    How do I turn off the maintenance icon?

    • @TheSweetCyclists
      @TheSweetCyclists  4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Here are the instructions (it's on the last page of manual above the night mode section):
      [1] Hold the front button for 5 seconds until you see the 'Clear Data' screen
      [2] Release button, then pick yes/no (I believe this will clear active riding stats except odometer)
      [3] Then you'll see the "Clear Service" prompt where you want to pick "YES" to eliminate the blinking wrench icon.

    Nice job! Very clear and well-paced speaking voice and comprehensive coverage of the set-up and features! Everybody should use this as an example. And, yes, I am going to buy this simple computer and use one of the Blendr options (probably the x2.) Thanks.

    I have the Ridetime mount for the Blendr system which essentially is the flat mount like the one provided with the Elite computer. One difference though - it covers the back button making it inaccessible without removing the computer from its mount. After setup, thats no big deal, unless you need to activate night mode and the backlight. Crazy !

    One thing I have noticed is that once the computer times out, I lose the cadence and heart rate data for my last ride so I have to record that information immediately which is a little annoying. But I agree with your assessment simple affordable and easy to read if you do not want all of the other bells and whistles. Thanks! I have been trying to figure out the back light button. I found the instruction lacking and not as clear as this video.

    Great video. I just bought a new Trek bike and it has the frame install point for the sensor. Did you have the Bontrager DuoTrap S sensor installed on your bike?

    • @TheSweetCyclists
      @TheSweetCyclists  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't have a Trek bike, so I used Bontrager's separate sensors instead (www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/equipment/bike-accessories/bike-computers-gps/bike-computer-sensors-accessories/bontrager-interchange-digital-combo-sensor/p/11323/?colorCode=black). @chains4722 I purchased and installed the Trek Bontrager computer, which came with the Bluetooth Duotrap sensor as a package. From what I remember reading in their owners manual and on the internet, the computer should link with other Bluetooth sensors. I can't say for sure because I've never tried it myself, though.

    A method of calibration
    My device was off by about +.6 of a mile every14 miles. This was after setting the wheel size to 700c:45 (The actual size on the bike), I believe the device just uses a look up of some sort to feed actual MM wheel size to the mileage computer based on the 700c:45.
    This was not close enough for me :) So to get around this I use the custom wheel size entry to set a smaller size wheel in mm. A smaller size reduces the mileage that is computed.
    This last ride was about 14 miles and now I am about -.2 rather than +.6.
    Started: 700cx45 = 2242mm
    Last: custom = 2155 mm
    This probably affects your speed computation as well, just not as noticeable?

    • @TheSweetCyclists
      @TheSweetCyclists  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's interesting. Did you try to actually measure the wheel circumference using a tape measure or string? Maybe your tires have some slight variation that is adding to the offset. I believe the wheel size is only used for speed / distance if you use a speed sensor otherwise the GPS data is used for both.

      @TheSweetCyclists  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. We don't have an Apple watch to confirm, but based on other people's comments on forums you might need another app to broadcast the HR data to the bike computer. The Bontrager and nearly any other GPS computer can use a variety of bike sensors - you don't have to buy a Bontrager specific one.

    • @TheSweetCyclists
      @TheSweetCyclists  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are two setup menus - "primary setup" (language / bike type / time format / time / display units / weight / age / gender / wheel circumference) and what Bontrager calls "advanced setup" (sensor pairing / light pairing / display configuration). It's a single press on the rear button to enter primary setup, and a 5 second press to enter advanced setup - holding the rear button exits out of either menu.

    11:45 so it does have a backlight, but what if you just leave it on for both day and night? I have the Ridteime (not the Elite model) and like it but I'm buying another bike and would kinda like to have a way to see it at night as I do lots of night riding..I'm thinking maybe there is some little LED light I could find on Amazon which would do the job. Too bad you didn't show it backlight in the dark.

    • @TheSweetCyclists
      @TheSweetCyclists  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      To clarify, it's a manual backlight that only stays on for 5 seconds when "night mode" is active and a button is pressed. The light doesn't stay on the entire time as that would drain the battery. There are other cycling computers with auto back lights based on light sensors or time zones that are better suited for nighttime riding (see the Bryton Rider computers for example).

    • @zzubuzz
      @zzubuzz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheSweetCyclists Good answer although I was hoping it would stay on when it senses darkness. I just got done minutes ago installing the Duotrap S, made sure the sensors are correct and also syncing my 2 Bont. lights, it did all of that. But it is perhaps better we don't drain the battery, BUT..I will scour Amazon for some kind of tiny LED light I can aim at the screen. Any suggestions? Probably many "key chain" type lights would work, but I want the dash of a space ship:)

    • @TheSweetCyclists

      The computer only comes with rubber pads for the out front mount. It will only work on rounds handle unfortunately. However, unless you have one-piece aero bars you should still have a little round tube near the stem attachment to mount this computer. Otherwise I'd recommend getting a cycling computer with a Garmin mount (Cycplus M1 is a decent cheap $50 GPS option th-cam.com/video/nFM2n3HbIk0/w-d-xo.html) as there are a lot of Garmin mount options for aero bars.

    • @TheSweetCyclists
      @TheSweetCyclists  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. We don't have the combination to try it out, but I'm pretty sure the answer is no. The RIDEtime Elite computer itself has no bluetooth connectivity or GPS so you can't connect it to a phone or extract any data logs. The Duo Trap S will transmit the speed/cadence to your Apple Watch/computer via bluetooth so you could use that in conjunction with Strava to track your ride. You wouldn't get any power/heart rate data unless those also had the ability to connect via bluetooth to other devices. If you want higher end connectivity features, it may be worth looking at Bryton GPS computers or what Garmin/Wahoo has to offer.

  • @sierra7534
    @sierra7534 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Dumb question but you seem to be extremely helpful - I'm buying the DuoSport S for my new Trek bike and was wondering if I even need this bike computer or if there's a free iPhone app I can use to read the data? I can't really find anything online about it. Also, do you have the ability to turn your front and rear lights off with this computer? I don't want daytime running lights but would love to be able to turn on both front and rear lights with the press of a button at night.

    • @TheSweetCyclists
      @TheSweetCyclists  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure if Bontrager offers a cell phone app. Many of the cellphone apps can show you speed using GPS signal, so you don't even need a sensor. I do recommend using a bike computer instead of your phone - they are cheaper / smaller / more weather resistant on a bike. The RIDEtime Elite automatically turns the lights on/off (on as soon as you start moving - and off after a few minutes of not moving) but no explicit on/off button. I believe the higher-end Garmin computers have more ways to control and view battery status of connected lights though.

    • @TheSweetCyclists
      @TheSweetCyclists  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely. With the RIDEtime Elite you can get all the all the sensor readings, but it does not have mapping or GPS functionality. If you want mapping functions, GPS and the ability to upload to Strava or other platforms I would look at Bryton / Wahoo or Garmin computers. They have bundles that include speed / heart rate sensors with the computers.

Many of them are Bluetooth so you might be able to connect to an app + computer at same time - I would check with heart rate monitor specs.

    What do you mean by sensors?

    • @TheSweetCyclists
      @TheSweetCyclists  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can connect sensors such as a speed (for more accurate speed / distance calculations), cadence (measures the rotation speed of your crank), heart rate and power (how much power you're putting through the cranks) for additional data metrics which are useful for training or measuring your performance. The extra sensors are optional though, the built-in GPS sensor will give you speed / distance / altitude automatically.

      That's correct. The rear button is the 'confirmation' while the front button is more of a 'toggle.' So, whithout this sensor sold seperat, this pacage i buy'd is complete garbage and useless as it is? Nothing works without the sensor not included? 😡 Am new to this...

      With this style computer, there is no GPS so you have to have a speed sensor to get distance / speed readouts (note, you don't have to buy a Bontrager speed sensor.. you can use any ANT+ sensor). If you buy a GPS computer (see COOSPO / CYCPLUS for budget options) you can use those right out of the box without additional sensors.

    Hey, I suspect the device can only sync with Bontrager lights, but do you know if it can pair with other brands such as the Giant lamp?

    • @TheSweetCyclists
      @TheSweetCyclists  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You would need to check with Bontrager customer support - but I would be surprised if other lights were compatible. As far as I know, on the Bontrager RT lights work.

    Ours never paired

      Which sensors are you having trouble with? As long as the sensors are compatible (almost all modern ones should work), have a good battery and pairing mode is active you should be able to connect the sensors to the head unit.

    just watched your vid. I'm finding it hard to believe TREK replace my node2.1 with this thing. I have custom wheel size which I need for 700x26- clock, speed, cadence, time, ride time all on the display, yes then can scroll to altitude, grade. Well, you get point. I can turn my own lights on an off. I'm glad I watched this vid I was about to pick one up. again, disappointing, however I must thank you for the vid. PEACE...BLM

    • @TheSweetCyclists
      @TheSweetCyclists  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think there is a power on / off button... the computer simply goes to sleep if you stop moving for an extended period of time. If you plan on parking the bike for an extended amount of time you can remove the battery from the computer.

    That looks very complicated!

    • @TheSweetCyclists
      @TheSweetCyclists  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the two button interface is fairly complicated to use as each button is overloaded with multiple actions. If you're looking for something simple the CYCPLUS G1 is a good option (does not connect to sensors though) or the Bryton Rider GPS computers are a good option (they lack the Bontrager light connectivity).

    I think they were really high when they designed this overpriced tech.

      It seems a good product broo. Believe me bontrager is very durable always. Im using bontrager with my trek bike. Very durable. Strong.

      It's not the most affordable GPS on the market (check back in a few weeks for our review of the $50 CYCPLUS M1 GPS computer), but the RIDETime has great configurability and connectivity options. It's also probably the cheapest GPS that works with Bontrager's lights (Flare RT / Ion RT) which allows the computer to turn the on/off automatically.
