    6:22 The position of the blade can be adjusted. There are 4 bolts you can loosen, 2 in front and 2 at the back. I suggest only loosening the 2 at the back (slightly) and adjusting the position until it's aligned with the mitre tracks.
    The fence can also be adjusted to always be parallel with the blade by adjusting the tension at the far end of the fence. I've also found that pulling the fence towards you while adjusting it to your desired position, helps in keeping the fence parallel.

      Hi Hagen,
      The 2 bolts in the back you mention.... are those the ones in the plastic bracket or the 2 bolts in the aluminium bracket ?
      The plastic brackets are the pivitoting point... so i gues the bolts in the aluminium bracket... right ?
      Thanks and greetings from Holland

    I recently purchased this saw. So far so good. Out of the box, it was really close to perfect. Blade was set right on 90 degrees and the scale for the fence was pretty close to 0 when snug up against the blade. Miter was about ½ a degree out when the rubber blocks were snugged up to the track and your tape trick got it really close… my the things you can do with duct tape! Happy with the cuts and it does ok with most woods here in Australia except the hardest of the gums…with those sometimes it’s best to do a scoring cut. One thing you did not mention on the review, this is unique in this category…. The ACME screw to lift the blade. I checked the Bosch, Dewalt, Makita, and Hitachi and all had a standard threaded screw which over time is a single point of failure, NOT with this saw…. The buttressed threads will likely last longer than I will! Your review was great helped me make a good cost effective decision. Only one minor challenge, there was a package deal including the stand and a free reciprocating saw…. At a discounted price… and they were largely sold out across Australia. The sliding table is unavailable until about June-July 2022. Thanks for good and thoughtful review!

    • @machineatlas
      @machineatlas  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, glad you found it helpful! In the bigger TS 254 the lift screw was actually a common point of failure (there's a video on youtube about it), so they upgraded that to a better one at some point. Seems like they have carried that over to the new TS 254 M model as well, which is great.

    As far as screw cam out, you might consider picking up some countersunk Allen flathead screws with the same thread pitch as what the Metabo came with. If you can get a grade 8 all the better. Be careful not to kill it though and strip the threads in the actual fence. You might also try removing the screws, then reinstall them counting the number of turns. That was you can tweak it a bit to try and keep the pressure even. I don’t know how long you can work with Blue Locktite, but it would be nice to put some on clean threads. Keep your in mind the Blue is removable. We used it in the shop all the time for things we wanted to disassemble at a later time. Just my 2¢ worth.

  • @insAneTunA

    It is a good review. I am looking at different table saws. Now (March 2023) there is a new competitor in the same price range, in fact it is even a little cheaper compared to Metabo. Around 325 Euro as we speak. I am talking about the skil 1340 AA The skil has an easy no tools required adjustable blade. But as I understand it the saw already comes very parallel from the factory. With a solid fence as well. And it is 2000 watt. It comes with folding legs. And the reviews that I have watched so far are very positive about the skil saw. It's functionality and the fence system is comparable with the DeWalt saw, which is good and solid. All together the skil 1340 AA seems like a good alternative, if not the better and more accurate saw. I am all for accuracy. And it is even cheaper as the other comparable saws.

    • @machineatlas
      @machineatlas  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the suggestion. That Skil saw looks like great value for money, smart idea to copy the DeWalt fence system. It does look very plastic-fantastic, so not sure how it will hold up in the long term, but for the price it seems like a good deal.

    • @insAneTunA
      @insAneTunA ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@machineatlas For height and tilt adjustment the skil has metal gears and the metabo has plastic gears. And the skil is the only machine with fine adjustment for parallelism from the saw blade, and it requires no tools. And the skil has a metal tube frame. Only the part where the blade sticks out looks a bit flimsy with the skill, but that is an easy fix. It is getting really good reviews. I like metabo, and I have several machines from them, but in this case I have chosen for the skil. Mainly because of the easy accuracy adjustment for the saw blade, and because of the more solid fence system compared to the metabo. And I liked the price, all the other brands with comparable capacity, power, and other features are more expensive.
      I Don't like the idea that I would still need a straight edge to check with every saw cut if my fence is parallel or not. The whole purpose of the fence is to make that part of the job easy.
      But your review was excellent. It covered all the important features. 👍

    I had to shim the miter gage on mine as well, might be a common issue with them. I used a piece of 120 grit sandpaper and I'm getting perfect 45 deg miters from it now. I've done a fair bit of cross cuts on it and a few rip cuts, seems to be holding up fine so far (except the table coating, seems to wear off quickly). I've had a good experience with dust collection, very little mess on the top and bottom, almost all the dust gets blow out the dust port. My biggest issue was with the miter gage not sliding well with any load on it, some dry lube does seem to help but does not solve the issue entirely. If the sliding table attachment comes back in stock anywhere I'd consider getting one for cross cuts. Overall there are some nitpicks here and there that make the impression that they were rushing the thing out of the factory, some sharp bits had to be filed off in the fence bracket to make it slide properly, a loose screw in one of the table extension rails, bevel stops needed adjustment to be exact on 90 and 45 degrees, the fence ruler marker was not zeroed to the blade. Apart from the nitpicks it's a sturdy and very capable saw. I don't work with hardwoods and the main tasks I would throw at the saw are what a DIYer home owner would throw at it (framing, cladding, shelving, etc.).

    • @machineatlas
      @machineatlas  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Valids, thanks for the info, nice to hear your experiences are very similar to mine. I'll have to tune the miter fence a little more to get perfect miters, good to know it's possible.
      The sliding table looks like a great attachment, but indeed it's not available anywhere. It's supposed to be back in stock in August according to a shop I contacted.

    Hi, I will try to explain in English and hope it will be understandable.
    You can adjust your fence perfectly. I could see that you can not put the lever completely down so your clamp in the back is too tight. Loose it until your fence will always align automatically. Now you already have repeatable setting. If it is not parallel yet then you need to adjust the angle with the screws on the top of the fence. I spent some time for adjusting but now it's perfect.
    Regarding the miter gauge: did you try to loosen the 2 screws of the guidance? I think you can have some small influence to get the perfect square and tighten it again. Would be better than tape and you could also use another longer fence profile.
    I hope I could help. I'm really satisfied with this saw because I could adjust any setting of the saw. Not to forget about the small rollers of the parallel fence. They have big influence for gliding performance and squareness to table surface.

    • @machineatlas
      @machineatlas  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mario, thanks very much for the tips. I'll try your advice with the fence to see if I can make it lock square every time, sounds like it should work.
      About the miter gauge, I've added an aluminium extrusion (3060) as a fence now, which is much better. I'll be making a new video about that one soon as I've created a 3D printed flip stop for it as well.

    • @marmic2428
      @marmic2428 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@machineatlas let me know if it worked. It always takes some time to understand the machine and all adjustment possibilities. Table saw is more complex than miter saw. But both need a lot of time for an accurate setup. But later the results will speak for themselves.

    • @machineatlas
      @machineatlas  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@marmic2428 Hi Mario, I tried your technique and it improved it a bit. It's still not perfectly parallel all the time, but it's true that if you put it too tight, then it will be less effective at 'pulling' itself parallel. Then again, if you make the handle too loose, it can start to flex at the end of the fence. So there is a sweet spot somewhere.
      Once I found the best tension, I would say it's pretty close to parallel, and good enough for most situations. Still would have preferred a system like DeWalt's, where you are always 100% sure it's accurate.

    • @marmic2428
      @marmic2428 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@machineatlas hi, cool that it worked. You are fully right. It's a ride on a blade and it takes a lot of time to find the perfect point. Mine was also not parallel, but always tha same angle to the blade. Then I made it parallel by opening the 2 screws on the top, align it perfectly and tighten again. Also takes some time.
      The Dewalt solution is out of discussion, I guess that this is the absolute benchmark and dream of everyone who would like to own a table saw. For me it was too expensive for hobby usage.

    Something to think about, there are actually 2 types of phillips screws, and they need different types of phillips screw drivers. So it you feel you are stripping a phillips screw heads, odds on is you are using the wrong driver. They are phillips (PH) AND Pozidriv (PZ)

    Posted this question in 2 separate Metabo-youtube channels without answer, so posting here as well hoping someone here can help me. Pretty happy with my ts254m apart from the t-shaped miter tracks that prevents me from making simple cross cut sleds. Is there a solution for this? E.g. replacement table, miter ”bars” or would it be possible to route a ”normal” miter tracks in the existing table? Also on the topic of fence, I feel that when locking the fence, it seems to move ever so slightly towards the blade, making the cut slightly narrower than expected?

    • @machineatlas
      @machineatlas  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You don't need special aftermarket miter bars (although useful) to create a crosscut sled. I've built my own with hardwood as miter bars. Check out the video on crosscut sleds by William Ng, that's a great way to make one, works perfectly on this Metabo too.

    • @C11ffH4ng3r
      @C11ffH4ng3r ปีที่แล้ว

      @@machineatlas Thanks for replying. The issue I have is that since this saw has T shaped miter grooves the hardwood strips that I'm using for my sled are very thin to be able to fit through the narrow part of the "T". This makes it hard to secure with screws and also easy to break. I understand that it's great if yo want to put e.g. a finger board etc. but for all different type of sleds it's harder to make them easy and good. Might have a look at the sliding table accessory hand build a custom sled that uses the sliding table but it's 1 an additional cost and 2 unsure of the accuracy in the sled for perfect cuts.

    I have had this saw for about two months.
    I plan to use it for one or two home projects and odd jobs that are not suitable for a track saw.
    I paid A$550 for a new saw including stand on special sale. (as a comparison, in 2022, six pack of beer costs A$15 - A$30 depending on brand, petrol is 1.80/l and a construction carpenter gets about A$55/hour). Could not justify the cost of paying $1k - $10k for a professional tool. Though was really close to getting the HiKoki.
    Clint Eastwood: Best saw at this price point. Motor has enough power, will rip 80mm no problem (fit a good quality blade). Accurate cuts (1 - 2 %) if you take the time to set up.
    Soft start and motor brake really good. Dust extraction ok.
    Lee Van Cleef: You get what you pay for. This saw is from the Wun Hung Lo bicycle and table saw factory. Identical accessories sold with other brands.
    Power switch in a really awkward position, not the best for safety.
    Some of the construction is solid but some is quite flimsy. The mitre gauge is a toy. The blade tilts to the right, the gauge fence is shaped for a left tilt.
    Eli Wallach: This is a job site saw much more suited to general carpentry than cabinet making. It is necessary to check and recheck the fence position. The table is cast aluminium and not perfectly flat but ok. Mitre slots not standard ? 12mm wide at top, 19mm T and will take standard Powertec 5/16" T bolts, so usable.
    My 10c worth.

      Thanks Mark, that's a very fair review of this saw. Agree with most of your points. I didn't mention it in this video, but the power button is indeed in a quite awkward position. Not great if you need to turn off the saw in a pinch.
      I think most of the downsides also apply to similar saws, so it's still a solid deal for the money.
