Fun fact: most of classical philosophers works are just reactions to each other. And it was much slower back then. Because you have to literally dictate a book, then have it manuscripted for you, then wait until your opponent in the other city-state read it, and will make his own book of "this dude is wrong and here's why". And there was no bell notifications, at least not for replies that's for sure.

I will tell you something. Last year I started to hike around the place I lived. A lot of forest, a bit swampy at some areas. I was trying to cross a river and tried to find a place I could cross, so I walked around 10-20m from it along. Turns out it was all a little swampy too, so my sandals quite went a few cm into the wet earth. At some point however I was caught in a bad place - it was worse than before, and I managed to step into a place in which half my body sunk into. I tried to get into a horizontal position to get out, and after a struggle of a few minutes I managed to get out of there.
Once I was out, I was laughing at the experience, knowing very well that later on I would look back on it as an interesting experience. I knew I still had to clean all my clothes and further annoyance was awaiting me, but I knew I would overcome that as well.
Josh's take on adversity vs convenience is truly an interesting topic because there is no easy answer to it. It's something that will concern me as a (hopefully) future game designer.

Going on his tangent when he used his morrowind experience i have something similar that i remember to this day and i smile everytime i do.
Back in the ps1 era i had final fantasy tactics. It was the first ever final fantasy i had ever played. Nay, first RPG i have ever played. The game was fun, i didn't know how to speak english at the time so i had no idea what the menus said, what the spells were and what classes and jobs and skills were.
I used to use chant on enemies because of that. But i am learning, dying and struggling. After a while i figured that "red area means damage, green area means good damage" and i am just going trough the game. I get a new equipment, i put on my characters because "big number is good" and i am not checking for status immunities, ailments, magic nor anything like that. I had a black mage with guard skills for god's sake.
Anyways, i am just brute forcing trough the game, and another thing, i am only using one save slot for everything, even when the dungeon said "hey dumbass. Use another slot. You wont be able to leave".
So there i was. I was going and going and so far i had been advancing the game on a consistent pace because well, the original fft is easy as pie. Anyways. Then i eventually reached him. Velius. And i had ramza as a ninja. Two swords, big damage number. I reached the first form and OHKO him. Good. Easy fight. Then he transformed. I had no equipment against stone. My party was not optimized.
I had a team of only 4 or 5 characters because i never thought of levelling secondary troops not anything. Hell, i didnt like agrias so i had just removed everything she had and gave it to another unit.
Cue two weeks of me, stuck in that fight. Dying over and over and over and over again because he just used break on my units and summoned cyclops to decimate my party. His demons just obliterated my party again and again. It was MISERABLE. AWFUL. HORRIBLE!
But then. One week i took the game with me when i was visiting my father and brothers. I explained it to them and we all. The 6 of us sat down and did that battle over and over. Hell, two of them didnt even like videogames and one had the new fangled xbox and there we were on the ps1 on a dinky 14'' television trying to kill Velius.
We spent the whole day trying. The entire night. We all woke up in secrecy in the middle of the night with the game on mute to try.
And eventually we did it. By sheer miracle, after mixing the party up, changin jobs, changing skills. Brute forcing what class did what and what item did what we did it. We won. Velius was down for the count.
That was the biggest win we collectively had in a game in our lives so far.
And now, i have knowledge of the game. I know the jobs. I know the routes. I know the equipments. I can kill Velius easily. But its not the same. The magic of the moment only happened once. I now see Velius as just another boss with a rather dumb AI once you figure his patterns.
But i still remember when he was the biggest pain in the ass ever. And i love the memory. So yeah. I agree with Josh 100%

Also, I'll be honest, it's really difficult keeping Josh as fourth-monitor content when it gets this complex. Sometimes he even makes it onto half of my second one.

I am so glad you brought this up. Back in the day everytime I paused my wow subscription, I always gave "not enough solo content" as a reason. I have so much to say about this but not sure I'll manage.
I hate the point some people make "if you don't like forming groups, joining guilds etc. then don't play an mmo". To me mmo's are about sharing a world not necessarily a party. It is a great thing if an mmo is good at socializing people, but same as arranged marriage, if you force the issue it will result in misery more often than not.
I also enjoyed guildwars "hub based" mmo system and I have an anecdote of a gaming moment where I felt this more than ever. It was the release of Elder Scrolls Online. I love the ES Universe and was excited to play it with a friend on release. Made myself a stealthy bow user as this was my preferred style of playing the single player elder scrolls games. When I went into the first dungeon and tried to sneak a bunch of dudes ran past me with massive 2handed weapons, smashing everything in their way. I had to wait for spawn of the dungeon mob at the end. This is were I thought that, not only do I prefer playing solo if given the option, but this game sacraficed so much of the strengths of the original titles by not really managing those moments of interaction.
I think games like elden ring/ genshin impact/ monster hunter are an interesting take on multiplayer and would be excited to see how an mmorpg could look if we go from there and slowly introduce systems like GW1 city hubs.

It's hilarious that he was doing this for the meme, but actually showed how to properly react to something and add some substance to the video as opposed to just watching someone else's video and pausing every so often to say things like "yeah, remember that guys? Remember that? haha".

Thanks a lot for all that great content you make whilst just being "you"

I promise I'm not trying to be some kind of contrarian here...
My best memories of WoW actually was doing tons of pick-up-group dungeons in Wrath of the Lich King when that feature was new. Because I was really good at it, and it was the first time I bothered with doing dungeons as a tank. I didn't want the responsibility of being the tank pre-pug, I was too shy, but now I was willing to give it a chance. The anonymity effect of being in a pug gave me more confidence.
Made lots of friends to play with after that.
I remember getting so hooked at it that me and and a friend did it non-stop for over 24 hours and had an amazing time.
There were downsides to it, like people being more rude and trollish then usual, but in general it was a great time. Never had so many people compliment me for my skills, or wanting to be friends with me before or after. I felt like a million bucks.
And then Cataclysm arrived and I quit wow.

Started playing PoE because of your twitch stream. I'm playing on ps4, is super fun. I'm probably building a terrible character cause that skill tree really is a drop the game moment, but the gameplay loop is fun as hell. Fun thing, on the ps, at least, the skill tree is very zoomed in when opened the first time . I had to manually zoom out to completely see it

It's actually funny, about the Morrowind anecdote, because I have a similar experience.
MW wasn't my first game, but my first RPG. And I've played for quite some time, enjoyed it and then came to a part in the main storyline, in which you have to go to a specific tomb (that's rare).
So, I read the quest, told me to go to that sign and turn right and continue forward. So I walked... and walked... and couldn't find that sign. So I because I ended up at the other side of the island, I decided the most sensible thing to do was to just search for the tomb. And when I eventually did and left the tomb, I walked north to look for the damn sign that cost me 4 hours.
It was a f'cking pile of stones I didn't realize was meant to be a sign.
And here's the thing about this, this is my most memorable MW story. But because of that, whenever I think about this adventure, all the other things I've done in MW come up again. How my character looked, what skills I trained, how my first encounter with an Alit went.
And how I wanted to own my own Guar. How my first thought was to double cross my questgiver in the very first Hlaalu quest and I actually got rewarded for it.
And that's why I can go back to this game. If it weren't for this miserable experience of wasting 4 hours, it would've just been a game. But instead it has become a memory.

One of my greatest memories from classic wow, is actually finishing The Wailing Caverns on the open stress test beta with a level cap of 15. Wiped 6 times on the big boss that slaps. Finished the dungeon about 15 minutes before the beta went down. But boy was it fun. Then the game released and no one wanted a player under level 20 so the challenge wasn't there anymore.
