Same here. I think pachouli dulls down every scent, makes it sluggish and takes the life out of it - very lastingly, though. Somehow I always associated the smell with ungroomed men. Then I read somewhere that patchouli has a component that can also be found in men's sweat. I don't know more or if that's true at all but it makes sense for me.
Lot of craaaazy smelling patchoulis in the niche world. Some moist, some weed-y and some very chocolatey. I'm more of a fan of the designer versions like the patch used in Guerlain or Mugler's (older) creations. Luckily, it seems like that note isn't disappearing too quickly like so many other more expensive materials.
I used to hate jimmy choo by jimmy choo now I love it! The patchouli adds a spiciness and sweet gourmet notes compliment each other so well! The flower bomb smells amazing!!

It was actually used frequently centuries ago.... they used to use patchouli to mask their B.O. which is why it’s not a “modern scent”. Indonesia is also one among other countries where you can find Patchouli plants.....

It came in a red and silver metal canister. I tried Scent Matchers. They said they had it, but it wasn’t even close to the same smell. Any ideas?

Patchouli was literally everywhere in the Seventies and it is THE hippie smell. So nothing "only contemporary" about it. I personally don't like it but that's another story, only it is not a new thing whatsoever.
I consider myself a Patchouli lover, but Mugler Angel legit smells like straight up $8 Auric Blends Patchouli Roll-On Perfume Oil' mixed with unwashed vagina. I returned it immediately. It cracks me up that people love this, because it smells exactly like my unwashed lady bits if I put a dab of Patchouli down there. Dirty panties scent. 🤢 All of the other ones mentioned I agree are great. ♥️

Karma, rentless and Lord of misrule from lush very pachoulish. Lord of misrule was a popular bath bomb and shower gel they now have a perfume in it.
