Mainly because they closed down the main mail centres as distribution hubs like King Edward, WDO and Whitechapel (Where I worked) A shame as there was no need for that, the mail rail system worked so well for many years.

It was still like that at the sorting office when I worked for Royal Mail in 1986/7. This brings back memories. Most posties couldn’t wait to get out of the sorting office and onto walks delivering the mail.

They are short staffed so they are delivering to houses & flats & care Holmes but not the complexes. Ah Well i posted all my Christmas cards today. They should arrive by christmas. Hopefully i will receive my mail by christmas. Just saying.
Royal Mail have a really bad attitude delivering Amazon products cos they're so used to just carrying envelopes. I don't put up with any of their cheek at the door. Bstrds. IF YOU DON'T LIKE DELIVERING AMAZON PRODUCTS PISS OFF.💣⚰️
Why go to mount pleasant sorting office when she was at Saint Pauls the mail from that box went to KEB EC office i should know I opened that box hundreds of times during the 80’s & 90’s 😊😊
When children’s TV was educational. Without shouting presenters and self obsessed Instagram narcissists.
I worked at the KEB LONDON. LOVED being a postman in the city late 1988/89.
Well done
Getting rid of the Mail rail was a mistake..that many more Van's on the road now!

Ahhh before privatisation and email.
Loved Magpie when I was a kid any chance of a full episode?
I worked at Royal Mail just a few years ago while at university. Nothing much as changed in terms of the sorting process, exactly the same.

I drove one of those a few times, then a Morris Marina..... and the flees you got off the bags...

Not really, they wouldn't have though that 40 years later we'd make that whole system redundant and be able to send mail electronically !

The mail train sounds a great idea. Why get rid of it? I know they still have freight trains, but far fewer of them now.
Who still thinks computerisation and privatisation don’t destroy jobs?
