The fuel dispenser/gun has a small return pipe which takes the excess fuel back to the bunk, but you are still charged for it. Next time when you visit check this in the dispenser gun, there is small pipe inside the gun for return supply 2. Fuel tank in your car needs air flow, so there is a breather or overflow pipe which will send the extra fuel out of car. manufactures design it this way because without this when you are driving your car's fuel pump pumps fuel from tank to engine which will start creating vacuum in the tank and then fuel stop flowing from tank to engine. Car will stop and you have to manually pump the fuel into the supply line from near the fuel filter When you do top up like this at max you get 0.5 to 1 ltr extra which will not give much more additional mileage, but definitely money is wasted - From Xuv500 owner
