This is a great book. My parents were born in the North, my DNA reveals 21 % Scandinavian heritage. The way Brian mixes history with examining ( among much more )the prejudices against those from the north that still exist is unique.Fortunately ( because I escaped the English disease of a class system ) I have lived all my life in NZ, but through parents and relatives been keenly aware of my Yorkshire roots.
In his quiet way Brian stands up for Northern pride.
    Well done.

York is seen as an anomaly- a wealthy cathedral city with a very safe Labour majority - the Conservatives and Liberals are nowhere - student power maybe ?
Two big universities but the outer suburbs area is solid Conversative - who knows ?
