Hi Peter. Know exactly how you feel. Here on the west coast of British Columbia we can go weeks without sun during the winter. A lot of herons here too. They can be hard subjects - very skittish. Cheers.

nice video, even though as an Austrian I don't understand everything you say. Even if you don't have enough light, I find the location very atmospheric!
    thank you for sharing.

Great video Peter. When I go out and the weather is bad I try to think about how I can get something different from usual. Well done 👍

Hi Richard, thanks for the feedback. The mindset changes everything, and you will often get home something unexpected and capture something great. I didn't expect to get a shot of the heron with the fish. If I didn't go, I would have missef it altogether. Keep shooting.

@@peterbredahldam Well said Peter. If you don’t go out you get nothing! When the weather is bad I often try slow shutter speed birds in flight👍

Great tip. Depending on how close the birds are it might work and give kind of a panning effect. I will try it out :-)

    My goodness, that camera!
I was at Perth Zoo. Bloke next to me opened fire with a machine gun. Or a D4.

Yes, the DSLRs sounds great and impressive, but I also enjoy the silence of mirrorless. Much easier to go unnoticed. However, for video, a total silent shutter doesn't work as well. :-)

@@peterbredahldam I'd not describe it that way. I was usually a Canon EOS 6D in quiet mode at the time.
I don't usually has my mirrorless cameras silent, they all have unwelcome limitations with electronic shutter.
A lot of TH-camrs use fake shutter sounds, I find that I particularly annoying.

Ohh ok. It is the actual sound from the D810, not in quiet mode, as it slows down the frame rate a but. @@oneeyedphotographer
