    excellent overview of Wright's domestic architecture. I suggest checking out the Italian architect Carlo Scarpa, whose work reflects many of Wright's interests

    Thanks for sharing this, Jocelyn. So interesting and informative. I believe Architecture is so important to our wellbeing and our sense of place and history. I only studied Frank Lloyd Wright briefly at University; and now I feel I want to discover more about this great man ✨👌🙏😊

    My ex-woodworker father has always wanted to put out a T-shirt saying, "Frank Lloyd Wright Left Leaks"; I hear you about the engineering problems in these houses.
    Thanks for doing this: I hope to see more of these little "diversions" in the future.

    I love this! Please do more! I love how you told us about the background of the house but also showed us lots of nooks and crannies, including those cool bathrooms! Also, the quote at the end made me think of a tip if you're into architecture: the Archimarathon channel, where two Australian architects (one goofy, one deadpan) travel far and wide to show people (including architects in training who join their tours) lots of architectural gems - and they explain them as well!

    So timely, my sister and brother in law are in Chicago. They are doing a Frank Lloyd wright tour. One of my favorite of his designs is in Bartlesville Oklahoma. It is his design for a skyscraper (in Oklahoma because the Phillips family funded it ). Oh and it’s so interesting that it is easy in a Frank Lloyd Wright design to spot something that he did not design. Like in Grady Gammage at ASU. There are ramps that were added later for AdA and they stick out like a sore thumb. 👍

    Nicely done Jocelyn, thank you. I didn't realize he had a house in Marion, Indiana and I grew up in Kokomo just to the West and went to Ball State to the South Lol! I'll make it a point to see this.
    Probably one of Wright's best known quotes explains why he would be difficult to work with, but why we also remember him and why his detailing was so amazing:
    "Early in life I had to choose between honest arrogance and hypocritical humility. I chose honest arrogance and have seen no occasion to change."

    • @woltersworld
      @woltersworld  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Yes, please continue. Maybe add a graphic showing how the eves are an intelligent design solution to block summer heat gain but allow winter heat gain. And/or a graphic showing the diamond in the floor plan. A few more quick examples of the repeating diamond motif in the hall lights and red gussets etc. would help people understand the extent to which he repeated these elements in this house. Lastly, at the beginning of your video, a map of the US zooming in to show the location of this house would be appreciated to orient ourselves.

    Thank you for this truly wonderful and educational video, Jocelyn. Along with the architecture of Frank Lloyd Wrighy, I've also been intrigued by Buckminster Fuller, too. Both were visionaries in their own right, but the designs by FLW are so cohesive throughout. Thanks again... I look forward to the next one...

    I’m not a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright, but House on the Rock in Cross Plains, WI was really fun to visit, but I wouldn’t recommend walking out onto the sky walk if you’re afraid of heights. My mom had a panic attack. When I went 10 years ago, there was also a nesting owl right next to the house on top of a tree, so they blocked off the window leading to the owl. That was the highlight of my visit!

    It reminds me of a lot of structures in Maui, HI with the peaked, slanted roof. Even Maui airport is very wooden. We just ha e a lot of wood in the US, very plentiful so it makes sense that many structures of his used wood.

    Wright definitely had a style. If you had filmed in some of the buildings at Florida Southern College where he designed the whole original campus and cut them in, one might not even realize it.

      It's not for everyone, you do you. That's roughly what I tell clients as an architect. This is your house you do with it what you want unless you're only going to live here a few years and sell it.

    Sorry,
    the Frank Lloyd Wright designed Marin County Civic Center is truly a dystopian counter-beauty eyesore.
    It's on par with the awful buildings in the 1970s Planet of the Apes movie, set prior to Humanity's demise.

    • @timmmahhhh
      @timmmahhhh 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I respectfully disagree, on my last trip to the area I made it a point to stop in that building and walk around a while. It does reflect his interest in using arches and round shapes which he did later in his career. Interestingly, it's the only government building he designed that was actually built. There was a lot of argument in Marin County on whether it should be done so you're not alone in your thoughts.
