I'm a 60 yr old city guy who never has and never will own any livestock but I sure love learning about the grass fed cattle business. You, Greg Judy, and Rob over on WR Ranch channel are on my notifications list! Thanks for the great videos!!

I’m a big fan of the south pol breed. From what I understand, they are docile, do great in the south/warmer climates, good beef size, as well as other characteristics. Of course, depending on the herd genetics, they can have good breeding numbers, be good mothers, etc.

You are spot on! Bred to perform exceptionally well on grass, good fertility, good longevity, very docile, heat tolerant, easy calvers, excellent mothers.

Nice set of bulls. Will work on a lot of different breeds due to size. Blessings🙂

Hey! Steve up here in Waco. So what are some of the advantages of having the herd registered? Thanks

My only goal with the registered route is to raise quality cattle with good genetics that allows me to provide seed stock to other producers. The commercial route is all I’ve ever done and it has served me well but we are typically limited in that the price we receive is determined by someone else. I’m hoping to be more in control of the price I receive going the registered route.

My husband and I got chased on our 4-wheeler today by our 1-year old bull. We’re uncertain if he was just being frisky or we should take this as a warning that this bull is dangerous. We’re new to cattle so are very uncertain how we should interpret this situation. How do you decide whether a head should stay or go? Any suggestions?

      What breed of bull?

      Purebred South Poll

My first thought would be that he’s being frisky. Was he bucking and playing while running? Were you feeding cubes? Any other details that would help sort through it? I’ve not seen a yearling bull charge and mean it.

He and a second 1-year old South Poll bull were together in a 10-acre pasture, which we just got our water system set up in to start moving them on a daily basis. They have been alone for a few months in this pasture with little interaction with people. We went into the pasture to move our Free Choice mineral feeders since we now have a portable water trough at the end of the pasture (our first prospective paddy). He bellowed at us when we drove past him. (We were 40’ or 50’ or more feet away from him when passing him while dragging their mineral feeder.) It was on our return trip passed him that he chased us. Initially, we think he was bucking when he chased us, but then seemed to get move more serious as we got farther away. As our distance away grew he and his less engaged buddy came upon a skid steer operator moving a brush pile in the same pasture. This caught the bulls’ attention and the somewhat aggressive one kind of charging the skid steer (unbeknownst to the operator). Then, the bulls seems to back off and went to mess with the brush pile. We left the pasture, as did the machine operator. The bulls were definitely a bit agitated by our human disruptions.

@@triciahill216 I still suspect playing/curious. Hard to know for sure though. Purebred South Poll?

Can you please do a video about the difference between commercial and registered, your thinking on the change, pro's and con's, etc., etc.
