Good to know. We appreciate it. Just bought another drop bear this one with a DLC coating as a edc work beater. Probably going to be purchasing a third with a premium steel because why not. Love these knives.
@@Stassa23 most definitely I can imagine not only time consuming but an easy way to just throw money away. I must say though with the stigma that's surrounding some of these supposedly "harder use" knives it is nice to know what actually measures up. Keep em coming brother
That was substantial punishment. As you suggested, not only the DLC coating, but the steel itself is off the charts. BTW, I've been following you for about 8 years but this is probably my first comment. There's still hope for me!
Very impressive. Both the DLC coating and edge retention. I’m sure they are watching and I’m sure that videos like these are the reason knife quality has gone up so much over the last several years. Thank you! 👊🏼😃
That was a good test you did and I’m impressed, DLC is tough stuff and it only needs a very thin coat if the material it’s applied to is prepped correctly and applied correctly, thanks for the test 😎
I was looking forward to your video on this one. It's a sexy DB for sure, and I'm definitely considering adding it to my Toxic Storm 20CV Drop Bear. Thanks Stassa!
Wow! Thats a very interesting video. I’ve wanted to see someone test coatings on a knife for a long time and this is cool! Love to see more of it on different coatings!
I had planned on doing 3 other knives with different coatings but I ran out of time because this one took longer than I expected but depending on how this video goes I’ll probably do the other ones as well 👍🍻🍻
My friend battoned with my 154 blackwash version, I didn't have the heart to say no while wincing the whole time... Processed a dozen or more logs, and it's STILL sharp like a factory edge without sharpening
I'll be honest, the drop bear didn't tickle my fancy. After seeing this long form video, I'm realizing how capable that S45vn model is and how well made the knife is overall 🔥
Thank you! You made me pull the trigger on this one. Getting mine today. I have a safety concern. It is not me trying to be the wise guy. I am just caring. I see you cutting that dense cardboard and pulling that knife to the inside of your legs. Be aware that there is big artery in that area. If you hit it you don't have much time left.
Well it's good to know that Kizer is properly applying the finish and also seemingly properly hardening the steel. I know that was a concern some had in the past with them, that HRC was low. It would appear that at least on their higher end knives they are doing it right if this one is an example of how they do all of them. My only complaint with my Drop bear is the crossbar lock is weak spring-wise. You can just fling it a little and it opens up.
Absolutely impressive!!! That knife was abused and ate it up. Kizer definitely nailed the blade steel HRC and the dlc! Really hope to see more dlc from Kizer.
I have a few Spiderco’s in DLC and one Benchmade in DLC and a Kershaw. All of them are super scratch resistant even when I cut metal it might look scratched but then when I clean it it always comes off. I really can’t wait to get a drop Bear tho
Thanks for the video mate, would love to see this sort of testing on a dlc kunwu, their dlc is drop dead gorgeous and I worry about carrying them because they're like black mirrors and a bad scratch would really bother me. If it's this tough, I don't need to worry!
Makes me love my standard 154cm Drop Bear even more! I really wish this had the polished dlc like the new Militaw as I'm not huge on coated blades typically but that polished dlc is gorgeous!
I have a Pro-Tech Malibu, in DLC Magnacut, and I bought that knowing how good dlc could be....and I was highly disappointed. Scratched through to the blade. I cut lots of carboard, vinyl, occasionally scrape it on some metal at work. I might need this knife.....
I've been nothing but impressed with Kizer's ability to heat treat a blade. I've used some 4v and was thoroughly surprised with how well it performed. Might have to snag one of these. Hoping for an s45vn Sheepdog 🤙🏻🤙🏻
Kizer really hit a grand slam with this one. I’ve used s45 on both a pm2 and xm18 and really like it so far. I’m going to have to grab one of these next time I can to compare. I do stone fabrication so my knives get used on a lot of cardboard, rope and other abrasive materials so the dlc might be nice.
Ok....I truly don't need a 5th Drop Bear but you are making it hard for me not to want to buy this fella!!!! I am truly impressed at the way this held up during your testing. Wish you would have spin wacked the hell out of it to see how the lock held up after all that. Absolutely freaking great video broham!!!!! Thank you as always buddy.
Dude I actually had to watch this video more than once because it is totally tormenting me. The hell with it I am buying this knife! Kizer you best take care of our buddy Stassa23 because his review definitely worked. At least on me lol.
DLC is awesome. It's great for metal/metal contact surfaces and reducing friction wear. I know a guy who got a pew Ionbond (brand name but still a DLC), back in 2009 and 15 years later, with about 5k rounds per year, it still looks almost new. Even the high wear surfaces like slide rails and barrel hood, it's like a polish, rather than worn to bare metal.
I've never handled fat carbon handles and have been strongly considering this model. How is the grip and texture? Is it slippery? I've handled smooth micarta and G10 handles as well as some chalky aluminum and titanium. Is it anything like that?
The Drop Bear is just a very versatile and great design. It still astounds me no matter how many designs they have by now. And it still astounds me that I still don't have any
I'm pretty sure Smith & Wesson uses kindergarten waterpaint. DLC is one of the top surface coatings out there. They did a great job on their heat treat here!
Same here for the lost part, the only Spyderco that the coating came off from was my first pm2 however I used it at work a to cutting anything and everything so that may have been part of the reason it came off when I used it to open that can up. My Kershaw knockout has opened up a couple cans plus a bunch of other stuff and it’s still in Tac 👌🍻🍻
Are any of your Drop Bears having lock rock? I just bought one and it has a terrible lock rock. It’s the second unit after I returned the first one due to lock rock. Very weird
i've had a lot of good experiences with Kizer knives, but one thing i didb't care for was the DLC, often felt fairly pointless with how thin it often was. nonetheless, they sent me knives for review so i used the shit outta them, nvm they;re probably find lol
Yeah I mean you can say what you want about the quality of knives made overseas but the knife industry really has become a global market. There are several China based knife companies that aren't playing around anymore. I mean they are producing knives with high end powder metals, like S45VN, and laying down heat treatment well into the 60+ HRC.
Perhaps you are unaware at exactly what DLC is. It is over 90+ HRc. It will only fail if the steel underneath fails or is scratched by Diamond grit or CBN. KnifeMaker

Now thats what I'm talking about. Miss these extensive tests including the aluminum bar stock and the copper wire etc. Thanks for sharing brother.
Yeah I know me to, I plan on doing some of the old test when the knife is a knife Built for it for sure 👍🍻🍻

I won this version of the drop bear and I am really loving it! Super impressed after watching this video!!!
That was a good test you did and I’m impressed, DLC is tough stuff and it only needs a very thin coat if the material it’s applied to is prepped correctly and applied correctly, thanks for the test 😎
Thanks so much for that testing. It shows the value and quality that KIZER puts into their knives. You Get What You Pay For and then some.
Great demonstration Stassa. It's the most thorough test that I've ever seen.
Awesome man. Loving my scout f3 in full DLC so it awesome to see it perform like that. Got a dlc padre coming too
That is amazing. No damage to the coating, and basically no damage to the blade. Outstanding. May have to pick one up after seeing that
I was looking forward to your video on this one. It's a sexy DB for sure, and I'm definitely considering adding it to my Toxic Storm 20CV Drop Bear. Thanks Stassa!
VERY impressed!! Surviving the sheet rock and tin box blew me away!

@@Stassa23 Oh man! I would have loved that! That’s exactly what I’ve been looking for, even though I know it’s hard on your knives.
That was impressive, both for the edge and the coating! I appreciate the test, looking forward to more.
Impressive. My LC200N version arrives today and am very excited to see how it handles... obviously won't be a beast like this...
I have the LC200N variant and man it's cool. Super tough steel for a stainless.
Awesome design. Appreciate the testing on this one.
My #1 recommended knife to people that just want 1 knife. Premium side or not phenomenal knife.
My friend battoned with my 154 blackwash version, I didn't have the heart to say no while wincing the whole time... Processed a dozen or more logs, and it's STILL sharp like a factory edge without sharpening
That knife is a must , can't believe it stood up to that test 🔥🔪

Have already purchased, just waiting on delivery. I think I've made a great purchase :)
Nice to see more companies putting dlc more on the market
That's a great result for DLC! NICE JOB S23!👍🍻
Same on my blur very well done on this one ...saving for a drop bear 🐻

I noticed that too on mine so I turned up the tension on the clutch lock to the tightest setting and it's much improved.
Absolutely impressive!!! That knife was abused and ate it up. Kizer definitely nailed the blade steel HRC and the dlc! Really hope to see more dlc from Kizer.

Gotta say I'm not a drop bear fan, don't like the blade shape, but it appears to be a quality build and materials. Thanks for the video.

It almost hurt to see the knife treated like this, but that was impressive!
I promise it hurt to do some of it but wow I was in shock on how well it did 🍻🍻

Great video idea. Really appreciate it man. I wonder how other companies hold up. Do you plan on doing more? Thank you!
Your still the best stassa!!! ❤ let's go.
That IS impressive, good show
Great job! Ty!

I'd love to see this test on the DLC Militaw
The coating on my qsp penguin rubbed off after just a bit of cardboard 😢
Great video! What did you use to polish it back up at the end?
How did you clean it ?

Yeah when done properly it’s an awesome coating for sure 👌🍻🍻

I use the drop bear alot 👍 Want to try a chaves but don't want a pocket shredder. THOUGHTS PLEASE 🙏
The Drop Bear is just a very versatile and great design. It still astounds me no matter how many designs they have by now. And it still astounds me that I still don't have any
Отличный обзор, спасибо 🤝💪🏻
Well I'm definitely impressed, did I mention I was impressed, there's only one thing though truly that sucks about thatknife, I don't own it yet😂
DLC is the only coated blade I'll buy, its crazy crazy tough.
I'm pretty sure Smith & Wesson uses kindergarten waterpaint. DLC is one of the top surface coatings out there.
They did a great job on their heat treat here!
No doubt 👍🍻🍻
Jimping done right finally!
I just got the nebula sheepdog I wish it was dlc.
Love a good dlc. I’ve had good luck with spyderco and kershaw
Same here for the lost part, the only Spyderco that the coating came off from was my first pm2 however I used it at work a to cutting anything and everything so that may have been part of the reason it came off when I used it to open that can up. Now this is some commitment here 🫡
Dlc has been king since the kershaw blur
🔥
Hey. Holly Moley, that's crazy Impressive!! Absolutely, GREAT video, even for you, Bro. ✨🙀
That spear shape doesn't catch my attention. I guess I'm stuck on Wharncliffes, clip points and true drop points
Alright you convinced me. I bought the OG when it first came out but build quality was poor for a Kizer. By now they should have worked it out.
i want to see the HCR
tough knife
I got me one cause of your video
Thanks for your video and testing 👏👍

Yikes I feel your pain..cringed the whole time ,but cool!
mothers metal polish take it off

KnifeMaker
aww, you didnt rope….for the edge, anyway
