Fed raccoons for about 15 years while living in Florida. They’re clever, curious, and industrious critters. They were always very gentle with me. I was never growled at, nor threatened in any way. A few I was able to pet. I always felt very honored, as that required overcoming a mountain of instinct on their part. Thanks for posting. More folks need to get to know these wonderful animals. 😊😊🍸😊❤️
Robert,......I agree. When I first moved here I had heard some raccoon horror stories and I got the idea that the locals hated them. But I always had a soft spot for them. They were attracted to my place (from the woods) because I would put bird seed out for the birds. When they came around for that, I put extra out for them. Winter was coming on and they were hungry. Started giving them hard cat food and gradually I started to meet a lot of raccoons! I always found them to be gentle and nice. I’ve learned to move slowly around the wild ones so as not to make them feel endangered. Never had any confrontations with them or felt threatened. Sometimes I have to go out there and break up a fight but they respect me as my approach is never mean or threatening. Usually around this time one of them will show up with a few kits in tow. Haven’t seen any yet and I’m not sure it will happen this year, but it usually does. I’m hoping we’ll see some. Same with the deer. Most of the Does took off for what I imagined to be birthing, but they’ve just come back and so far, no new fawns. But it is a bit unpredictable so we will wait and see. I very much want to hear that wonderful chirping sound when the kits are young. It really gets to be fun times when new life arrives. Thanks for subscribing. This channel is pretty much exclusively about the experience of living way out in the country and the kinds of experiences we have with the wild creatures. I’ve been following the deer and raccoons very closely, especially the last couple of years. I’ve gotten a beautiful familiarity with them and I’m able to observe and film them at a very close range because basic trust has been established. There should be lots more interesting videos coming. 🌿🦌🌲🌲🦝🦝🦝🌲🌲🌿🌝
u get experience this anywhere in canada they are everywhere. like u said they growl at each other over food or mom has babies, but are gentle nice respectful... mama will bring kits if youve been kind d@@soarornor
@@davidchandler6885 I’m kind of bummed out this year. Something has happened to the raccoons. There are only a few left. We had a high of 13 for the peak when everyone was having babies. Now we are down to just one or two and no babies at all this year. I don’t know if they scattered to other territory or are laying low because they’re sensing danger, or if a predator figured out their path. Either way I’m really unhappy about it. This is normally a really joyful time with them. Usually the new kits are out there chirping. Not this year unfortunately. On the plus side the deer are doing really good. Five new fawns!
@DodgeRaccoon It is weird that a lot of people dislike them. I absolutely love them and am utterly fascinated by them. I’ve never had any problems. I was just bemoaning the scattering of almost all that had been visiting over the years. There are one or two left. Tonight I was completely surprised by one of them showing up with two kits. Couldn’t believe it. I wasn’t thinking that anyone currently showing up was pregnant. So, two new kits that are very vocal showing up with Mother on a full moon night. Doesn’t get much better! I’m just about to put the video up. 🦝🌿🌛
@@wekebu Yeah, I love that sound. Unfortunately, no kits this year. A lot of the raccoons have dispersed for some reason. This was definitely the height of their presence. A real banner year.
Yeah, I love them. My situation is a bit different. These are not city raccoons. I’m not sure if these guys have ever seen a road. They’re forest raccoons. They come straight from the forest to feed here on my deck. It started out with a bit to supplement them through the winter and just became a full time thing. It enables me to see quite a lot that would be impossible without establishing a relationship.
It all started long ago when I first moved here. I’d put birdseed out on my deck railing for the birds and a couple of raccoons would show up. Little by little I’d start adding some food just for them and now it’s like all paths lead from the forest to my deck. It’s ok. I love seeing these guys and the treat of seeing the babies up close is priceless. 🌝
Quiero uno me encantan siempre pongo bastante comida seca de gato y agua....y vienen las mama con sus babies. me gustan las auras tin-osas....lo buitres.....ardillas...las zariguellas
I’ve never had any problems with them like that. These aren’t urban raccoons. They’re country raccoons right out of the forest behind my house. I’ve known generations of these guys and yeah, they fascinate me.
Should have thought of that when you decided to move in to suburbia. And you expect them to live where? We have taken all natural habitat from them. The fact that they thrive at all is a miracle. You act as if they are malicious and just want to destroy your shit. They are seeking a safe place to have their babies away from predators. Little did they know that humans are some of the worst offenders.
You are correct. If raccoons get into an attic they will certainly make a huge mess. Which is why I cringe every time I see people online taking raccoons into their homes attempting to make pets of them! Bad idea. I fed them (outside, away from my house) for 15 years. My home had no holes where they could gain any access, and to my knowledge none ever attempted to. Of course, we didn’t have hard winters in Florida, so they weren’t compelled to seek shelter beyond their forest dens. I lived actually in town with only a narrow green belt where they resided so the term forest might be misleading. They did dig the occasional hole in my yard when chasing a juicy lizard, but that was a price I was willing to pay. They provided such entertainment for me that I considered it the admission price. That said, they’re definitely not for every one as they have every capacity to be a royal pain in the ass!😜😜🍸🤪

Beautiful and peaceful animals. My favorite species of all time, even above humans.
This is one of those "It's all fun and games until someone losses an eye"-instances.
Cutest little guys.

These creatures aren't all that adorable when they're crawling around in your attic tearing up stuff.
