grateful you posted this. my new zuma came time for the first maintenance appointment at 600 miles and I couldn't get one scheduled for 3 weeks, so I ended up changing the oil myself

Thanks for the helpful video. This other video for the same Yamaha Zuma make and mines is a 2008, they said to use the 17mm for the drain bolt. But it took a 12mm socket. So they were very off and I already had the 12mm and was shopping for a 17mm and it’s a larger heavier duty socket set. The 19mm socket and wrench I found out they have at my job.
So I thought I was good to go, but I found that 12mm drain bolt nut is very hard to get off. Especially when you are doing it on the ground and don’t have a lift.
Also, it would help if ppl. posting these video can put the year of the Zuma to know which videos to watch and save time.
Oh and on the 2008 Zuma, you have to remove a cable holder bolt and that takes 10mm.
Also, one video says to pour the whole quart and another says 850ml and another says 750ml. So it varies from each person’s interpretation.

Great video. Although I believe the manual calls for automotive SAE 10W-30 oil for the transmission and not motorcycle 10W-30. You may want to double check that.

Both oils I am using follow SAE standards as indicated on the label. I don’t think that one could get a non SAE standard oil in the US.
Both oils are intended for use in motorcycles.
Manual for the Zuma calls for SAE 10w-30, 10w-40, 10w-50… oil in the engine.
I use 10w-40 as I find it is best suited for both colder and hotter temps. It is thicker than 10w-30 at high temps therefore should lubricate better.
As for the gear oil, it’s main job is to cool the gears, it does not get near as much use as a wet clutch setup would get, therefore, you can use regular oil, you can use motorcycle oil, or gear oil. That’s one of the reasons why it lasts 2x,3x more than engine oil.
I use Royal Purple SAE 10w-30 Cycle Oil as I’ve used it in all my scooters and have put 10s of thousand miles on those machines and it’s worked flawlessly.
Manual calls for SAW 10w-30 motor(engine) oil, which is what Royal Purple I’m using is.
You can use car oil if you want, both in the engine and transmission, i just like using Yamalube as I trust they make best oils for their engines and I use RP in the transmission as I’ve only had good experiences with it plus it’s one if the best oils you can get. IMO

PS. This only applies to scooters and not wet clutch application machines

I can’t remember, but it should. Just look at the manual
It’ll show you where the drain bolt is but it’s always at the bottom of
      The engine case.
Not sure about what kind of filter the new Zuma uses, my model uses a reusable one, new ones may be throw outs.
