I think the issue with challenges like this is that unlike Hearthstone, Balatro is actually balanced so challenges are inherently easier.
It's also based on chance. At some point, no matter the stake, you will get an insane Joker combo if you just try long enough. In HS you play against actual people who want to sweat their way out of Silver 10 with Resurrect Priest or Handbuff Paladin

i’ve been suggesting stuff like this on this channel for so long, i also have this issue in the “showing card game players hearthstone cards” videos, they always reference similar niche cards to their game and i always gotta look it up

Minus one hand might not seam like much but it's actually very significant. -1 hand doesn't just mean you get one less chance to score. It also means you get one less chance each round to scale jokers like pants, green, joker, bus, super nova, square, runner, etc.
Dna and sixth sense are also much riskier to play.
You also get one less dollar. Which adds up very quickly in the early game when you’re missing interest thresholds

you also lose a dollar a round and it's way harder to dig through your deck, which can be useful to find enhanced cards or to play straights and flushed more consistently
I think of it as a 25% debuff to your score. It's brutal.

I swear there are times where the game literally screws you over just because. Was that intentional lol? Even the console version seems to be more difficult than the mobile version sometimes.

By the way, I am fairly certain chat misled you. Larger hands can contain smaller hands. 5 of a Kind does contain a 4 of a Kind which contains a 3 of a Kind. A Full House contains a 3 of a Kind and a Two Pair which contain a Pair. So if a Joker (or other relevant effect) triggers on if a hand contains, all that works. It will still use the "highest" hand for base chips and mult, though, so if you level 3 of a Kind enough, you could potentially lose points by playing a 4 of a Kind, so something to be mindful of, but I saw a lot of moments when you had the option to play a better hand and did not.

I beat Gold stake Black deck as my first Gold steak win and it took literal DAYS AND WEEKS of attempts to finally beat! It was satisfying that it was finally beaten! I genuinely felt like this was harder to beat than Casey's Mod inscription ALL CHALLENGES. It was that frustrating!
you wrong,the hardest deck is erratic deck
you will get a deck containing random cards
as someone who did climb to gold recently a few things that i found that help are: pick riff raff if you can. getting free jokers can be good income and help if you get the right ones. it is a bit rng on what jokers you get but getting medicore stuff is still better than trying to hold out for something. dont be afraid to spend down especially on the higher levels. surviving > income. only vouchers i have found (i could be wrong) that are "must grabs" is the ones that let you play more hands and the shop discount. all other vouchers i have found become more situational. but the biggest advice i can say is dont be afraid to reset. knowing when to hop off the struggle bus will help a lot.

Lucky king should have gone in first place, because it would have had a 3/5 chance of 20 mult, which would have been multiplied by photograph, and the gold chance would have been higher too

I just beat Black deck on gold stake last week (was my final big challenge) and oh boy it's so so hard. Harder than all the 20 "Challenges". Personnally took me days for the last two stakes haha

Now try to beat the Jokerless challenge. I'm not sure what the megasweats think, but it's probably harder than Black Deck/Gold Stake.
As one of the sweats™ it's not that difficult if you know what you're doing, since the challenge also removes all the jokers from the shop pool. So you can get the things you need much easier.
Jokerless is definitely tricky, but I actually don't think it's the hardest challenge deck. It's probably like, the 4th or 5th hardest out of 20, so not all that bad. Golden Needle, Cruelty, and a few others caused me more issues.
Jokerless is straight up easier than like even Blue Stake Black Deck. White stake with no downsides and your shop mostly contains good cards.

I prefer the black deck over the red deck...Just stack jokers early and swap them out when you find better ones. Extra jokers are great

It has great potential because of the +1 joker slot, however, the -1 hand prevents you from take off early and accumulate growth
man the skip tags are killing you. the only ones that have any value are the investment (25 bones after boss blind) and maybe sometimes voucher on high score runs.

Honestly black deck gold stake challenge is pretty overstated. Definitely marginally harder than other decks but by so little its pretty much the same idea. Challenges like jokerless are more interesting.

Boring to watch, incredibly fun to play
I think it has to be experienced firsthand. I thought the same thing until I bought it, but it's extremely fun if you like Roguelikes. This is weird to say but the game perfectly captures that "oh hell yeah I'm an absolute weapon" feeling in a god run of Risk of Rain 2 or Hades, except in poker format. My friends also think it looks boring when I stream it to them on Discord, but as more and more of them have bought it they're starting to understand.

Love you Rarran but Black Deck ain't hard, it just has a massive hill in the first two or three antes, then it's easy street. It's really hard to put into perspective how much more valuable an extra joker slot over one extra hand is but consider you can buy an extra hand at base, you have to waste 10 bucks to have the chance to buy an extra joker slot.
