Both "J" and "Y" can be used alternatively in his name. Basically 'Jesu' or 'Yesu' (as in Jesus) + 'das' (meaning servant or devotee). Jesudas is a Christian by birth but a towering exponent of Carnatic classical music, which is mainly Hindu devotional music. During his heydays, Jesudas faced a lot of criticism and bigotry from both Hindu and Christian groups. He endured it and never said a word. Instead, he let the divinity of his voice do the talking back. Also his cross over from Carnatic classical music to film music (what we call 'light music') was sniggered upon in those days. Again, Jesudas remained his gracious self and never responded. The audiences responded instead with their feet and wallets. What a Legend!

      1. "das" has NO EQUIVALENT in english. Its a Sanskrit Non translatable. "Das / Dasa" means somone who has WILLINGLY submitted himself to god.
      2. The NAME "Yesudas" means someone who has willingly submitted himself to "Yesu" a.k.a JESUS.
      3. Ironically "Yesudas" is NOT a practicing xtian. He is a practicing HINDU. He has given WRITTEN declaration to the temple that is he is a Hindu by choice and practice and Belief.
      4. No Hindu group EVER objected or criticized him except when he entered a temple FORBIDDEN for NON HINDUS. He ended that debate by declaring himself a Hindu.

It is one of those beautiful krithi (song composed in carnatic music) on Lord Ganesha composed by one of the trinities of Carnatic Music Muthuswami Dikshitar in the 18th century. It is based in the Raaga Hamsadhwani (infact the lyrics has the mention of the Raaga name). Towards the end when he was singing swaras (notes like sa re ga ma) that is part of what is called manodharmam ( creativity / innovation that comes to your mind on that day or moment), this particular singing of swaras is called kalpana swaram (meaning imagined notes which is not composed by the composer but still following the rules of the Raaga the song is composed) , it is usually done in various meters and speeds as you rightly observed.
Dasettan (K J Yesudas is fondly called that by his fans) is the sishya (disciple) of Chembai Vaidya natha Bhagavathar one of the legends of carnatic music. Those days carnatic music used to be sung in temples especially at Guruvayur temple. Since yesudas was born in a christian family, he was not allowed inside the premises. His guru Chembai moved the concert outside of the temple partly to sing along with his disciple and also to accomodate the crowds that used to come for KJY as he was a renowned playback singer as well.
Dasettan commissioned a docu on his Guru... It is about Carnatic music in general and his guru Chembai in particular. I will post link to that here.... Please check it out
Also i am very glad that you are one of those few channels which give importance to indian classical music as well... Please do keep it up.

    Rick and Korbin,
Yesu, or Jesu ("Yay, Sue!" or "Jay-soo") mean Jesus.
    Das means servant, devotee, follower.
Add them together, and you get a last name that declares, unashamedly and fearlessly, that you are a family of Christian converts.
Kattassery Joseph Yesudas will, on the 10th of January, celebrate his 81st Birthday.
In his 60 year career he is said to have recorded some 80,000 songs.
It is easier to list the languages he hasn't sung in. The man has even sung in Russian, for god's sake. Arabic. English. Latin!! The same with awards.

There are different rhythms for each song, where the counts on the fingers are different, and they have different names for it.. For example, this one was in 'Adi Thaalam' where you have 8 counts, starting with the whole palm (1), starting with pinky finger (2), go left with two fingers (3 and 4), whole palm (5), flip your palm back and forth (6, 7 and 8) 🙂🙂🙂

    He is king of singing...👑
    🙏🌷🙏🌷🙏🌷🙏🌷🙏🌷🙏

He is a gem of Indian classical. This is carnatic concert which all carnatic and classical artists does in India, especially this happens in Chennai as a carnatic festival every December called as Margazhi Utsav. Generally these concerts continues for 2 to 3 hrs of a single person . Which means this was a part of a session of 3 hrs may be. I have been to this concerts in live and been immersed for 2 to 3 hrs at a stretch non stop immersion.

Usually, a Carnatic Classical Music Song(Keethanam) has 3 stanzas. Usually with Two or 4 lines each. Pallavi, Anupallavi, Charanam. (I don't know whether this is the same in Hindustani).
*Pallavi* - This is the start of the song. Pallavi is sung within the structure and rules of the Ragam (here *Hamsadwani* ) used and is improvised and sung alteast 3 different ways, usually with increasing complexity.
Here the pallavi is _Vatapi_ _Ganapatim_ _Bhaje_ (3), _Varanasyam_ _varapradam_ _sri_ .
*Anupallavi* - Generally, there is only one Anupallavi. This may go to a higher octave than pallavi and may have different tempo and adds beauty to the song.
*Charanam* - This is the last set and the improv done for pallavi is repeated here, so you have to remember what you did before. There can be more than one charanam for a song. Pallavi is sung after every charanam.
Between the Charanam, you usually do a lot of Improv, here it was between the Vocal and Violin in this case. You improv for one measure( 8 beat cycle here, adi talam) and the 2nd person repeated it.

And by the way, Yesudas is a more accomplished playback singer than a classical vocalist, although as he has aged, he is more into classical concerts. You need to listen to Hari Muraleeravam song form Aaram Thamburan(Malayalam film) or Rama japa from Bharatham( Malayalam film) or even the song Pinneyum Pinneyum (from the Mal film Krishngudiyil Oru Pranaya Kaalathu)...a very versatile singer.

Really Let me ask you something. Why would someone start a you tube channel ? Most probably for income.See following Jaby Lots of foreigners started reacting to our content .
As they are foreigners we go through their videos .See they just over react to every video...
I am from Kerala and in some videos of Kerala they just show keen interest on Fahadh Fassil and Mohanlal..They are actors from Kerala.
How can one be a fan of somebody new to them .Just think.Brad Pitt and Robert Downey Jr.have lots of fans in India right??..See The best example is of SRK .THEY Jump and shake their whole body like cheering for a team in a football match..They know that SRK is a t
lented and one of the most loved actors in India..So they make us believe that they love SRK whom millions of Indians are fans of.
At the beginning even I got excited on seeing these guys.
They are Americans .Americans unlike other groups of people have a superiority complex ...
We dont know what their actual mindsets about Indians are .
I was sad to see many Indians group up with these foreigners to insult and mock them .This happened in one of their videos in which they reacted to MEAN COMMENTS as they titled it.
So I request you to pls dont believe these foreign weirdos....
