It's only Nomura who always takes for ever to finish a game (he wanted to turn FF15 into a musical at one point). This time the director of FF14 is working on it so I'm quite optimistic!
Not to mention the Crystal Theme being on a MINOR scale. It completely changes the mood of the song we have all known since the beginning of the series.
My main concern is that the gameplay shown was of someone fighting solo. I’ve always felt the strength of Final Fantasy comes from a party of interesting characters working together. First trailer though, so that will probably change.
Like you said by the end it's probably just the early stages, a lot is probably gonna change since we don't even have a release date or year yet. I would be disappointed if we don't have a party cause one of my favorite things in RPGS are the main cast members

@@raevethemaeve6679 To be fair, I've used Joshua's hair on a character in FF14 before, so there's like some reuse of designs, but idk if it's exactly reusing the assets or not. I've seen people recreate some of the characters from FF16 in the FF14 character maker, and yes there are hair styles that appear in 14 that are in 16. But, I mean, is that bad? Not to me lol. Game looks great, but we'll definitely have to wait and see if it looks even greater in 2021 when they show the next update!

Danniel Look I remember the wait for FFXII, Type-0, and FFXV. They were all announced at the same time and told it would within 3 years. Look what happened to them. Almost 10 years for them to come out! It also a big reason KH3 was so long in coming. Nomura said that they would only start work on it once Fabula Nova Crystallis was finished.
@@pal-8080 An actual high art paint person, so the guy's trained at stylistically abstracting tons of theme and plot details within the tight constraints of just doing a logo design with some characters and one object, in just some sparse outlines and color gradients. I'm glad for every new game they manage keep him on in this series.

Edit: Apparently, the people who worked on 14 are working on this and the game is using a lot of assets from 15. Might be out sooner than expected... @@astienyusuf7428 Looks like MC is Phoenix, as he does a wing to block the dragoon's attacks. Joshua is Ifrit, as Ifrit looked out of control. Joshua transforms into Ifrit, goes in a rampage, "kills" MC, but then MC transforms into Phoenix as an auto-revive, which is why the guy says "Second Eikon of Fire?" in the CC. When they said "It's the Archduke's son. Phoenix!" was probably talking about MC, and the trailer was tricking the viewer. I have a feeling that next trailers will show more characters and how they play. Here's hoping.

When the boy goes crazy after seeing one of his protectors get his head chopped off, an image of a burning man appears, an explosion happens and then Ifrit shows up. Later on, someone's yelling "Joshua, please wake up" while Ifrit is on a rampage. Trailers sometimes are intentionally confusing...

@@big_met_fan8792 Final Fantasy XI is actually leagues ahead of XIV in terms of content. You can download some third party programs to up the graphics of 11 to nearly 14 levels. So MUCH to do in that game it'll take you 6 months to even get caught up if you play 20 hours a day. World of Warcraft has a lot more diverse meaningful content. With the expansion coming out soon, it'll definitely be worth jumping into if you're new. Black Desert Online is literally endless grinding and really good pvp. Those are the three MMOs I'd recommend until Ashes of Creation come out.

A clockwork release schedule of an expansion every 2 years; large patch every 3 months that either add (at minimum) 4 raid fights of 2 difficulty levels (or a 24-man raid, and a trial of 2 difficulties), a new dungeon (used to be 2), more story, crafting content, feature additions. That, and because Roulettes keep older content in relative relevance, that means 75 dungeons, 68 trials, and about 40 raid encounters (including alliance raids). And I'd argue that the majority of that content; especially from stormblood onward, is very good. I can't argue with you on the quality of the story because it's opinionated, but you're objectively wrong stating the game doesn't world build. All one has to do is look at Norvrandt or Othard for examples of world building. Hell, I have an entire encyclopedia on my shelf dedicated to nothing but lore and world building. What about the characters is braindead? Can you give an example of a character acting completely idiotically besides just insisting it? What's dumb about Emet-Selch or even Vaulthry as villains? Why did they do to make them appear "easily slaughtered"? And Bozja seems on paper to fix everything people hated about Eureka. TL;DR Your hyperbolic negativity makes it really hard to take you seriously.
This gives me slight FF14 vibes combined with those dark vibes we got from old 13 Versus trailers. Really hope the story is done justice this time. 15 left me wanting.

Yeah I listened to it just for the music about 12 times after. Nuts. A very interesting western/medieval tone added in there that I haven't heard in any of the other games.

As far as I'm aware, the only crossover between 14 and 16, is that Yoshi P (director and producer of 14) is also the head of Business Division 3. While Business Division 3 is overall responsible for 16, the game will likely have it's own staff working on it, with it's own director and producer. There is also not way that Yoshi P can work on another game outside of some very loose guidance, considering how much time he is spending on 14.

@bruh moment Trailers usually infer what type of product you are going to get and the dialogue informs you of how they handle certain situations. Using an excuse like this is why people think natural born english speakers are the most easily offended people around and why we continue to get safe versions of foreign products that even 10 year olds from other countries can understand clearly.
From what I understood from the trailer. That Joshua ( the small kid) is a gifted boy and the protagonist is his body guard. As we see at the end of the trailer. Joshua's father or one of the soldiers dies in front of him and the blood get on Joshua's face. He couldn't contain himself and released the gift inside him which is becoming Ifrit himself. You can hear the soldiers shouting Joshua's name and telling him to stop and wake up. At the trailer's final shot, they showed us the protagonist in his younger form which was a body guard to Joshua and then they show us his elder form who was saying he is gonna kill him. Which I think he meant Joshua or Ifrit. Maybe Ifrit or Joshua was causing chaos in the world and causing the blight to spread for years. The protagonist wants to stop the blight from spreading by killing Ifrit or Joshua. So the protagonist changed from being his body guard to his killer. Tbh I loved this trailer and what I witnessed! It is a mix of FF14 and FF15. So hyped for this game!
For what I see in the trailer they say that the kid is Phoenix. Also at the beginning it looks like the kid is healing the Main character with phoenix magic. It's FFXIV team tho and they are masters of missleading with their trailers.
1:04 kid was healing the protagonist. Perhaps at the beginning both phoenix and ifrit is within his body and somehow Phoenix got released and this upsets the balance and the kid turns into raging Ifrit.
I actually think Ifrit is locked away inside of Joshua, while Phoenix is also part of him as well, as you notice one of the Soldiers stating "a second eikon of fire... thats impossible!" It would mean that the ability to summon is similar in a way to the Crest system from say Fire Emblem Three houses, that the blood to be able to summon one of these eikons is passed on into their children, but I guess somewhere the blood mixed (In three houses, one of the characters is shown to have both a major crest and a minor crest) hence why Joshua is "the kid" which has two eikons inbued in him at once. A relatively stable Phoenix giving him the power to heal wounds, and the violent and unkept Ifrit that only knows pure destruction. Of course in this world, its probably expected that you only ever inherit 1 Eikon from your bloodline, Joshua obviously being an exception to the unfortunate demise of his would be soldiers (as it looks a bit like a rebellion is happening..)

Quick plot speculation: “Joshua” Is somehow connected to both Ifrit and Phoenix, but gets consumed completely by Ifrit when faced with tragedy. (JOSHUA WAKE UP) Our protagonist (Joshuas former personal bodyguard) is a summoner, taking on the Phoenix that Joshua abandoned. He’s using Phoenix related powers through most of the trailer, but also whips out a Titan fist: which tells me he’ll be traveling the world to unite the crystals and master Eikons (summons) of all the elements, with the ultimate goal of stopping Joshua/Ifrit, either by words or by the sword. UPDATE: apparently in the Japanese version of the trailer, “JOSHUA WAKE UP!” is roughly “STOP, HE’S MY BROTHER!” I don’t think he means his literal brother, probably something like “STOP, HES MY FRIEND!” Unless Joshua accidentally kills the protagonists brother? It would explain why he says “I’ll kill you” with such venom. It’s a bit of a stretch, but we still only have one trailer. That’s enough from me, may you walk in the light of the crystal as we march towards 2021!
We see Phoenix fighting Ifrit though. My theory is that it's kind of like Sekiro. Joshua is an important young man who has been kidnapped and we play as his shield, trying to get him back. The people that killed all of his people and the Archduke are likely who he wants revenge on imo.
Seems like a revenge story. Joshua, the young kid seems to be Phoenix. The faction he is part of seems to be attacked and it seems their goal is to eliminate Phoenix. The main character is said to be Joshua’s shield. Ifrit appears to take down Phoenix and seems to be successful in killing Joshua. Failed at protecting Joshua, our protagonist is out for revenge.
Seems more like Joshua transforms into Ifrit and then consumed by pure anger start destroying the entire Village that's why we hear a "Please Joshua stop" while Ifrit/Joshua is smashing bodies (We also hear in the Japanese Trailer Shield Saying "That's my brother" this may lead to why Shield wants revenge on Joshua)
@@kuso7430 While I suppose it is possible that Joshua somehow turns into Ifrit, Joshua is definitely the dominant of Phoenix. You can see him appear to heal or use his power on Shield at 1:04, and there is a phoenix feather symbol that appears above his hand when he does so. Also, since the cover image is of Phoenix vs Ifrit, that would only make sense in the context of Joshua turning into Ifrit if Shield was the dominant of Phoenix. Which we can assume is not the case since he is only shown as having gained access to some abilities of the Eikons rather than being able to summon any like the dominants.
The main character its the soldier who is the phoenix, the outer character its Joshua shield the ifrit. Well or the main charcter get the phoenix, you can see he have its wing.

The child can summon Phoenix, but his body may turn into Ifrit with rage and an unstable mind. Pheonix tries to help the boy by fight the Ifrit.

The guy who helped create the combat for DMC V was actually reported to be involved in a new triple AAA game for Square which is presumably FF 16 so it makes sense

I played thousands of hours in FF14 and still playing it. First I thought this was an expansion but after 10 seconds I realized it´s an all new one. This game looks like the final fantasy of my dreams. Pure medieval and dark Fantasy. God that music alone, it reminds me of a worms Tail. I can´t wait to get my hands on it. I loved FFX for the backstory too, as much as any other game that has a rich history! Just shows they put a lot of work into it!
1.0 Fan ive seen a interview from the final fantasy devs. It is called final fantasy cause with the series they wanna make a world that is so beatiful that the real world has about never seen and could only be imagined in fantasies 🤷♂️. So if you want realism this series aint gonna be it kid. This series is supposed to be a fantasy and have a treat to the eye environments as well 🤷♂️😂😅
@@finallife87 i mean... ivalice in general, spira, etc. They all have medieval/fantasy settings with, at the bare minimum, futuristic high tech stuff like airships and weaponry thrown in. Not complaining, i think that's what makes FF what it is, and i heavily prefer that to the full-sci fi direction.
Is it just me or does it not, character wise, give you a completely different vibe than before? I feel like this is going to take a very, very heavily character driven kind of focus, more so than ever before. And Jesus Christ if it's got the same spirit as FFXIV these characters are going to be incredible. Holy shit the hype.

This looks nothing like Final Fantasy 1-6 except for all the brand staples that have been in _every_ Final Fantasy game so far, Chocobos, summons, etc. I hope you don't mean the lack of high technology, because Final Fantasy 1-6 were _packed_ with technology: airships, mech suits, burrowing robo-castles... FF has _never_ been medieval fantasy. And Final Fantasy 1-6 certainly didn't depict blood-spraying "Game of Thrones"-style decapitations.
It's just you. "[V]ery heavily character driven" is not new at all to Final Fantasy. Whatever faults Final Fantasy XV had, it focused just as much attention on its characters as Final Fantasy VI, or VII, or IX. (I know, because I played VI, VII and IX the weeks they first hit shelves in North America.) Heck, _Final Fantasy X-2_ was a "very heavily character-driven" game.
Combat reminds me of FFXV which I really liked for its flashiness and mechanics. My only problem with it was the lack of difficulty in it so if this game fixes that while still being unique it’s be perfect.
@@mrokid1 7 Remake battle system was clearly based on XV and played a lot better not to mention all the DLC to XV playing better then the base game as well, I think they are getting this type of system pretty well after a few games worth.
For people saying it looks like a solo game with no FF Party feel. At 1:19 in the trailer you can see another dude next to the MC in a fighting stance basically targetting the mob that's currently being slapped. At 1:21 you can just about see another guy standing up after being knocked down presumably on the right side edge of the screen while MC is juggling the mob in the air. At 1:59 there's a bunch of KO/Dead people on the ground, while the MC is fighting the Dragoon. But there's one that looks exactly like the guy that flips the dead dragoon over after the fight ended. And implication is that was your "party member" when you were kicking the Dragoon's ass. At 2:22 in the trailer while the MC is punching the shit out of that enemy, if you look to the left corner of that scene you can see a guy in a white shirt with his sword drawn facing the guy getting his ribs realigned. They've probably just kept it focused purely on the MC while they work on party combat AI. There's a lot of camera play involved to obscure other characters in the scene.
It looks like everything they showed was from the beginning of the game so I even suspected you ride solo for a small while before the whole story takes off. It would really shock me if they removed a party system to be honest.
It's pretty rare for summons to have an actual, direct role in Final Fantasy; most of the time they're just kinda there in the background. The player can use see them or not at their leisure. That'll be interesting to see these Eikons and the role they play in the story; I like that name by the way
As a long time fan of FF, am hyped for new additions to the franchise...but, and a big BUT. To me, this trailer felt kinda underwhelming, with only a couple of exciting moments. Hope we get to see more of it soon! P.S: Dunno if anyone else thought the same but...am kinda seeing FFXIV x FFXV mashup here lol
The quality of FF games have been inversely correlated to how pretty the launch trailer looks. The fact this games looks like last gen actually makes me hopeful that the budget all went to the right places. I remain cautiously optimistic.

I'm actually all for this. People have their complaints, and they have the right to have them. However, since they have Yoshi P working on it (Resurrected Ffxiv and made it one of the best ff in years) and has the guys who did the combat for dmc 5 and dragons dogma (some of the most engaging fluid combat in modern gaming) i have faith.
I like the combat of devil may cry i mean for me every game need that combat is good and cool looking 😂 I know some people want that pokemon style gameplay but i mean not so many people will buy this game then it doesnt fit now 🤔

They're saying that because they want to pose as traditionalist old schoolers. I Am Setsuna, Lost Sphere, World of Final Fantasy all had OK to moderate sales. Even Octopath Traveler only sold around 1.5 million copies which is downright pathetic. Persona 5 is the only traditional turn-based JRPG that was successful enough but that was mostly because it was a PS4 exclusive -- most people who played it had never even played a JRPG before. Some had never even heard of Persona. Regardless, even that being a super successful title, it only sold 3.2 million copies. Contrast that with Final Fantasy XV, which sold 8.9 million across all platforms. These people don't really want turn-based Final Fantasy. They just want to SAY they do.

Everyone who don't recognizes what SE is doing is just blind. I know the company for over 20 years now. the point is, that big franchises like FF or Dragon Quest have significant pillars which should remain and SE has torn down the old pillars and wants to sell us new ones under the same name, that's pretty bold. There is nothing against making a game which we see in the trailer, but it shouldnt be a Final Fantasy or at least something like "Lightning Returns". I really like the switching between characters in battle, I hope that's a thing, wouldn't mind if the "party" gets a little shuffled from time to time either to keep it interesting
I'd really love otherwise. My favorite games are the ones where you feel kinda lonely. Like Zelda, Dark Souls, Shin Megami Tensei for the most part, Metroid, Castlevania and even Pokémon. All of them have that element that makes them appealing to me.
its not, from what i gather fromt eh trailer, its a solo game no party(maybe a helper you cant control at sometimes) and it seems like that little boy is either killed or taken hostage and when the main character is young (the first one that said ill kill you) and he grows old looking for revenge for his master (the second dude at the end that says "no matter how long it takes") they are both the same guy, no room for party members that you can control in this game, you MIGHT have companions tho

They went into this thing saying openly they wanted to go back to the medieval settings (the "Fantasy" element as they put it) but also hiring one of the devs from Devil May Cry to work on it. ConfusedHype is real.

If you haven't played FFXIV, I would hardly recommend it. In fact, when I was watching this, I thought it was going to be a new expansion for that title.
XIV story-wise has gone from solid and good, to on par with the best single-player FFs, to abysmally bad (I hate Stormblood so, so much), to one of the best things Squenix has ever made. Damn right they've proven it.

I was imagining how close they would look to Bartz from Final Fantasy V if he was brought to a modern graphics game. However, I never really looked at Final Fantasy Dissidia and such and I guess you are probably pulling this similarity from there.
@@sigurdtheblue I’m not making a literal comparison. Just reminds me of that type of character, body type, and clothing style. The shot of Clive with the Chocobo reminded me of Bartz in spirit-considering that white Chocobo seems to be his personal mount and friend.
I'm gonna be honest and say I would not have gotten into final fantasy if it wasnt for 15 fighting style. I do love the old turn based but I just dont think that they can use it now since it would limit the scenes their trying to create, idk if you played 15 but imagine the fight with Titan or Leviathan if it was turn based. I feel like it would have limited what they did with it
@@nairod0 That's admirable since FFXV had an awful combat system, but I get what you're saying and I agree, turn based is outdated. It can only look good in games like Persona with amazing styled visuals.
So many unfortunate souls blind to FFXIV's existence. "I've wanted a new medieval one for so long!!!" It's been here. It's been phenomenal. You just didn't play it.
I know right, they don't know what kind of masterpiece they are missing. The worst point of all this it's compare to FFXV when it clearly screams FFXIV vibes.
In all fairness, many of us who don't mention FFXIV often aren't into MMOs. I acknowledge that FFXIV is the best final fantasy game to have been release in the last decade or more, but I can't for the life of me enjoy MMOs. So I've still been left waiting for a classic fantasy style FF game for a long time.
I'm sure its great. And I do really want to experience the story. But I don't have 500 hours to play an MMO and find clans and such to play with. My work schedule is full time and mostly random. Nor do I enjoy endless grind. What I want is a non MMO with that kind of story. Which is hopefully what this is. FFS i'd buy a version of FFXIV that was singleplayer and cut out most of the grind. Theres too much going on to jump into it at this point.

Sadly life won't allow me to dive into an mmo right now so I'm extremely excited to see what 14's talented devs can do outside of the constraints of its genre

And when my brother borrowed FF9 from a friend I was playing a bunch of other games at the time. It kinda bugs me out that I never got to get through both FF8 or FF9. But eventually I will. I'm wondering if they're gonna be as close to me as FF7 was. With FF8 I would always get to the part right before the second disc and then I couldn't go on because I couldn't get the 2nd disc to work lmao. I played FF10 for the first time a few years ago but never got to finish it cuz I ended up getting evicted by this narcissist I was living with at the time lol

Not just FFT, the setting has a lot of Ivalice Alliance in it; the graphics and not-British remind me of FFXII and the young boy Joshua, who is apparently the son of a Duke, is pretty obviously a Vagrant Story reference.
Unfortunately, the music doesn't seem to have the FFT vibe at all. Moreover, this one sounds rather underwhelming, which is surprising - given the Final Fantasy legacy...

My main concern is that the gameplay shown was of someone fighting solo. I’ve always felt the strength of Final Fantasy comes from a party of interesting characters working together. First trailer though, so that will probably change.

Like you said by the end it's probably just the early stages, a lot is probably gonna change since we don't even have a release date or year yet. I would be disappointed if we don't have a party cause one of my favorite things in RPGS are the main cast members

@@raevethemaeve6679 To be fair, I've used Joshua's hair on a character in FF14 before, so there's like some reuse of designs, but idk if it's exactly reusing the assets or not. I've seen people recreate some of the characters from FF16 in the FF14 character maker, and yes there are hair styles that appear in 14 that are in 16. But, I mean, is that bad? Not to me lol. Game looks great, but we'll definitely have to wait and see if it looks even greater in 2021 when they show the next update!

Danniel Look I remember the wait for FFXII, Type-0, and FFXV. They were all announced at the same time and told it would within 3 years. Look what happened to them. Almost 10 years for them to come out! It also a big reason KH3 was so long in coming. Nomura said that they would only start work on it once Fabula Nova Crystallis was finished.

@@astienyusuf7428 Looks like MC is Phoenix, as he does a wing to block the dragoon's attacks. Joshua is Ifrit, as Ifrit looked out of control. Joshua transforms into Ifrit, goes in a rampage, "kills" MC, but then MC transforms into Phoenix as an auto-revive, which is why the guy says "Second Eikon of Fire?" in the CC. When they said "It's the Archduke's son. Phoenix!" was probably talking about MC, and the trailer was tricking the viewer.
I have a feeling that next trailers will show more characters and how they play. Here's hoping.

When the boy goes crazy after seeing one of his protectors get his head chopped off, an image of a burning man appears, an explosion happens and then Ifrit shows up. Later on, someone's yelling "Joshua, please wake up" while Ifrit is on a rampage.

@@big_met_fan8792 Final Fantasy XI is actually leagues ahead of XIV in terms of content. You can download some third party programs to up the graphics of 11 to nearly 14 levels. So MUCH to do in that game it'll take you 6 months to even get caught up if you play 20 hours a day.
World of Warcraft has a lot more diverse meaningful content. With the expansion coming out soon, it'll definitely be worth jumping into if you're new.
Black Desert Online is literally endless grinding and really good pvp.
Those are the three MMOs I'd recommend until Ashes of Creation come out.

A clockwork release schedule of an expansion every 2 years; large patch every 3 months that either add (at minimum) 4 raid fights of 2 difficulty levels (or a 24-man raid, and a trial of 2 difficulties), a new dungeon (used to be 2), more story, crafting content, feature additions. That, and because Roulettes keep older content in relative relevance, that means 75 dungeons, 68 trials, and about 40 raid encounters (including alliance raids). And I'd argue that the majority of that content; especially from stormblood onward, is very good.
I can't argue with you on the quality of the story because it's opinionated, but you're objectively wrong stating the game doesn't world build. All one has to do is look at Norvrandt or Othard for examples of world building. Hell, I have an entire encyclopedia on my shelf dedicated to nothing but lore and world building. What about the characters is braindead? Can you give an example of a character acting completely idiotically besides just insisting it? What's dumb about Emet-Selch or even Vaulthry as villains? Why did they do to make them appear "easily slaughtered"?
And Bozja seems on paper to fix everything people hated about Eureka.

As far as I'm aware, the only crossover between 14 and 16, is that Yoshi P (director and producer of 14) is also the head of Business Division 3. While Business Division 3 is overall responsible for 16, the game will likely have it's own staff working on it, with it's own director and producer.
There is also not way that Yoshi P can work on another game outside of some very loose guidance, considering how much time he is spending on 14.

From what I understood from the trailer. That Joshua ( the small kid) is a gifted boy and the protagonist is his body guard. As we see at the end of the trailer. Joshua's father or one of the soldiers dies in front of him and the blood get on Joshua's face. He couldn't contain himself and released the gift inside him which is becoming Ifrit himself. You can hear the soldiers shouting Joshua's name and telling him to stop and wake up. At the trailer's final shot, they showed us the protagonist in his younger form which was a body guard to Joshua and then they show us his elder form who was saying he is gonna kill him. Which I think he meant Joshua or Ifrit. Maybe Ifrit or Joshua was causing chaos in the world and causing the blight to spread for years. The protagonist wants to stop the blight from spreading by killing Ifrit or Joshua. So the protagonist changed from being his body guard to his killer. Tbh I loved this trailer and what I witnessed! It is a mix of FF14 and FF15. So hyped for this game!

For what I see in the trailer they say that the kid is Phoenix. Also at the beginning it looks like the kid is healing the Main character with phoenix magic. It's FFXIV team tho and they are masters of missleading with their trailers.
I like the thoughts, but it seemed like Joshua was a Phoenix, not Ifrit, and you can see Ifrit and a Phoenix in the same shot at 2:57.
1:04 kid was healing the protagonist. Perhaps at the beginning both phoenix and ifrit is within his body and somehow Phoenix got released and this upsets the balance and the kid turns into raging Ifrit.
I actually think Ifrit is locked away inside of Joshua, while Phoenix is also part of him as well, as you notice one of the Soldiers stating "a second eikon of fire... thats impossible!"
It would mean that the ability to summon is similar in a way to the Crest system from say Fire Emblem Three houses, that the blood to be able to summon one of these eikons is passed on into their children, but I guess somewhere the blood mixed (In three houses, one of the characters is shown to have both a major crest and a minor crest) hence why Joshua is "the kid" which has two eikons inbued in him at once. A relatively stable Phoenix giving him the power to heal wounds, and the violent and unkept Ifrit that only knows pure destruction.
Of course in this world, its probably expected that you only ever inherit 1 Eikon from your bloodline, Joshua obviously being an exception to the unfortunate demise of his would be soldiers (as it looks a bit like a rebellion is happening..)

Quick plot speculation:
“Joshua” Is somehow connected to both Ifrit and Phoenix, but gets consumed completely by Ifrit when faced with tragedy. (JOSHUA WAKE UP)
Our protagonist (Joshuas former personal bodyguard) is a summoner, taking on the Phoenix that Joshua abandoned. He’s using Phoenix related powers through most of the trailer, but also whips out a Titan fist: which tells me he’ll be traveling the world to unite the crystals and master Eikons (summons) of all the elements, with the ultimate goal of stopping Joshua/Ifrit, either by words or by the sword.
UPDATE: apparently in the Japanese version of the trailer, “JOSHUA WAKE UP!” is roughly “STOP, HE’S MY BROTHER!” I don’t think he means his literal brother, probably something like “STOP, HES MY FRIEND!” Unless Joshua accidentally kills the protagonists brother? It would explain why he says “I’ll kill you” with such venom. It’s a bit of a stretch, but we still only have one trailer.

We see Phoenix fighting Ifrit though. My theory is that it's kind of like Sekiro. Joshua is an important young man who has been kidnapped and we play as his shield, trying to get him back. The people that killed all of his people and the Archduke are likely who he wants revenge on imo.

Seems like a revenge story. Joshua, the young kid seems to be Phoenix. The faction he is part of seems to be attacked and it seems their goal is to eliminate Phoenix. The main character is said to be Joshua’s shield. Ifrit appears to take down Phoenix and seems to be successful in killing Joshua. Failed at protecting Joshua, our protagonist is out for revenge.
Seems more like Joshua transforms into Ifrit and then consumed by pure anger start destroying the entire Village that's why we hear a "Please Joshua stop" while Ifrit/Joshua is smashing bodies (We also hear in the Japanese Trailer Shield Saying "That's my brother" this may lead to why Shield wants revenge on Joshua)

You can see him appear to heal or use his power on Shield at 1:04, and there is a phoenix feather symbol that appears above his hand when he does so. Also, since the cover image is of Phoenix vs Ifrit, that would only make sense in the context of Joshua turning into Ifrit if Shield was the dominant of Phoenix. Which we can assume is not the case since he is only shown as having gained access to some abilities of the Eikons rather than being able to summon any like the dominants.
The main character its the soldier who is the phoenix, the outer character its Joshua shield the ifrit. Well or the main charcter get the phoenix, you can see he have its wing.

Combat reminds me of FFXV which I really liked for its flashiness and mechanics. My only problem with it was the lack of difficulty in it so if this game fixes that while still being unique it’s be perfect.

For people saying it looks like a solo game with no FF Party feel.
At 1:19 in the trailer you can see another dude next to the MC in a fighting stance basically targetting the mob that's currently being slapped.
At 1:21 you can just about see another guy standing up after being knocked down presumably on the right side edge of the screen while MC is juggling the mob in the air.
At 1:59 there's a bunch of KO/Dead people on the ground, while the MC is fighting the Dragoon. But there's one that looks exactly like the guy that flips the dead dragoon over after the fight ended. And implication is that was your "party member" when you were kicking the Dragoon's ass.
At 2:22 in the trailer while the MC is punching the shit out of that enemy, if you look to the left corner of that scene you can see a guy in a white shirt with his sword drawn facing the guy getting his ribs realigned.
They've probably just kept it focused purely on the MC while they work on party combat AI. There's a lot of camera play involved to obscure other characters in the scene.
It looks like everything they showed was from the beginning of the game so I even suspected you ride solo for a small while before the whole story takes off. It would really shock me if they removed a party system to be honest.
In addition to that, I'd say that even if there are no parties it's not a problem. Games change.

It's pretty rare for summons to have an actual, direct role in Final Fantasy; most of the time they're just kinda there in the background. The player can use see them or not at their leisure. That'll be interesting to see these Eikons and the role they play in the story; I like that name by the way

The quality of FF games have been inversely correlated to how pretty the launch trailer looks. The fact this games looks like last gen actually makes me hopeful that the budget all went to the right places. I remain cautiously optimistic.

I'm actually all for this. People have their complaints, and they have the right to have them. However, since they have Yoshi P working on it (Resurrected Ffxiv and made it one of the best ff in years) and has the guys who did the combat for dmc 5 and dragons dogma (some of the most engaging fluid combat in modern gaming) i have faith.
I like the combat of devil may cry i mean for me every game need that combat is good and cool looking 😂

Persona 5 is the only traditional turn-based JRPG that was successful enough but that was mostly because it was a PS4 exclusive -- most people who played it had never even played a JRPG before. Some had never even heard of Persona. Regardless, even that being a super successful title, it only sold 3.2 million copies. Contrast that with Final Fantasy XV, which sold 8.9 million across all platforms.
These people don't really want turn-based Final Fantasy. They just want to SAY they do.

the point is, that big franchises like FF or Dragon Quest have significant pillars which should remain and SE has torn down the old pillars and wants to sell us new ones under the same name, that's pretty bold. There is nothing against making a game which we see in the trailer, but it shouldnt be a Final Fantasy or at least something like "Lightning Returns".
Just watch the reaction to this trailer by dozens of youtubers. Allmost all of them are surprised when seeing the FF 16 logo in the end ;) this means more than one might think, beacuse you just cant recognize a Final fantasy as Main Series Final Fantasy anymore.

I'd really love otherwise. My favorite games are the ones where you feel kinda lonely. Like Zelda, Dark Souls, Shin Megami Tensei for the most part, Metroid, Castlevania and even Pokémon. All of them have that element that makes them appealing to me.

its not, from what i gather fromt eh trailer, its a solo game no party(maybe a helper you cant control at sometimes) and it seems like that little boy is either killed or taken hostage and when the main character is young (the first one that said ill kill you) and he grows old looking for revenge for his master (the second dude at the end that says "no matter how long it takes")
they are both the same guy, no room for party members that you can control in this game, you MIGHT have companions tho

I was imagining how close they would look to Bartz from Final Fantasy V if he was brought to a modern graphics game. However, I never really looked at Final Fantasy Dissidia and such and I guess you are probably pulling this similarity from there.
@@sigurdtheblue I’m not making a literal comparison. Just reminds me of that type of character, body type, and clothing style. The shot of Clive with the Chocobo reminded me of Bartz in spirit-considering that white Chocobo seems to be his personal mount and friend.

Ever since they decided to switch from Turn-Based play, seeing new FF stuff is like seeing the Ex you never got over in the arms of another 😥
I'm gonna be honest and say I would not have gotten into final fantasy if it wasnt for 15 fighting style. I do love the old turn based but I just dont think that they can use it now since it would limit the scenes their trying to create, idk if you played 15 but imagine the fight with Titan or Leviathan if it was turn based. I feel like it would have limited what they did with it
@@nairod0 That's admirable since FFXV had an awful combat system, but I get what you're saying and I agree, turn based is outdated. It can only look good in games like Persona with amazing styled visuals.

So many unfortunate souls blind to FFXIV's existence. "I've wanted a new medieval one for so long!!!" It's been here. It's been phenomenal. You just didn't play it.

The worst point of all this it's compare to FFXV when it clearly screams FFXIV vibes.
In all fairness, many of us who don't mention FFXIV often aren't into MMOs. I acknowledge that FFXIV is the best final fantasy game to have been release in the last decade or more, but I can't for the life of me enjoy MMOs. So I've still been left waiting for a classic fantasy style FF game for a long time.
I'm sure its great. And I do really want to experience the story. But I don't have 500 hours to play an MMO and find clans and such to play with. My work schedule is full time and mostly random. Nor do I enjoy endless grind. What I want is a non MMO with that kind of story. Which is hopefully what this is. FFS i'd buy a version of FFXIV that was singleplayer and cut out most of the grind. Theres too much going on to jump into it at this point.
@@denzelvilliers i mean, I used to play 14 and even back then I always wanted to see what they could do with it in a classic game that's not service based. Sadly life won't allow me to dive into an mmo right now so I'm extremely excited to see what 14's talented devs can do outside of the constraints of its genre

played those this summer. I fucking adore those games. All three of them are masterclasses, even VIII thats a little bit more divisive.
@@necroplastful Nicee. I beat FF7 like 6 times haha but I never got to beat FF8 or 9 because the discs were messed up when I was a kid. And when my brother borrowed FF9 from a friend I was playing a bunch of other games at the time. It kinda bugs me out that I never got to get through both FF8 or FF9. But eventually I will. I'm wondering if they're gonna be as close to me as FF7 was. With FF8 I would always get to the part right before the second disc and then I couldn't go on because I couldn't get the 2nd disc to work lmao. I played FF10 for the first time a few years ago but never got to finish it cuz I ended up getting evicted by this narcissist I was living with at the time lol

Not just FFT, the setting has a lot of Ivalice Alliance in it; the graphics and not-British remind me of FFXII and the young boy Joshua, who is apparently the son of a Duke, is pretty obviously a Vagrant Story reference.
Unfortunately, the music doesn't seem to have the FFT vibe at all. Moreover, this one sounds rather underwhelming, which is surprising - given the Final Fantasy legacy...
