    Hey man, your a vw freak through and through, I did a 1680 with same pistons , 69 mm crank, counterweighted, lots of valve and head work 1.25:1 rockers and dropped 110 hp to the back wheels on the dyno at work. I run a Baja with 3x3 arms and a bus trans. I used that engine as a base and built a turbo for it. I used a 750 4barrel on it and jammed 15 lbs of boost at it, yee ha, I staked the ring lands, just put it all back together with forged pistons and gapless ring , been watching you videos, looking for secrets as I just ordered a bunch of goodies for my upcoming 2276. I like what your doing , you crack me up.....VW POWER!! I'll send you some pics or look me up on utube ,I have over 100 vids Mark Russell

    I run 36 dells on a 1955cc motor. 30 chokes, 130 mains and 60 idles ( may swap back to 55s). They are a very good carb.
    On AA performance stuff, I have flow benched a set of AA 40mm heads and stock they are not good at low lift. If you reshape the chambers and do a valve job then you can make them work really well, it just takes a bit of time. Thanks for posting.

    EZ Gz if u use those 88mm thick walls and cut aa heads 90.2 what size engine is that? im in this same situation got a really nice as41 short block low miles thinking of using the 88mm and aa big valve heads . instead of opening up the engine I also have another case that s open for 90.2 set of 041 heads jugs and pistons . no bottom end need a crank cam lifters etc.

    • @TheEZGZ
      @TheEZGZ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      69 crank + 88 jugs = 1679
      I think you ment 90.5 ?
      Why wouldn't you just get the case cut along with the heads and build a nice 1776 69 X 90..5
      Use it with a Engel 100 cam and dual carbs (or not)
      Will run better than what your describing and last longer.

    Hi @TheEZGZ! Already learned a lot from watching your videos! What's your idea on the thin bottom section of the 88s? Could this be a durability issue in the end after some time? I'm hestitating for a new build (where I don't want to have the case bored) to use either these or the 87 ones for a 1641 ... What would you advise?

    • @TheEZGZ
      @TheEZGZ 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you use the 88s you will have to increase the bore in the head to 90.5. So in my opinion you are better off boring the case and head and make it a 1776. This combination should last as long as a stock 1600. In my opinion for the little bit you gain you are better off building a stock 1600 with that new Engle 90 cam and the small dual 40 kadrons with 1 3/8 header.
      Engle W90 Type 1 Camshaft (Cheater Cam), 1.1 or 1.25 Rockers is designed for 1.1 or 1.25 rockers, and it's specs are .295" Cam Lift, .325" Valve Lift (1.1 Rockers), 265 degrees of advertised duration, and 224 degrees of duration at .050", on a 107 Lobe Center.
      This is an excellent low-end cam for you guys on a tight budget. It will work with the stock carburetor, a centermount 2bbl (progressive, or dual 1bbls. Yes you can also use dual 2bbls!
      This cam works great even with stock heads, but as headwork is increased it's performance will too! Expect a powerband of idle to 5000 RPMs
      This cam is great because you can use HD Single Valve springs and Bolt On Rocker Shafts, but a lot of guys run it with stock valve springs and stock rockers too! Use a compression ratio of 8-8.25:1.

      Where are you taking that reading from and what are the driving and outdoor air temp conditions?

    • @oimar316
      @oimar316 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheEZGZ I install it in the block off plate I live in the tropics...when normally its about 80 or 90 farenheight

    • @TheEZGZ
      @TheEZGZ 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow! That's to hot. I use a infrared digital gun and my lower block temps run around 190 Fahrenheit or around 90 C. I shoot it all around the lower block area where the oil is. I don't trust electric automotive gauges. Especially the VDO brand. It would be nice if you had some kind of thermometer that you could stick down the dipstick tube. If you have been running these high oil temps during normal driving all the time you would have a lot more problems I'm thinking. I'm really interested to what you find out.

      My dad is just wanting to use it on his dual port 1600. Highway use on his 69 bug. Everybody we talk to say it's not for street use. What's your opinion on that? Thanks for getting back to me. My dad and I love watching your videos.

    • @TheEZGZ
      @TheEZGZ 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It worked just great with dual carbs and the FK7 cam. If your running a stock dual port with Pic 34 carb you would be happier with the vacum advance dizzy. The $29 dizzy will work but probably have the off idle bog. Some folks put down the 009 but I have been running them on the street and offroad for many years and they seem to get the job done for me. Those guys on the Samba will find something to complain about no matter what ?????? Thats why I don't bother trying to argue with them. I don't go by what other people say. I just do it and post my results.

      +TheEZGZ was really confused it would run but wouldn't rev at all untill like 2 seconds later and it would rev then go back to a crappy idle... burned up a starter trying to figure it out.... your making me want to try a 1679 or what ever size your making. i have a stock 1600 im rebuilding it has nicks in the head and on top of the cylinders of 1 and 3 like something was in there but nothing on the valves. if you have any input itd be great if you can.

      +alphahr I bought those heads due to the low price. 145ea + 30 to open them up. I have two other engines they will fit. This was a mystery engine that came in the Baja and I couldn't resist a look inside and it was running poorly. So those pistons solved the issue and didn't even know they made that size. It will be interesting. Thanks for your interest. Stay tuned
