that older film experience M10-R: keeping in mind the lenses I'm most likely to use on any M10 would be 35mm or 50mm (probably same as 90% of users), then having the greater res will be beneficial when it comes to cropping, also, when shooting for B&W, the extra res would be beneficial - for example if you shoot something red only one in 4 photosites on the sensor will be recording any significant light, so the higher res will help offset that somewhat, while still retaining full colour info for post processing...I don't think I've explained it that well, but hopefully you catch my drift. So, the question is really, if you were starting out getting your first Leica, which M10 would you go for now & why? Do you think you would miss the LCD too much on the M10-D?....I like the idea of the M10-D, but it feels a bit of an expensive gamble!
Hello Lawrence, I love it when I get seriously massive comments. 🙂 A lot of youtube for me is to do about the persons in the comments section. So with regards to the M10-D. For me personally I knew I would never get an M10-D. The patience required for and slow-down of film, is really a silver lining thing. If I could have it, I would have it much quicker. The beauty of film for me is really about the result as opposed to the process. Having a digital camera and the annoyance of having to wait till I'm home to see my photos, will not work for me without the benefit of then having a negative to hold in my hand... I've got preview switched off on every digital camera I own, I don't chimp, I do give my models my camera at the end of a shoot so they can mark their favourites. In terms of which M10, I've looked through your points on each camera, and if it was me I'd go with the M10. Any of the price difference goes to M11 funds. I've not shot with the M10-R, however 50MP is great if you really need to print extremely large. The do not crop much and when I do, I do not think twice about cropping to the point of deteriorating quality. So much about my aesthetics is a deterioration of quality. I embrace the pixels in this regard. The issue I have with 50MP, is HDD space. It just eats it up. 50MP means two times as many hard drives, double the cost, double the ports etc... It is awesome to zoom into 100% with my GFX-50R files, however the sensor in that thing is awesome as well. I hope that helps a little. 🙂 What do you shoot nowadays?
@@oliscurra thanks Oliver for taking the time to give a personal response. I was on the Canon Eos system for 3 decades until the end of 2017 & then bought a Sony A7R3 (got fed up waiting for Canon to bring out something that I wanted to upgrade to from my last Canon - the 5D2). Technically, the A7R3 is awesome - its a very impressive camera, however, I don't personally find it that much 'fun' to shoot with.....especially as I found myself increasingly shooting with old manual lenses, & because the A7R3 doesn't have a lock on the Exposure compensation dial it gets knocked easily, so the work around it to shoot in Manual exposure mode....so i had this technically close to state of the art camera that over half the time I was using in a very manual way. this got me thinking about a more appropriate camera that would be more 'fun' to use & shoot in a very manual way. Naturally I started thinking about leica's, but also Fuji GFX. In March 2020, I ended up getting a used 50r from a local store. So I am shooting 50r & A7R3 alongside each other. If the subject matter benefits from long lenses, AF, stablization, then I grab the Sony, for everything else (which is maybe 75-80%) then I grab the 50r. However, that yarning for a Leica hasn't gone away! I find it interesting reading your take on the M10-D...it's a little different to the way i see it. I started with Film, developed & printed my own shots in the 80's, while I like the look of film, I don't have the time these days to mess about developing & printing, for developing & scanning. The convenience of digital is too strong a pull for me, but I sometimes miss the simplicity of the film shooting experience. That is why the M10D appeals to me. I can certainly understand & appreciate your different point of view though. For me I think the M10D might be 'the best of both worlds' for me....but for you, it seems it may offer the 'worst of both worlds'....& I had not looked at it like that before at all, so thank you for giving me a different perspective on it!
Great review, I particularly like the use of lots of photos which is what it’s all about. I was wondering how you manage with fast glass in bright light with the 1/4000 limit? Basically in the real world do you often need NDs? Currently I use an SL which has a lazy option of electronic shutter and with ISO 50, no problems with F1.2 lenses in bright light.
Thank you Marcus, I appreciate it. Buying an ND filter changed the world for my Noctilux and me. Although, for my summi's I either let it overexpose a bit (rare), stop down or figure out a different composition. I don't want to carry around a ton of ND's. Just for the nocti. I tend not to use electric shutters at the moment. Maybe I should re-consider at one point.
Great video! I'd be interested to hear your further thoughts on M10-P image post processing compared to the M9. Or on your overall editing work flow. Thanks!
Hi Rio, thanks for the feedback. Sounds cool I can definitely do that. Recently I was thinking about maybe going about three different way to edit black & white photos to be honest. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@oliscurra Unfortunately it is not. My golden camera was my older M-E with the CCD sensor. It's why I didn't go for the M10. Not that the M10 isn't good, I've seen your M10 photos and they are wonderful. It's just that the M240 has a look to the image captured on its screen that kinda have that similar look to an M9/M-E. I know that the screen isn't accurate and that if you shoot raw you can simply process it however you want it to but I personally need a camera that shows me the result on its screen with a certain "look" and not as flat and accurate as the M10 or any other DSLR if that makes any sense. Though in terms of design and ergonomic, the M10 would definitely be my golden camera. Battery life's great though. So which one do you love more, M10 or M7?
I have the M4 and the Leica SL. Also the little X1. The cameras I use the most are X1, SL and finally M4. The X1 is razor sharp, small and has AF, so it is perfect for traveling. The colors and bokeh are awesome. The M4 looks the best, but it is tricky to use the RF at times, e.g. when your subject is in the shadows or when there are lots of things with a similar shape, like a forest. The SL is my daily camera, when I am not traveling, since I can attach macro lenses, my fantastic old Zeiss Contax lenses, new AF lenses and also the little M lenses, It also seems a lot more durable than the Ms. My brother bumped his M and had to send it in for a repair. It cost $1500. They look and feel durable, but really are not.
It's an interesting point about the perceived durability of the M cameras. I am certain they will last you a long time, but they do need servicing. My very first DSLR ever (a canon 400D made out of plastic) I am certain will never need servicing. I just recently bought an SL2-S - not sure if you saw my initial review on it. It's a very cool system and camera. I am thoroughly enjoying it.

I can't put it down to percentages. But I can tell you that in most scenarios, when I was doing porterage shoots, I was primarily using live view, especially because I was using such wide aperture lenses. However, on walkabouts, during travel, on the street, I preferred to use the optical view finder. It felt better and I had one piece of gear less. Hope that helps Lee.
Does the M10P dial have a stop or does it spin around freely? I relied on the stop on my M6 shutter speed dial to help me feel my way through the settings.
Great video! I use Leica glass but on a Fuji xt3. The focus peaking, film sims and dr400 hilight retention mode marries great with the leica optics and superior manual focus via the focusing tab. Would love to get a leica monochrom body though!
Wouldn’t you miss the ability to take colour photos though? I’ve never used a monochrom, but I can’t see the advantage of just plan be sensor. XT3 is a cool camera by the way!! 🙂
Gold standard camera for me would be the leica m3 or nikon f2. both amazingly well built cameras! but my most used film camera right now is my leica M7! congratulations on the m10P I have the older mp 240 in black.
+Robert Chestnut I’ve never actually shot an M3. Is it really that amazing or is it more the fact that it set the standard and the “more recent” offerings like the M6, M7, M although not necessarily as ground breaking are actually better experiences? The F2, what a total beast! 🙂 I have the FM2, it is by far the most battered camera I’ve ever own and it still shoots absolutely awesome.
@@oliscurra I have owned quite a few m cameras and the m3 is the only one I would not sell! the finder is amazing. the finder on my m3 blows my m6ttl .85 finder out of the water! the only downside to the m3 is the lack of 35mm frame lines. but 90mm lenses are easy easy to focus because the focusing patch is huge too! people always complain about the loading system but I have never had any issues loading with the spool. In fact I have miss loaded my m7 and m6 a few times. If you find a good late serial number m3 you will be amazed. the double stroke ones are interesting but there were some changes to the finder eye piece in the later models. the only caveat it no meter in my opinion.

@@robertchestnut3331 Interesting. I don't know many persons here in Switzerland who are in to Leica. I will need to see if the store has one I could "rent" out or so. I always felt it had more eye relief.
“Feels like every film Leica ever made.” Except for the M5 😂 which I feel is still a unique kit. The M240 is similar to the M5 in that way. The ISO selector on the M240 is better than the dial on the M10, hell, they even brought it back on the M11… kinda. Plus, I prefer the warmer colors on the M240 over the M10.
@Oli No, my daily is a M10P and a M240 as a back up. I have a M2 for film. I have been looking into a M5 because it's so different from the other Ms. But my ideal kit would be a M10D with a MA/MP. Can't decide between the stealthy MA or a brassed MP.

@@_willfunk_ Those are some touch choices to make. 35 & 75 go nicely together. 35 & 50 too, but the difference in field of view will be a little more nuanced. 24 or 28 goes nicely with 50. When I used to shoot weddings, I had a 35mm glued to my canon 5dMark iii and most of the time it was the 85mm on the Canon 6d, which would get swapped out for the 24-105 just for the 24. Aaah lens choices. Tough but fun. When you speak of finding your look, what are the looks of others who inspire yours?
I hear you. It’s what a lot of people dislike about the M7. Clearly otherwise Leica’s recent re-issue wouldn’t have been the M6. You shoot analog exclusively or back and forth between digital and analog?
Hi Andy, clearly I’m no expert in camera engineering. However when I say video, do not picture the Sony A7Siii which is a video powerhouse through and through. Picture the predecessor to the Leica M10 series - the M240. For me, it would be awesome if I can get 10 mins worth of video. At the time of the M10-P 4K was the hot resolution. If Leica had just gone with 1080P with a max gram rate of 25fps, that would’ve been enough. I imagine walking around Rome as a tourist, taking photos and then 2 mins of some video with the M10-P instead of having to reach for my iPhone for that.
I'm really interested in hearing what your "Gold Standard" camera is. Reply in this thread and don't forget to mention why...
And let me go first, if you've already watched the video, you will know it's the M7 and I go into why at 12:06 mark. What about yours?
@@stuartdorman128 are you done with film for the time being? I'd love to try out that 28 elmarit. 🙂
@@oliscurra I thought I was done with film. I donated my V35 enlarger and full darkroom setup a few years ago. But your Tuscany video has me thinking about an MP even though the shutter speed dial rotates the opposite direction
So wonderful to watch a review by an articulate artist who "gets it". Spot-on sir. And lovely vision in your work.
Nick, thank you sincerely for your kind words. It is lovely to read. 🙂 Although there are times when I like my work and other times when I can't stand it and think of what an amateur I still am after 17 years of photography.
Awsome video. Just got an M10-P Safari edition and your comments and knowledge of the Leica system has indeed help
Great stuff mate. I’m sure you’ll love the camera. Which lenses are you shooting on it?
You connect even more directly - and without any distraction - with your subject with the M10-D
This is true.
A month after buying my M10-P, I broke my right hand. While it heals I'm learning what I can online. Yours is the most comprehensive take on the camera I've seen anywhere, thank you. I can't wait to shed the cast so I can get out there again
I hope your hand heals soon. Must be pretty annoying - new camera and can't use it. When does the cast come off?
@@oliscurra End of the month. I can just about cradle it and use Live View. It's awkward to use my thumb to release the shutter. Necessity is the mother of invention
Really enjoyed this!
Thank you Andrés. I'm very happy to hear you enjoyed the video. 🙂
The video is excellent. Very informative.
Thanks Shiraz! 🙂 Glad you liked it.
Fantastic review, dude, enjoyed every minute of it!
Thanks George. I'm glad you enjoyed it. What do you shoot?
THANKS a lot for that magnification buton tweak for the bulb function. I've had my M10 for 2 years and recently switched to the M10-p and didn't have a clue :D It will get in handy these darker month of the year :D
Whenever you’re on the fence for a pre-owned digital Leica M, the M10-P and the M10-R are perhaps the best options out there. Quite modern, but with all the classic M benefits. Sure, the M11 has some nice improvements, but generally, I’m so happy with my M10-R and M7, that I’m not considering an M11 yet.
Couldn’t agree more mate. Affordable by comparison and very capable cameras. Glad to see another M7 owner. 🤙 👍
Amazing video, your photos so stunning.
Thank you Claudio. I appreciate it. 🙂
Great video buddy. I’m very very tempted. I’ll take the plunge this summer. Cheers from Ireland
Hey Colin, you gonna get the M10-P or one of the other ones?
Olivier,
Greetings from Okinawa, Japan.
Thank you,
Chaps
PS
I’m a military Chaplain and Educator.
Here are my thoughts in brief:
Third most used lens: 21 mm 1.8
Second most: 35mm summi
First most: 50mm Nocti
Surprised by that actually.
Enjoyed this. And now please a few videos on how you use the Leica to take these great images of yours. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for very helpful and valuable review!
Great video Olivier! You capture what makes some of us love photography, and our cameras' role in that. Curious if you ever play with the 10-R and whether you've found any reason to favourite it or the P?
Great video! Lovely images! What strap are you using?
My "Gold Standard" the Leica MD 262. What else? I`ve shot film for 30 plus years and this digital camera encapsulates both worlds in one body...!
Really? What makes you think you'd prefer the M10-P over the M11?
My logic goes something like this:
M10: I can get a used one from around £3.5k (almost affordable!), its 'louder' shutter is still quiet enough, & I don't think I'd miss a touch screen
M10-P: It has the nice engraving on the top plate(!)
M10-D: It has the nice engraving on the top plate too, plus it has the fold out thumb grip which seems like a great aesthetic & yet practical addition to me, plus not having the LCD, it gets you one step closer to that older film experience
M10-R: keeping in mind the lenses I'm most likely to use on any M10 would be 35mm or 50mm (probably same as 90% of users), then having the greater res will be beneficial when it comes to cropping, also, when shooting for B&W, the extra res would be beneficial - for example if you shoot something red only one in 4 photosites on the sensor will be recording any significant light, so the higher res will help offset that somewhat, while still retaining full colour info for post processing...I don't think I've explained it that well, but hopefully you catch my drift.
@@oliscurra great! I own M 240 myself and man, your colour editing is just wonderful! Keep up the great work and best of luck to you :)
@@rio_nakayama Is the M240 your golden camera - in the sense like the M7 is for me - the one I compare all other cameras to.
Nice video. Very entertaining. Thank you.
Hey Oliver, I saw in your newest wideo that you wear using a silver 50mm, is that the zeiss sonar 1.5 or the voidlander 1.5? do you still have your Leica lenses or going over to other brands?
and yes great videos!!
@@aggistef1651 Hey Aggi, I'm glad you wrote and that you enjoyed the videos. Out of curiosity, which style do you prefer? Talking head or going out and taking photos etc...?
To answer your questions:
1. It is the Zeiss Sonnar 1.5. I've heard good things about the Voigtländer but never tried it. The Zeiss however is pure magic.
2. I'm not switching over at all. I had the Zeiss and the Voigtländer 21, at the time I filmed the M10-P video as well. 🙂

That Music intro !!!! love it :)
Ain’t it cool 😎? The moment I heard it, I knew I wanted to use that. 🙂
Plus 1 for the placement of the on and off switch ... wish they had that on the SL2S .
My wish for the M11 would be for a Hybrid Viewfinder to aid in focusing such as can be found in the Fuji X-pro-1 / X100 etc.
OMG if they did that!!! It would be awesome. I mean their SL2-S EVF is so cool. I love it. To be able to switch between analog and digital, that would just be the best. What's your main camera at the moment?
@@oliscurra
My "main camera" (sometimes makes me money camera) is a Canon 5D-IV but am looking for something smaller for my personal work.
I have pretty much decided on a Leica, don't know what to get through, I am deciding between (M10-D (M10-D (my favourite option - like the idea of the digital darkroom / moment of discovery) or P or maybe an M10 monochrome) - this is of course only posable if my risky stocks head for the moon.
Thanks for sharing your photographic journey.
Do you happen to have an approximate % of usage OVF vs live view? Many thanks 🙏🏼
Still today the best M for me
Does the M10P dial have a stop or does it spin around freely? I relied on the stop on my M6 shutter speed dial to help me feel my way through the settings.
In that case you’ll be relying on the in viewfinder view when using the dial like that as it doesn’t have a stop.
Great vid! Where did you get your shutter release button from?
I bought it at an online shop here in Switzerland to be honest. Where are you based?
If you find a good late serial number m3 you will be amazed. the double stroke ones are interesting but there were some changes to the finder eye piece in the later models. the only caveat it no meter in my opinion.
also My f2 literally fell off a mountain once and still works great. if you like the f2 you will probably like the leica m3. they seem the most comparable in build quality out of all my cameras.
@@robertchestnut3331 Interesting. I don't know many persons here in Switzerland who are in to Leica. I will need to see if the store has one I could "rent" out or so. My first film camera was the Voigtländer Bessa R3M. A camera quite close to my heart. One of the things I always enjoyed was it's 1:1 viewfinder. I'm looking forward to checking out the M3. Got any particular lens that finds its way to the camera most of the time?
@@oliscurra I mostly use a summicron 50mm v5 or a 90mm pre asph summicron on the m3. I would like to try a zeiss 50mm sonnar f1.5.I hear that lens is really good on an M3. If you liked the 1:1 finder on the voigtlander the m3 I am pretty sure is the closest you will get with leica to that. I had a voigtlander r2m before my m6 by the way. I always felt it had more eye relief.
Fantastic Video. 👍
Thanks Gio! 👌🏾
nice videos ! I m super curious to see that preset you use . did you tweak the Hues as well right ?
I will do a few editing videos to come. At first I’ll focus on black & white and colour thereafter. And yeah, I work with hues a lot.
If I could edit the line I’d say “feels like every film camera ever made except the M5”. 😉 Is that your setup M240 & M5?
@Oli No, my daily is a M10P and a M240 as a back up. I have a M2 for film. I have been looking into a M5 because it's so different from the other Ms. But my ideal kit would be a M10D with a MA/MP. Can't decide between the stealthy MA or a brassed MP.
...almost 9 months ago? Good gracious!
You mean, how long ago I bought the camera? 😬
Cost?
Too much. Leica is great, but they still cost too much...
Good photos! Are you dumping Instagram for Twitter?
To be honest I can’t even say I’m active enough on Instagram to say that I’m dumping it. What about yourself?
@@oliscurra I haven't uploaded anything for practically a year.
Every now and then I actively look to see if there is something to replace Instagram but I just can't find anything I like.
Regarding Twitter, I'm testing it, but I didn't think it's the definitive solution either.
@@swaspc7618 I hear ya. There was a point in time when Flickr was exactly that. People posting their photos and engagement was natural.
Haha dude. SICK intro.
I look at it, and I cringe and what's worse, I probably couldn't do a better job as it is. 😆
Plus 1 for M7 gold standard
And plus 1 right back at you friend. 🙂
As for the tripod problem, get the Novoflex Magic Ball Mini, thank me later :)
I will check it out. Which Leica do you shoot?
@@oliscurra M262 and Q, both have this plate “problem”, but it is easily solvable. I will make a video about this down the line to show how it works.
Cool!! Looking forward to. Heading over to check out your channel right now.
Great video!!
I’d love to see your take on the 50mm Noctilux and the 75mm Summilux.
Thank you Will, I appreciate it. Sounds cool. Already started on the noctilux one. 🙂 What camera so you shoot?
@@oliscurra I had a M6 back in the day and like you, shot Canon (portraits & weddings). I’m currently in the process of making the the deep dive into the Leica M echo system and looking to pick up a M10-P and a few lenses.
@@_willfunk_ Very cool. There are some bits around canon that I sometimes miss to be honest, however Leica is simply where it's at. Especially lens wise. Which are you looking to pick up?
@@oliscurra Well, that’s the question.. In this current environment, portrait photography is a bit unstable at the moment. With that said, the 50mm Lux and 75mm lux are on my list. For street and landscape photography, I’m looking at the new 35mm APO cron and 50mm APO Cron. The biggest importance for me is finding my look, so to speak.
When you speak of finding your look, what are the looks of others who inspire yours?
for me it‘s the M6, don’t like M7‘s digital shutter
I hear you. It’s what a lot of people dislike about the M7. Clearly otherwise Leica’s recent re-issue wouldn’t have been the M6. You shoot analog exclusively or back and forth between digital and analog?
@@oliscurra so far only analog. But may become weak and buy a digital one too - which also would be the M10P for me :)
Video? You are wishing for a different camera altogether.
