Those are my step dad's favorite biscuits. When we go to Red Lobster we always order extra biscuits before we leave to take home with us. They are very addictive. That type of biscuit is called a drop biscuit and they aren't meant to be necessarily uniform in shape or size. You can use any kind of cheese you like when making the biscuits.
You can make more of a sweet biscuit and put strawberries on top to make strawberry short cake.

"Drop Biscuits" was exactly what I was going to say. They look perfect! I could practically smell them through the screen, LOL!
Other variations would be to use milk instead of water, or to use water and add one egg, or even use milk and add an egg, or even to use buttermilk--with or without an egg. My Mother would say to add a pinch of salt--but who knows how much a "pinch" is?!? --Dan

If you are near a Culver's in Florida, you should try it. It is a burger and frozen custard chain out of Wisconsin. They are gaining popularity in Florida and other southeastern states due to the many midwesterners that winter in Florida and the southeast. They are famous for their Butterburgers, Frozen Custard, and cheese curds. Over the last couple years their burgers were ranked at the top of national rankings as well as their onion rings. They also have an extensive menu of other midwestern favorites. They are also known for their "Wisconsin Nice" hospitality. I have never had bad service at a Culver's, which isn't to say I haven't had mistakes with my order (very rare), but when it has happened, they've been really nice and courteous correcting the problem.

Perfection! Brava Mrs. H! Those are *exactly* how drop biscuits should look. I know I sent you the basic recipe from an old Joy of Cooking, so you can easily learn to make them from scratch, especially now that you've had a great example. Oh, did you see the steam rising from the one you ate, after you broke it open? 😃 It showed up really well on camera. Wonderful.
You can add all sorts of savory additions to the dough, like cracked pepper, more cheeses or herbs, diced peppers - all sorts of things. If you add a few tablespoons of sugar instead, you have the best base for strawberry shortcake there is. Slice them horizontally in half, on the bottom half generously spoon on sliced, sugared strawberries (slightly smooshed and left to sit a bit so they get very juicy), top with a big dollop of whipped cream. Slap the top biscuit half on top, layer more strawberries and whipped cream, and devour. This is what fresh strawberries were *made* for. Or even canned frozen ones in a pinch. 😁 If Laurence did a video about strawberry shortcake, he'd say UK Trifle or Eton Mess ain't got nothing on Strawberry Shortcake!
(Some people make them with actual white cake, but I've tried eating one, and find that way too soggy. The cake sort of melts to goo. And grocery stores here sell little sponge cake rounds - same kind of cake as in Twinkies - with a neat little depression for the strawberries, which are a An Abomination Unto Nuggan, as Sir Terry Pratchett would have said. A travesty.)

Congrats, you just made your first drop biscuits. Drop biscuits just get a little more liquid (milk, buttermilk, etc.) than regular biscuits, then are spooned onto the baking sheet. You might try giving the baking sheet a half turn halfway through the baking time, just to even up browning front to back on the sheet. I tried the Red Lobster biscuit mix once, I was surprised how good they were.

At Red Lobster, they bring you the biscuits to the table first to fill you up, and distract you from how small their shrimp and lobsters are. LOL 😂

Glad you liked them. They made me hungry.

I usually pop them back in the oven for 1-2min with the butter so it soaks into the top and gets them golden brown deliciousness

When you guys had biscuits and gravy, THIS would have been the texture and consistency you would have wanted to aim towards.
Crispy outside with a fluffy and warm inside

Perfect drop biscuit - yes, more sticky dough as not intended to be kneaded, rolled out and cut in shapes. More a tender texture than a flaky texture. These type of biscuits are great on top of a chicken stew 😋

I am addicted to them and I am a widow - I do wrap up half of them and freeze them (without the butter topping). What you call biscuits, we call cookies in Canada and the USA. What we call sweaters, you call jumpers.

One place to try biscuits is Church’s Chicken, which is a chicken fast food chain that’s mainly located in the southern states such as Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana & Mississippi. Their honey topped biscuits are the best.

Well now that you've had a couple of biscuits, I think that you can understand why we Americans laugh our butts off when someone calls a cookie a biscuit. If we gave you a biscuit when you asked for one you would be very upset, unless it were a Red Lobster one fresh out of the oven. 🤣🤣

    • @Mrhandfriends
      @Mrhandfriends ปีที่แล้ว +1

We dunk our biscuits in our tea/coffee at times so it might be a bit of a different experience, however I could never be upset if someone gave me an American biscuit, they are morish. . Mrs H 💕

For portion control, lots of chefs use a scoop/ice cream scoop. You can also lightly oil the spoon or scoop to release the dough batter onto the baking sheet.

Oh yum, those biscuits looked so good. I love Red Lobster biscuits. If you find a place in Florida that makes Soul Food, you have to try it. Its just the best food in my opinion. Its what I was raised on and how I cook today. Also, ask the locals where to get the best bbq. I can't wait for your reaction to brisket Mr H.

Great job Mrs H! They look perfect and yes… they are addictive lol. I would say try 4 Rivers Smokehouse for BBQ ribs and brisket while you are in Florida. Also, you just can’t beat Chick-fil-A. The lemonade is fantastic and also the frosted lemonade. Chicken sandwich( with extra pickles lol) and the chicken nuggets are great! ( get the regular ones, not the grilled 😂)The milkshakes are wonderful as well.

2:21 the absolute *_BEST_* place to go for biscuits is a Southern granny's kitchen. find yourself a granny and she'll feed you until you're ready to pop like a tick, and then she will bring even more. and the food tastes so good, you happily accept death just to get more of it. 😃 nothing in this world is finer, or more chock full of love than a granny's cooking.

I make mine from bisquik mix , I use the drop biscuit recipe on the box,, I add my shredded cheddar cheese ,garlic powder ,onion powder and sometimes mrs, dash to the mix and stir ,then add the milk, sometimes I have to use a bit extra because of the cheese,,drop onto cookie sheet, drizzle garlic butter over each one, then I add Parmesan cheese to the top of every one of them,,then crushed oregano, bake at 375f till golden brown, then I drizzle a bit more garlic butter on top,,I make my own garlic butter . I came up with this recipe when I was craving red lobster biscuits and didn’t have the money to go out to eat ,but had everything I needed in my kitchen. They taste great with the pot roast I watched u make on your channel. My daughter on the other hand doesn’t use bisquik mix,she makes hers homemade .

    MRS. H,
i know when i make biscuits i use 4 cups of all purpose flour, 1 tsp baking power, 1 tsp baking soda, 1/2 stick of butter/or Crisco shortening, roughly 1 cup of buttermilk, mix till the dough begins to tighten up, roll out into a 1/2 thick sheet, flour the top use a modified soup can to cut out biscuits(with holes punched in the top to let air escape). you can add cheddar.
