    If you’re not racing, a weekend warrior, then this bike is for you. It’s what most bike fitters would suggest to most of their clients, an endurance oriented kind of bike.

    i went with the Caledonia to save some money and then added zipp 303 firecrest rims ... i find its fast smooth easy to handle other than the seat its comfy for long rides ... 100-180km rides for me ... i did splurge on the rival etap :) works great

I was on the fence about if I wanted to spend the money on this bike or not but you have me convinced! Thank you for all of this great information. You are FIERCE! Are you sponsored? If not, you should be!!! (However, I like unbiased reviews...so on one hand, I hope you aren't! :) HAHA) Have an awesome day, Hiker biker! You are awesome!!!! :)

      @@hikerbikeromar im sorry buddy, im off grid. No worries ill figure something out. One thing i did notice, this bike is not for beginners. Would be dangerous. You have to keep a tight reign on it or you could run right through a stop light and get creamed. I would not suggest this bike to anyone without a few years under their belt. Just a heads up

  • @zoso73

    1:35. I have had this bike for 2 years. It is VERY racy. Honestly is not the most compliant carbon frame you will find. But is is quite aero, responsive (because of its stiffiness) and it corners really well. 3:17 True. This bike can handle perfect road, rough road, light gravel. I would avoid it for climbing mountains of its weight. (Rollers, it's fine.)

    Great video, thanks for sharing! I got a good deal on the rival version. Would you spend extra 1700ish USD to upgrade to the Reserve wheels? I've never ridden carbon wheels so not sure if it's worth the upgrade

    • @hikerbikeromar
      @hikerbikeromar  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Congrats on the purchase! I really love the Caledonia, and for the right price, it’s definitely an irresistible option.
      I’d first consider what kind of riding you’ll be doing before upgrading the wheels. If you plan to do both light gravel and smooth road equally, I’d just keep the stock wheels. But if you end up doing mostly just smooth road riding, upgrading to the reserve wheels will be awesome. They are among my favorite wheels I have ever used. They will accelerate faster and make the bike feel more racy, and will most likely be lighter depending on the depth you go with.
      But for now, I’d just stick with the stock wheels and wait until you can find a good deal on the Reserve’s. That’s just my opinion!
      Oh and btw, I would definitely upgrade the tires if you plan on doing mostly smooth road riding! I did a video where I upgraded the stock tires on a trek Domane, and the results were insane. Feel free to check it out!

    • @simonramirezgarces
      @simonramirezgarces ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, thanks for the response! I will probably keep the stock wheels and see how it goes, they should be pretty good, I'll wait for a deal on the reserve 40-44. I'll check out your video about tires. I've been using Contiental 4 seasons for ages and I love'em, the performance is not bad and I love the puncture resistance. Any thought on those compared with the 5000? Thanks again!@@hikerbikeromar

    • @hikerbikeromar
      @hikerbikeromar  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @simonramirezgarces I actually haven’t used the 4 seasons, but I imagine they are great. I’d probably just switch to the 5000’s when it comes time to swap them out due to age. I think your plan is great!

    Hey buddy, great review!!
    Would you share frame size and height please and overall how is the fitting comparison from your S to Caledonia?

    • @hikerbikeromar
      @hikerbikeromar  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey man, thanks for watching! Frame size was a 56, and the fit is near identical to my S-Series. I cannot really tell the difference fit wise. It's a bit more upright and comfortable than pure race bikes, but not as upright as something like a Trek Domane. For me, it's a good compromise between feeling aero/aggressive and comfort. Hope this helps!

  • @brittle1
    @brittle1 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    except Jumbo Visma rode the Soloist this year at Paris-Roubaix. It's more aero and lighter than the Caledonia. But WVA paid the price with his flat at the end :')

  • @johnyoon5399
    @johnyoon5399 ปีที่แล้ว

    Curious about your thoughts on the Specialized Aethos. It's definitely racier than the Caledonia but I actually think it's somewhat comparable. I test rode the S-Works Di2 and it's the best bike I've ever ridden. I hear the lower spec versions don't give up much to the S-Works other than weight and are in the same price range as this.

    • @hikerbikeromar
      @hikerbikeromar  ปีที่แล้ว

      Aethos is definitely awesome! They are definitely very expensive if you go with the higher end versions, but the lower end versions (which are still good) ship with lower end groupsets that end up weighing a bit more, but otherwise they are pretty much identical to their higher end counterparts.
      I think overall though, the Caledonia and Aethos are fitting two different categories. Aethos is going to be racier for sure. Caledonia will be a bit more stable, and probably just a bulkier ride. I think the Caledonia is more of an all terrain type option, whereas the Aethos is strictly tarmac racing. Both would be great though.

    • @johnyoon5399
      @johnyoon5399 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hikerbikeromar Yeah the Aethos definitely has racy geo, but it’s somewhat relaxed which gives it a more comfortable feel. It doesn’t feel like a strict race-bike to me, although it can easily be used for racing. I think it’s suitable for all-day (or close to) riding, which made me think it could be comparable to the Caledonia. But the Caledonia definitely has more all-terrain capability as you mentioned.

      @@johnyoon5399 Does the Aethos feel like the Caledonia 5 in terms of the riding position? • @hikerbikeromar
      @hikerbikeromar  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally understand! They are both awesome bikes. Personally I’d go for the Soloist, because it is more affordable and the Caledonia is due for a re-design most likely next year. I think the Caledonia 5 is wildly overpriced personally. It’s hard to justify unless you find a great deal on it. But the Soloist can also be ridden off road, so I think it’s the better option. Also depends on what kind of geometry you like, of course!
